One thing I really like about this clinic is that if you have a question for your doctor, THE DOCTOR YOU SAW is the one who calls you back. Not another member of the staff, or another random doctor. If the doctor you would like to hear from is not in that day and your question is urgent, another doctor will answer instead.
I usually see Dr Mary Hahn with my dogs and cats, but I have seen every doctor there over the years, and they are all quite knowledgeable and attentive. There is never a 'stupid' question.. they'll answer every little thing you'd ever want to know, without making you feel silly for asking.
Last time my mother decided that her dog needed to be seen like *today* it was a Thursday, Dr Hahn's day off. So we had the pleasure of meeting Northside's newest addition, Dr Katherine Holder! As usual with Northside vets, she was through, polite, and knowledgeable. She does do one thing differently, though: She did the exam and appointment on the ground! I think my mother's dog did prefer that.
At some point in every owner's pet career, they have to make the most difficult choice in the world:
Quality of life decisions. When you suspect it might be getting close to your pet's 'time to go', noone has better euthanasia counciling skills than Dr Hahn. She helps you go over your pet's quality of life; are they still eating? Enjoying themselves, their toys, ect? Do they still act happy to see you when you come home? Things like that.. she's also wonderful during the actual procedure, too, and explains exactly what she's doing when. She lets you take as much time with your quickly fading pet as you need, and has the euthanasias scheduled so nothing comes after them.
This is just a wonderful practice in general.
Unfortunately to anyone who hasn't been there before, though, they are not accepting new clients..
Unless your family or close neighbor goes there, it's very likely that you won't be able to get an appointment here.
(This is to keep their service quality up, if they had hundreds of new patients coming in, they probably wouldn't have time to be personal with their existing clients!)
When our dog was urinating blood late at night we rushed her to an emergency clinic. The emergency clinic treated her initially, but referred us to our regular vet. Our dog is not the easiest pup on the planet for anyone to handle. Dr. Fiona McClure was the vet who took over Petal's care for the UTI. We were very pleased with the care given by Dr. McClure. Petal needed to have an ultra sound and a urinalysis that required a needle be inserted into her bladder. The staff at Northside treated our dog with the utmost kindness. All members of their staff from the receptionist to the vet techs to the veterinarians themselves are kind and compassionate to both their patients and their patients' human caregivers.
Dr. Mary Hahn at Northside Veterinary Clinic has treated our pets for many years. Because we have multiple pets, we are regular visitors to the clinic. As a result we have seen all three vets, but because of our long association with Northside we have primarily used Dr. Hahn. Dr. Hahn is especially gentle with our partially feral old cat. Our cat is calm in her presence which is extraordinary. Every single pet we have ever had has liked Dr. Hahn. Because we have an affinity for difficult rescue animals, our pets are sometimes a challenge medically (seizures, cancer) and often not easy to handle. Dr. Hahn has treated our many pets through all stages of their lives. We now have a dog nearing the end of his long life. Dr. Hahn continues to provide support and good commonsense advice on how to deal with a beloved pet who is failing.
If you call with a question or a concern, you always receive a call back. All the vets at the clinic take the time to explain their diagnosis and treatment.
