Initially this all went very well, but slowly slowly the response and showing up diminished. Generally the work which was done was done well, however, the job is not complete and the company let their staff go and is filing for bankruptcy. No one told me, they just stopped responding to my calls or e-mails. An ex employee informed me of the situation and offered to help however he could with other contractors names who might be able to complete this job. I cannot tell how the pricing went because the job was not completed and now I must hire another company. If the job had been completed by JB Contracting I would have been pleased with the cost.

We were making our house ready for sale and we had already closed on our new house. JB Contracting did the exterior work while we were moving out and they moved in to do the bathroom the morning after we moved out. In fact they were there at 7 am the next day and we still had some stuff in their way-they just moved it to the side and got started. They did a very professional job, very quickly, and were flexible to our needs as we realized that additional work had to be done, such as tearing out and replacing the vinyl flooring in the laundry room. They kept us up-to-date on costs and were finished right on time. Joe Dingman, the owner, met with us originally on doing a total house remodel with a large addition. The estimate was reasonable, but we realized that it would be too much-our house would have been way too large for the neighborhood if we went through with it. He was disappointed that we didn't hire them to do the addition, but when we called with our much smaller job, they were just as enthusiastic. We got two other bids for the siding and and for the painting. On the siding, they came in $5000 below another company and were right in line with the other contractor we spoke to. On the painting, they were right in line with one quote and the other quote was so ridiculously low that it could not have been a serious bid. Scott Maple met with us on the siding and the windows and was very knowledgeable. He understood that we were going after curb appeal, but not much more and so pointed out what he saw were the must fix areas and left the rest as nice-to-fix if you want to without the hard sales pitch. We knew the house needed a new roof as well, but also understood that we would not get the money out if we did it. So we waited and once we had a buyer lined up, we negotiated paying for half. JB Contracting gave us a roofing bid, which we passed on to the buyer at closing and he later hired them to do the job even though he had previously gotten a bid from someone recommended by his Realtor (that bid was used in the negotiation on the sales price of the house). The house looked awesome when they were done and we had three bidders on it after only a one month listing. The buyer was a bit of a pain and insisted that all of the inspectors nit-picky findings be addressed. JB Contracting came back for us and fixed those things on a one-day notice.

JB Contracting did this job in stages to accommodate our needs-they did the guest bath on a very quick turnaround because my 85 year old grandmother was coming to stay with us for 2 months. Originally, the wrong tile was ordered, and as soon as that mistake was discovered (preinstallation), the new tile was express ordered and installed without any problem. The Master bath is now the super feature in our house and something that we enjoy every day. We were very involved in the project, and left notes for when we thought things were not as we expected or called or emailed them. They never failed to call us back or let us know the answer. We changed our minds a few times in the middle of the project. When it involved a cost change, our project manager (Scott Maple) would send us an updated cost addendum for us to sign and return, and if it was simply put something x inches from the left instead of y, they just did it. The house was appraised for refinancing right after the guest bath was redone and even as the market was declining the value of the house went up by more than the cost of the bathroom remodel. One of the things I really valued was that their workers were careful with our things-they vacuumed or mopped the floors each day where they worked (dust was still a problem, but that's just part of remodeling) and kept their things out of our way when they left things overnight.

This was the fourth company I talked to, so I was up to speed on window options when I talked to Scott Maple of JB Contracting. He immediately listed all of the characteristics he thought were important in replacement windows and I agreed with them all. When he came to my house, he made initial measurements and we discussed options for the project. He recommended Alside brand windows, which I agreed upon. He wrote out a detailed job description and gave me an estimate. He gave me a discount that was being offered with a current coupon (even though I didn't have the coupon). He was polite and professional. The next week a representative from the window company came out and made precise measurements of the windows and we finalized all of the details. After the windows were ordered, I made a small change to the original contract, and Scott sent me an addendum spelling out the change. I appreciated having the entire job in writing. The window company (not JB) did the actual installation, and they were polite, neat, and punctual. Scott (from JB) was obviously in contact with them while the job was in progress. Minor questions and glitches were handled quickly, efficiently, and without any complaints. The window company sent the wrong type of sash for some of the windows (non-tempered instead of tempered) and when the mistake was discovered, new sashes were ordered immediately. My new windows are wonderful! It was really strange to see them cut huge holes in the walls where the new windows were installed, but they shored it up very nicely and fixed all the drywall and cleaned up afterwards. They never left any openings in my walls overnight. I am happy with the job and they will be the first company that I call when I want to do other major improvements to my home.

Awful!!!!!!!
Response from JB CONTRACTING
"THIS REPORT WAS ALREADY REMOVED BY ANGIE'S LIST ONCE AND THEN RE-POSTED A SECOND TIME AFTER "THE MEMBER" RE-SUBMITTED IT BECAUSE "THE MEMBER" DIDN'T GET WHAT THEY WERE AFTER. "THE MEMBER" IS OUT FOR ONE GOAL AND ONE GOAL ONLY WHICH IS TO TRY AND COMPLETELY HUMILIATE OUR COMPANY FROM AN INCIDENT THAT HAD HAPPENED MORE THAN 5 YEARS AGO IN WHICH "THE MEMBER" REFUSED TO PAY FOR WORK THAT WE PERFORMED AT "THE MEMBERS" HOME AND WHILE WE WERE UNDER A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MANAGEMENT TEAM, NOT TO MENTION A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COMPANY THAN WE CURRENTLY HAVE. AS ANYONE CAN SEE, "THE MEMBERS" COMMENTS AND RATINGS ARE COMPLETELY UNFAIR, UNJUSTIFIED, INACCURATE, AND AGAIN NOT TO MENTION MORE THAN 5 YEARS OLD. THE WHOLE ISSUE HERE IS WE PERFORMED QUALITY WORK FOR "THE MEMBER", PASSED ALL INSPECTIONS AND THEN "THE MEMBER" REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE WORK PERFORMED. "THE MEMBER" WAS TAKEN TO COURT FOR MONIES OWED AND ENDED UP SETTLING OUT OF COURT BECAUSE "THE MEMBER" KNEW SHE WAS WRONG. "THE MEMBER" ENDED UP PAYING FOR THE SERVICES RENDERED BY JB CONTRACTING AT THE TIME AND BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION "THE MEMBER" CREATED, OUR COMPANY FELT THAT IT WAS IN OUR BEST INTEREST TO PART WAYS. "THE MEMBER" THEN HIRED ANOTHER COMPANY TO FINISH THE JOB. "THE MEMBERS" REMARKS ARE SLANDER AND A REPORT LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE NOT BE PUBLISHED. WE HAVE NUMEROUS REPEAT CUSTOMERS, NEW CUSTOMERS, AND WE HAVE ALSO DONE WORK FOR MANY OF "THE MEMBERS" NEIGHBORS SINCE THEN AS WELL WITHOUT ONE COMPLAINT. OUR COMPANY HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER 14 YEARS AND HAVE GONE THROUGH MAJOR CHANGES OVER THOSE YEARS. WE HAVE GROWN FROM A 3 OR 4 PERSON COMPANY TO OVER 20+ EMPLOYEES. WE ARE A CLASS "A" LICENSED COMPANY AND DO COMPLETE HOME REMODELING PROJECTS SUCH AS WINDOWS, SIDING, DOORS, ROOFING, KITCHENS, BASEMENTS AND BATHROOMS ALL THE WAY TO HOME ADDITIONS - WE ARE NOT A HANDYMAN COMPANY AS SHE STATES. OUR COMPANY OFFERS HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS, SUPERIOR CRAFTMANSHIP AND RELIABILITY TO EACH AND EVERY HOMEOWNER. WE EXCEED ALL STANDARDS THAT ARE SET BY THE COUNTIES OR TOWNS IN WHICH WE WORK IN ORDER TO COMPLY AND PASS ALL INSPECTIONS. IF WE WERE THE COMPANY THAT "THE MEMBER" STATES WE ARE, JB CONTRACTING WOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS TODAY."
