Kitchen and Bath Remodeling, Cabinet Making
Joe Gelletich is our contractor. Our experience with them was good. They finished on time. They were extremely polite, very responsive and easy to work with.

I was very impressed with the entire Custom Crafters team. Tony, the project, director and his men, quickly and very neatly removed my old kitchen in a half-day. They cleaned up after themselves and removed everything from the site. They sealed off my living room and made efforts to protect my floors. My designer was with me throughout the project. I felt, in general, that I could reach someone if I needed to. I've actually called twice since the completion of the project--minor things. They have responded. This was a good experience. It took longer because I was away for a month. I felt I could trust these men to be in my home. When I had problems with the cabinets (staining problem by manufacturer) and the wood floors (installation and manufacturer quality), they followed-up by bringing the manufacturer's representative to my home and replacing 7 cabinet doors! The floor was also replaced. Amazing! All projects of this size may have challenges; however, if the problems are handled effectively it makes all the difference. I highly recommend Sean, Tony and their team. I also received a 5 year warranty on my new kitchen. I might add that my original estimate did not cover the final project because I chose a higher quality of cabinets, recessed lighting, and lighting for my showcase cabinets. Everyday I walk into this gorgeous kitchen and I'm grateful to Sean Bourg and Custom Crafters for having delivered what they promised-- An upscale kitchen at a moderate price. Thank you Sean Bourg!

Kitchen and Bath Remodeling
Our experience with Custom Crafters (Bethesda) was dramatically different from other Angie's List members. We note that the company appears to have been sold in 2007. Tim Kravchunovsky is the current owner, a fact that has not been updated on the company's website. We signed the contract in August 2007, but construction on the bathrooms did not begin until late January 2008 and construction on the kitchen did not begin until March 2008. (We were told that construction would begin in late September 2007.) We later learned from a sub-contractor that Custom Crafters did not even submit the kitchen drawings to the D.C. permit authorities until February 2008. They have never apologized or offered an explanation for this delay in either the bathroom or kitchen projects. On the bathroom projects, there was little to no supervision by Custom Crafters of the sub-contractors, resulting in numerous mistakes. For instance, the master bathroom floor was re-leveled using an incorrect method, resulting in a gap of 4 inches between the bathroom floor and the adjacent bedroom. To redo this would cost about $60,000. The heating radiator in the hall bath was installed in the wrong location and will have to be redone. The tiling in the hall bath shower was incorrect around the shower controls and the shower is unusable until it can be redone. The temperature controls in both showers were installed incorrectly. There is spilled tile sealant on the master bath floor that is virtually impossible to clean up. Custom Crafters has barely communicated with us since the beginning of this project. Eleven months after signing the contract, we have met the construction manager, Tony Carnevale, only once, who also has not returned our phone calls or e-mails. The designer, Joe Gelletich, was better, but often took his time in returning our calls and e-mails. (The design on both the bathrooms and kitchens was actually good, but the execution and supervision of the building was abysmal.) Fortunately the sub-contractor for the kitchen building project, Kelly Vogan and Associates, was wonderful.
Response from CUSTOM CRAFTERS INC
"IN REFERENCE TO CONSTRUCTION OF THE KITCHEN, THIS WORK WAS NOT IN OUR CONTRACT. WE SUPPLIED THE CABINETS AND APPLIANCES. ANOTHER CONTRACTOR HAD TO BUILD AN ADDITION PRIOR TO THE KITCHEN INSTALLATION. WE DID NOT HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER THE START DATES FOR THE ADDITION AND THE KITCHEN. WE HAD THE CABINETS & APPLIANCES IN OUR WAREHOUSE READY TO DELIVER WELL IN ADVANCE. IN REFERENCE TO THE MASTER BATH FLOOR, THE PROJECT COORDINATOR AND TILE INSTALLER SHOWED THE BUILD-UP OPTION TO ONE OF THE HOMEOWNERS. SHE AGREED TO HAVING THE FLOOR INSTALLED AS PER THAT OPTION IN THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT. IN REFERENCE TO THE HALL BATH RADIATOR, THE PLUMBER WAS NEVER ALLOWED TO INSTALL THE RADIATOR AND TEST IT. IN REFERENCE TO DOING ANY PUNCH LIST ITEMS (TILE REPAIR AT THE SHOWER VALVE, REMOVING TILE SEALANT FROM FLOOR, ETC.), WE WERE WAITING FOR THE CLIENT TO COME BACK FROM OUT OF TOWN. IN REFERENCE TO COMMUNICATION, THIS IS OVERSTATED, BUT THE COMMUNICATION COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER."

Kitchen and Bath Remodeling
The designers were top notch. The kitchen design was spectacular. All personnel from the designers to the finishers were cooperative. The materials were of the best quality. They use excellent sub-contractors. Their workers were clean, efficient, and always punctual. Their project manager was always available, answered all questions, and responded quickly to all matters of concern. The finished product was of showroom quality.

Brian, our designer, was really great. He had very creative ideas, showed me what could be done with the given space, showed me his portfolio and a typical contract. The overall estimate was too high for us, but it gave us lots of ideas of what we might be able to do in a couple of years.
