I moved from Long Island to Charlottesville in July 2011 and left my wife in a rental house with a 12 month lease while I returned to New York to pack up and sell our house there. Needing monitoring for an existing security system in the rental house, I contacted ADT and salewoman Karen Allen visited and sold me a bill of goods that was deceptive and misleading, in my opinion. Although we had only a 12 month lease she said that the minimum would be an 18 month commitment, but that if I convinced the new renters to use ADT then that would relieve me of my extra 6 month obligation. The misleading part is that the new renters would have to make the same mistake that I did in signing a brand new 18 month commitment - a detail intentionally left out by the salesperson. What a scam. After hearing my experience, the new renters were willing to use ADT but not for more than a 12 month commitment. At first, ADT sent me a termination bill for $337.58 for an extra 12 months - not 6 months, and finally negotiated it down to a $170 penalty. I very strongly advise against using ADT. I am now in a house at Lake Monticello and have had a new system installed by Dave Dawson of Smart Security Solutions with a 12 month commitment and very high quality of service. Oh, I forgot to mention that ADT repair service is terrible. I paid $5 per month for sensor battery replacement service and when one sensor went bad, leaving the house vulnerable, the earliest repair commitment I could get was 10 days away, and the day of the appointment ADT contacted me to tell me he was running late and would have to reschedule, which could not be done for another two weeks. So we went 24 days without protection due to very poor maintenance service responses. This happened twice.

Update: Three months after paying $170 in ransom money to ADT, I was shocked to receive a refund of the penalty. Maybe Angieslist.com helped. I would still not recommend ADT, and my evaluation grades stand as is.

I like their technology. They are good and I would recommend them.

Called them crying b/c our house was robbed the night before and I was apprehensive being in the house anymore without an alarm, they said they could come over that day and put in an alarm. They were over within a few hours and installed the alarm system that day. Explained the system thoroughly.

They were able to get my service up and going right away. I haven't had many problems with my service. What problems I did have, they corrected right away. They call to verify everything is ok if the power goes out. The price is great for the service I get.

Brinks is great, especially when it comes to wiring work. They do what they promise and make you feel safe with their services. We do not regret using them. They care about customer satisfaction and we are real pleased.

I'll tell you that with Brinks, if you have a false alarm like we did at our house because of my mother in law, you better know your pass word. They are very responsive. They will send police right over to your door with no hesitation. We do feel valued by using their services though and would feel fine about giving them a thumbs up to others.

When they installed alarm, they had to schedule 2 appointments, an electrician to connect the alarm box AND the alarm installation technician to install the sensors. The electrician was fine, although there was some miscommunication regarding scheduling. The technician was prompt and polite but did not seem particularly careful or skillful in setting the sensors. Having said that though, the end result was fine. I am very pleased. The installation process though was just a little painful.

The company representative came to our home and explained everything to us, the costs, credit checks and how the process was going to work. We were surprised how fast the technician installed the system, and my wife said she was more surprised on how well the gentleman went over how the system worked. He showed us step by step, on how each control worked, and made sure we knew it all before he left. The service was outstanding.
