Rick from VirginiaRemodelings.com is the only contractor I will use from now on. When my husband and I discovered that termites had eaten through the header above our front door, we found that no one wanted to take on the job, or if they did it would cost us well above 10 grand. I was so happy to find Rick on Angie's List and when I saw so many positive reviews, I visited his website, and was quite impressed. I promptly contacted them by responding to the contact form on their website. I received a response within the hour! Rick came out to look at the damage the very next day, on a Sunday morning! His thoughtful approach to a difficult problem put us at ease, as we had been told by another contractor that our large picture windows would need to be removed, which would add several thousands to the cost. Rick reassured us that would not be necessary, and that the cost would be less than half what the other guy quoted. Rick then worked up a detailed estimate, point by point, exactly what would be done. I have never had a contractor take so much care in writing an estimate. The price quoted was so reasonable and we were so comfortable talking with him that we decided to go ahead. Rick scheduled the job to begin on a Tuesday morning, and both he and Ed, his highly skilled employee, arrived at 8:30 am as promised. They worked diligently and skillfully for full days (not rushing off to another job) in the hot July sun, and worked all week long. Rick came back on a Saturday morning because he wanted to add an extra detail to the job, which he explained later, but which I would never have noticed needed to be done- one of those hidden areas that only a man of integrity would be bothered by if it had not been done. He did not ring the doorbell to tell us about it, just set about to get it done at 7am on a Saturday morning, while we snoozed! For those of you who have an eye for detail such as myself, I couldn't be happier. Usually, mitred corners are a disappointment, with gaps open and excess caulk added to fill the spaces. Not so with these meticulous craftsmen. The joined edges are perfectly matched, mitred corners perfectly mitred, door brackets level, door hanging plumb and level, and all lines crisp and perfect. I can't believe I found someone who pays attention to these details and has the skill to accomplish it! The front of our home looks just beautiful now, whereas it looked so bad just weeks ago, with unsightly plastic bags covering the damage, and the HOA issuing a letter of notice. We could not be happier with Rick at VirginiaRemodelings.com. This is a man of integrity, skill, and someone with whom you can feel totally at ease knowing that you can speak freely without the fear of being taken advantage of. If you want to believe that there really are people with integrity out there, trust Rick, and put him to the test. You absolutely will not be disappointed. After decades of disappointment with contractors ripping us off, leaving halfway through the job, doing poor quality work, having to babysit the job, etc. my husband and I can now confidently call our man, Rick, and know that we are in excellent hands! We just moved into our new home and wanted to install a fence for our two dogs.  We contacted total of four companies including Virginia Remodeling (VR).  Rick who is the owner, promptly returned my call that evening and set up an appointment to come out on a Sat afternoon for an estimation.  Rick came out at the agreed time, measured our property line and provided me with a brochure with all of the fencing options.  Rick asked me to take my time and get back to him once we decided on what model of fencing we wanted.  
 A few days after providing Rick with our choice, Rick came back with a quote.  By far, his quote was the cheapest comparing to the other three.  I was very happy since I had gone out and priced out all of the material and the tools rental had I done it myself, and it was not far from Rick's quote.  His was also the best comparing to the other three companies. Once we agreed on the price, Rick sent us a proposal, in my opinion - this has got to be the most professional contract I have ever seen.  It was very detail oriented, outlining every aspects of the project. They range from what VR will do - ie. how deep they will dig; what they will remove; time frame; what extra fees will applied if there are any; and what the final project will look like.  It even offers to help with putting together an application for our HOA.  To sum it up, it was very professional and well put together.
 After signing the contract and placed the deposit fee, Rick ordered the material and told me when I should expect them to be delivered to my house.  A few days later, I got an email from Rick stating the material will get here a lot sooner than expected so the starting date will be a lot earlier.  The crew came out right on the date that the material was delivered and got started.  On the first day there were a crew of three, the second were two, and final day there was only one.  The quality of work was great.  There was a section that was covered with mostly bushes and shrubs, the crew cleaned that up to make sure the fence runs nice and straight. The dirt was removed and was disposed of properly, my yard did not look like a mess. 
To sum up the project, I was very happy with VR.  I was extremely impressed with Rick's professionalism and communication.  He was prompt with the responses to our inquiries and the crew was very punctual.  There were a few requirements that I was looking for - professionalism, customer service, and price.  VR met all of the requirements and we couldn't be any happier with our new beautiful fence.  I would not hesitate to vouch for VR and will be using VR for future projects.

We recently contracted with VirginiaRemodelings.com for a kitchen remodel. The whole nine yards - new cabinets, granite countertops, new kitchen floor, moved appliances, created a mud room, and new pantry, and removed 1/2 a wall to create a breakfast bar. Rick Wilson and his crew were fantastic to work with. We obtained several quotes on the project. Rick gave us the most detailed estimate of all the companies we spoke with so we felt very comfortable in contracting with him.

He was extremely helpful with ideas and recommendations and very patient. (who knew there were so many options for floor tiles and granite!) After a couple of weeks of looking at granite, Rick brought over a sample that was PERFECT! And he was nice enough not to give me grief when we realized that was the granite he suggested in the first place!

Our home is about 20 years old and there were a couple of and quot;surprisesand quot; along the way. Rick handled everything. He has an large group of different trade professionals that he calls in when needed.

Rick's crew was excellent, very respectful of our home. All of them were extremely attentive to details.

With Rick's help and ideas my kitchen seems so huge, actually the whole house seems bigger! I love my new kitchen - no wait - I LOVE my new kitchen......VirginiaRemodelings.com did an excellent job, even came in under budget! We will definitely call Rick again for other improvements and I would certainly recommend Rick and to others.

This is the second time we've used Virginia Remodeling (Rick). Both times went great. The first time we had a bunch of fence/deck/porch work done. This included replacing old boards, adding a gate, rescreening, relocating a hose bib, etc. It went so well the first time that we had Rick's team back to do some interior work on our son's closet. Again they did an excellent job.

From the initial quote through job completion Rick was very professional, very helpful and very responsive. I knew this job was going to go well when he told me that he would be there at 6pm to give me a quote and he arrived at 5.58pm.
He ensured that everything was done to a very high standard - even though this was just installing plywood flooring in an unused attic space Rick took the time to make sure everything was perfect.

Installed new fence, renovated the shed, installed slated pavers on patio and brick veneer on back steps.

Recently I bought a house in Ashburn that had a drop ceiling (acoustical tiles/grid) in the basement. It was very unattractive and in bad repair. I hired Rick to replace it with drywall. He also replaced and installed several can lights. He realized I may want to have another electrical circuit in that area and ran the wiring to an unfinished room to make it easier to access if necessary in the future. He had to box in the duct work and install new frames on 2 doors as the ceiling was slightly lower and the top would look strange. The carpentry work is excellent and looks very good. He also painted the areas that needed it towards the top of the walls.
I have not moved in yet and live too far to oversee the project. So I put a lot of trust in him and his crew. There were several skills involved in this project and Rick did an outstanding job as a general contractor. When any issues came up, he contacted me and explained them very well, and we resolved them with no difficulties. I was up there this past week to see it for myself (he had sent pictures) and am delighted with the finished look! Very glad I did it.

It went and is going fantastic. Rick has done incredible skylights. A GORGEOUS deck. He is working on a walkway. He's worked on our attic. Our house was a true fixer upper and we hired Rick to do things to it. He has been on the job, checking in, and in constant contact. At the same time we had Rick working we also had another group doing our kitchen. What a mistake! From here on out Rick is our contractor!

Rick and his team do a terrific job. They are all so friendly and I feel completely safe having them do stuff around my house while I am at work. I am using them to do a lot of things around my house that I can't do or don't have time to do. Rick's services are very affordable, and I never get the sense that I am overpaying for the work they perform. He came out and walked through my house and helped me come up with an action item list, and they have been working through the list and helping me prioritize. I intend to use this company for all my home repairs and I am so glad I tried them out. I would definitely recommend giving Rick a try if you need repairs, as his company seems to be able to do just about anything you would need.

I wanted to finish 2 rooms in my basement (most of the basement was already finished). I contacted the company and received a prompt response to set up an appointment. Rick arrived on time and talked with me at length about the project. He had several ideas about improving the project such as including closets in one of the rooms (which we had not originally planned, but it turned out great). He sent a proposal for the project in a reasonable amount of time, and it was in line with other estimates that I had received. He was also responsive to follow-up questions.
Once the work got underway, the project seemed to move along pretty well. Rick and his crew arrived when they said they would and finished when they said they would. They went above and beyond several times during the project, and Rick took personal responsibility to make sure things were done correctly and to my satisfaction. There were several curve balls that I threw at them regarding the project (for example, one of the rooms was to be a workshop with a subpanel and the rooms had some and quot;odditiesand quot; with the framing), but they handled them without issue.
With regards to cost, as I mentioned, Rick was in line with other estimates that I received, and he stuck to the contract exactly. There were no additional charges or anything unexpected.
The bottom line is that I am very happy with the overall project and experience. Rick and his team did an outstanding job, and I would definitely use them in the future.

I have had Remodel for less by Rick do many projects for me over the past few years. My first project with their company was when I had them remodel my basement. The owner, Rick Wilson, personally came out and went over all the requirements with me in person. What I remember most about his visit is when he explained to me that most contractor’s are willing to commit to an unrealistic completion date in order to get the project. He gave me a “realistic” completion time frame and explained that generally if you want quality workmanship, you need enough time to do the work. He then emailed me within a few days a detailed written estimate that itemized every step of the proposed construction process. Once I Agreed to have his company do the work, he emailed me a contract. The work was completed within the time frame that he had indicated in the contract. I was happy with every aspect of the construction process. The guys put up plastic barriers so the construction dust would not get all over the rest of the house while they were working and they were accommodating to my schedule rather than insisting on working when it was most convenient to them. If I recall correctly, I believe they worked some weekend days to accommodate the completion date and my schedule. The basement looks great ( except for a patched hole in the wall that my boyfriend did later). That reminds me, I need Rick to come back and fix that ! In addition to the basement project, Remodel for less by Rick installed my kitchen backsplash which I was very happy with. They also have done various plumbing projects for me including fixing the hot tub and replacing my garbage disposal. I am planning on selling my house this coming Spring and I intend to have Remodel for less by Rick do all the necessary work to get my house in order for the sale. I understand that Remodel for less by Rick does business now as VirginiaRemodelings.com. Regardless of the name, they are the best ! !

He is awesome. He knows what he is doing. He is responsible and accurate. I highly recommend him. He was very knowledgeable in what was new in the area of sound proofing.

They were great. They seemed reasonably priced for the stuff that they did. He seemed like and a honest guy and very straight forward. It was a good company.

We are in the process of putting our home on the market and had a punch list of things to get done ahead of time. I used Angie's list to identify prospective and quot;handymanand quot; companies and contacted several of them. One of them could not schedule a time for an estimate until several weeks in the future (and did not promptly return my calls/emails), another did not answer their phone and had no voice mail. For the company who was able to schedule an estimate in the future, I was not a fan of their $79 per hour rate.
And this is what led me to choose Remodel for less....by Rick!!!
-Rick has an automated system in place so that all emails submitted go to his cell phone as well as his email-I received an immediate acknowledgment to my initial message - this made a great first impression-He returned my original email the same evening that I sent it and we scheduled a first appointment right then and there -His hourly rate was quite reasonable -He was able to fix our kitchen faucet so that we did not have to replace it (this saved us several hundred dollars!)
-The drywall repair took 4 trips to complete and he generally arrived on time for each one-The drywall repair was thorough and the quality of work was excellent-I was very pleased with the final invoice based on the number of visits required for curing and sanding
-Rick was quite flexible with scheduling and very nice to work with-He provided estimates for several other (larger) jobs that we may pursue, depending on whether we sell the house or stay

We found Rick to be very professional and very detail oriented. He was able to do any of the things we requested and do them well. He was very reliable. Always on the job at the date and time promised. We will certainly use Rick's services again. Rick's company does remodeling of kitchens and baths, and if ever we were to do any remodeling, we would use his company's services.

Rick was very quick in responding to my emails, I got a quote and scheduled the appointment for a sunday afternoon via email. Rick arrived on time and installed the new lock (part of this project was to extract the screw that I accidentally damaged the head!). He installed bird guards over 2 bathroom vents on the second level. I thought the price was reasonable and I am happy with the work. He also gave me good advise on other projects that I am planning to do.

Excellent: Rick and company quickly responded to my email query and gave an estimate. He was very punctual for a Saturday appointment, which was very much appreciated. We do not have the skill to hang a very heavy wall decorative mirror so I sought out a professional to do the job.. Rick did an excellent job measuring and hanging this very heavy mirror securely to the wall. And, he hung the other paintings in the room in relation to the mirror -- this gave the room a more balanced look. He also affixed some hooks to hang some three dimensional art in my teen-agers room -- sounds simple but we were again unsure how to do this. Rick did an excellent job. He also fixed legs on an antique table so this table is now functional. Finally, Rick gave good advise on how to fix a cosmetic problem with floor moulding in the kitchen. We were very, very pleased with Rick's company and so happy we found him for other handyman jobs we will need in the future. Rick was punctual, professional, and knew what he was doing and the cost was economical.

Rick was responsive to my phone calls and email. He and his team put in all the parts necessary install the hood over a few days. I'm very happy with the installation.

Rick was very quick to respond by email and phone whenever I contacted him. I first contacted him on a Monday and he came out the next day to see the house and give an estimate. The work was done Thursday and finished Friday morning. The price given was a fair one and he accommodated my timeline for the project, and always acted in a professional yet friendly manner. There were some surprise issues that made the job much more difficult than expected, but these things are bound to happen during any construction/remodel project. Rick handled them very well and explained to me at each step what he and his assistant were doing and why it was necessary. The job should have been completed in just a few hours, but ended up taking most of on day plus a few hours the next morning. When it because clear that someone with more experience with a particular problem was needed, Rick called his expert and they came back in the morning to finish the job and did a really nice job. The best part is that I did not have to pay any extra even though the job took as long as it did. Rick is a hard working, and more importantly, honest handyman and I will definitely be hiring him again in the future.

I needed a quick response to an ongoing saga I had been experiencing with my master bath tile. RIck came to my aid quickly and did exactly what I needed. I'm not positive that I even paid $50 for his service but that's what I think it was. I just remember that he was very fair with the cost. It was refreshing to get a job done correctly and quickly.

Rick did a fantastic job from start to finish. The company promptly returned my call, provided a very reasonable estimate, and performed the work as stated. Very professional with an eye for attention to detail. I will definately use Rick again in the future.
