About us
Welcome to Matson Construction LLC, we're a locally owned & operated finish carpentry and built in furniture company, serving the Washington DC area. We returned to DC in 2015 after nearly 10 years of service to the New Orleans area after Hurricanes Katrina, Gustav and Isaac. We are familiar with installing a variety of architectural styles and being held to the highest standards demanded by the residents of Capitol Hill, Georgetown and other prestigious areas surrounding our nation's capital. We specialize in built in furniture, cabinets and shelving units, bookcases, entertainment centers, fireplace surrounds, crown moulding, wainscoting, coffered ceilings, home offices and more. John did a fantastic job on some built in cabinets I wanted to have installed at home. I had initially reached out to another contractor who had come to visit my home on a Thursday, by Friday I reached out and received another quote the same day from John which ended up being half the price of the original quote I received (a week later). John is extremely professional, very communicative and his work is exquisite. John completed the work in the time he stated, the quality of his work is superb and he's overall just a pleasure to be around and work with. I will definitely be reaching out to John for more projects I have in the coming year.

I hired John to install built-in bookcases along two walls, with a rolling ladder. John's workmanship is terrific and I couldn't be happier with how the bookcases turned out. In addition, John communicated clearly about his work plan and progress each day, and he is efficient, tidy, and extremely polite and considerate. We recently worked with Matson Construction to install built-ins around the fireplace and dry bar in the basement. John was prompt, courteous, and professional. Outstanding service overall! John has been responsive and collaborative since we started to plan projects and get estimates. Different from other contractors who try to charge extra whenever there are some design modifications or changes, John was so easy to work with, took time explaining details & answering all my questions, and handled some design modifications smoothly on the spot without charging extra. In fact, he paid extra attentions to details and updated some of the built-in moldings beyond my expectation. He is not only professional, but also super nice! John created by himself a room-sized library. Floor to ceiling, shelves over the door and window. And an amazing work of craft. I've given John photos of the library without books. After I put up the books, I'll give him those too. Look at what a job he did. He did two other smaller bookcase constructions and pitched to help bring the old desk into the 21st century. He's just wonderful. I'm thinking about another room!

We found John on Home Advisor. John was on time for our original consultation and communicated very well leading up to our project, and during the project. He scheduled work days in advance for us and showed up as expected. We have a traditional colonial home in which John removed an old iron bannister and installed new balusters and new handrails. The finished product is great, we are very pleased with the result of his work. For what it's worth, I also think John is a very decent person which is an added bonus.
