I think the move took a lot longer than it should have, in part because one of the guys was sick (coughing and running a temperature, lethargic), in part because, as the owner later mentioned, he didn't have his other supervisor with him, and in part because, although the two other guys were very hard working, maybe they were not that experienced. So, not only did the move cost me more than it should have (paid by the hour for four guys), more importantly it took up more of my time than it should have. At one point they decided to make two trips (the townhouses were 2 miles apart). They were unloading and taking everything into the house until I finally suggested that they unload to the sidewalk and then have two of them take the boxes into the house while the other two should return to the old house and get the rest of the stuff. Also, one of the guys left a popsicle to melt on the bathroom counter and must have spilled some on the carpet. It did not come out when the carpet was cleaned professionally later that day. I blame myself because I should not have offered the popsicles. I don't know if the guys ate on the way over to the new house. It doesn't seem so since the energy level had definitely dropped and many boxes were put in places other than how they were marked, in some cases piled on top of boxes marked fragile and any which way. Some of the furniture was not screwed back together but the owner came back on the evening of the day I told him about it to do so. I would add that, other than the guy who was sick and should never have been brought to do the job, the three other men (including the owner) worked very hard and the two employees had a great attitude the whole time (almost 10 hours). Also, nothing was broken or scratched as far as I can tell (haven't finished unpacking) though the walls and floor got marked up here and there.
