Technician was professional and diligent. He quickly figured out the issue (clogged drainage and gutter issues) and cleaned out the drains while on site. He also offered some inexpensive fixes for long-term wet basement issues, that I could do myself. I really appreciated the professional and honest service.

We were having severe problems with storm water runoff eroding our back lawn, wiping out the grass (even after having the sod replaced) and leaving it an ugly muddy mess with ponding water. The solution Newborg proposed was more comprehensive and a better value than one submitted by a well-rated competing firm. The workers were very careful to protect a brick sidewalk they had to cross when bringing in their digging machine and when dirt/rock hauling. The estimator Pablo and the crew foreman Renato were very polite and communicated status and questions clearly. The crew completed their work without complaint despite bitter March wind chills. The drainage system worked as designed, but when it appeared that we needed a different type of drain cover and an additional catch basin, Newborg was very accommodating. They brought over the dome-type drain covers at no additional cost, and added the additional catch basin for a very reasonable price. The system is now working very well and coping well even with heavy thunderstorms.

So far, everything is very good. The consultation was professionally, efficiently and courteously handled; the work promised was able to be scheduled shortly after the consultation; the crew showed up on time and did a really good job - they took obvious pride in their work and were quite conscientious about everything they did. I'll need to see overtime if this approach holds up, but I'm quite hopeful and would highly recommend Newborg Draining and Landscaping Co. to anyone trying to solve a problem with water in the basement without spending a fortune and without having your basement torn apart.

I was very pleased. It took awhile because there was so much. I thought they were very good. I had various referrals and bid for other providers and they wanted to do way to much and I didn't want that.

Wonderful and inventive people, and conscientious work. Many simple and elegant solutions to improve drain systems they installed more than 10 years ago and that now needed maintenance and expansion to handle the volume of rain we had this Spring. They took care of "Miss Utility" call ahead of time, so if their schedule opened up they could push the work up. Be as specific as possible about your expectations -- I provided a drain map, including a neighbors' drain which I had permission to snake -- then when one was not found that I had identified, they came back to locate it.

We had a wet corner in our garage, which is on the basement level.  Newborg addressed the issue from the exterior of the house. Initially, they tightened the downspouts and removed the drainage tubing that was buried underground.  The tubing was clogged and perforated.  Those measures did not solve the problem, so they returned and dug further down and  added some waterproof lining to the exterior and filled surface cracks.  There was an additional charge for the second day of work.  While the corner is drier, the problem still hasn't been solved completely. They offered to come back a third time and we would only be charged for that visit if it fixed the issue.  We have chosen not to pursue that option.  They would have to dig further down to figure out the issue and I do not want to pay for hours to dig where they already dug.  I feel like they should have dug further down the second time that they came back.
Everyone with the company was very professional and responsive.

Soil was dug up and then tamped down with added new soil; a furrow was dug to direct water away from the house.  No water problem in over a year.  Very satisfied.

Mr Newborg came over and I explained the issue I had with water not channeling away from the house. He came out with a detailed plan of creating a ditch and setting a drain pipe that would lead to the far end of the property into a dry well. He also recommended replacing an aging sump in one of the window wells.
I has wished that the drain would have emptied unto the sidewalk but the Town of Vienna refused.
The work was done exactly as planned and in the timeline communicated.
I highly recommend this service provider and would use them in the future.

GREAT company!  We've used Newborg before, as have many of our friends.  Steve Newborg is the most honest and kind man you could meet.  They do charge $75 for an estimate, but we have always found that it was worth it just for the information we get from the time they spend with us.  Pablo and his crew are honest and hard working.  Not only do they do excellent work, but they care for our home and yard as if it was their own.  They left everything clean and tidy, leaving no trace they where here, except for a beautiful and dry yard.

BUYER BEWARE.
My wife and I bought a house that needed substantial re-grading and drainage work done to deal with water issues affecting our basement.  I contacted Newborg based on high ratings on Angie's List, other consumer rating services, and personal referrals.
Due to all the heavy rain we've been receiving in the area, there is huge demand for landscaping and drainage services.  As such I had to wait entire month for my initial consultation with Newborg.  They also charge $75 for the consult--the only one of 5 companies I consulted with that charged such a fee.  That's not my main beef.
My big issue is that Newborg's estimate for the work came in astronomically high--nearly $7,000, compared to other estimates for comparable work that ranged from $2,000 to a high of $4,700 for other contractors.  I ended up getting the work done for a tad over $2,000 by a company that is highly rated on Angie's List, well-established, and highly reputable.  I believe that Newborg, taking advantage of the unusually high demand in the area for landscaping and drainage services in the area due to the recent extreme weather--and the desperation of many homeowners, like me, dealing with leaky and flooding basements--tried to gouge me.
When I questioned the estimate with the company, the owner contacted me directly, claiming that there must be a significant difference in the scope of work to account for the huge difference in the price estimates I'd received.  I suspect that his purpose in reaching out to me was primarily to try to avoid getting a negative review on Angie's List.  In any event, while there were some modest differences in the scopes of the various estimates, the basic work to be performed was substantially the same for all the estimates--add clay topsoil to raise the grade around the perimeter of the house, replace two window wells, and add downspout extenders with pop-up emitters.  There were a couple of items that Newborg proposed to do that others didn't, but these were fairly modest and could not possibly account for the huge price difference--they wanted to charge more than triple the cost of what I ended up paying!  And the contractors I used, for their part, performed some work items that weren't in Newborg's scope.
I recognize that Newborg is highly rated by many, and my experience may simply be an outlier.  Or it may be that Newborg is taking advantage of recent conditions of extremely high demand to try to rip people off.  Either way, if you do reach out to Newborg, make sure that you get quotes from multiple contractors so that you can compare prices.
Response from Newborg Drainage & Landscaping Company

"We regret that we left a bad taste in your mouth regarding our services. I assure you that the owner, Steven Newborg, replied to your questions about the pricing so as to provide excellent service. We never try to 'gouge' any one and are very clear and upfront with how much we charge and the work that will be performed. We are not cheap and do not do cheap work. We feel confident that we provided a clear and honest estimate."

Everything went very well.  I explained our drainage problems to Richard who came out to see the problem, draw up a plan  and give an estimate.  Richard is very knowledgeable and suggested the above solution.  Christina scheduled the work for the end of January and was in contact with us through the process.  She called to let us know whenever someone would be out working even though it was not necessary for us to be at home.  Everything is working as it should and we couldn't have asked for a better company or solution to our problem.

After contacting Newborg Drainage ,  a representative came to the residence and spent considerable time examining the existing drain pattern around the building . The seepage in the basement was assessed to be caused by improper drainage.  The representative provided a detailed drawing which indicated all work to be done. I called to get an idea of the warranty  and  Mr,.Newborg responded and explained that his company does not warrant that the work would prevent any seepage in the basement but that he has had a high success rate.  While I had no doubt that his service does indeed enhance drainage away from the house and may indeed solve the problem , the price was a bit more that I am willing to pay at this point without some additional assurance that it will solve the problem.
