They came out 2 months AFTER I closed my account, filled my propane tank and tried to charge me. I never had fill up service when my account was open with them (I always called when I wanted them to come out) so this was definitely a dishonest ploy to make money. SCARY!

To create an account and setup service, someone must come out and perform a safety check.  They work very limited day time hours so if you work as well, you have to take time off of work for this to happen.  In addition, they do not guarantee a time, they simple provide a day.
Be careful as they do not tell you the required "account setup safety check" has a fee of 99.95 as well.
They filled the tank after and charged a rate that was within expectations and service was performed fine.
I feel the whole safety check scheduling was not customer service oriented and the fee was dishonest.

Relatively good customer service but the pricing is very excessive in addition to 3 years obligation contract, $72 tank rental fee and $300 penalty if the contract is broken.

If there were a cheaper alternative available (and I'm looking) I would drop Suburban like a bad habit.
I had Suburban install 2 additional tanks in November to hopefully eliminate the need for them to come to my place through the winter.  Economically, it wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done and it proved to be disastrously expensive. So I asked them to come back and remove the tanks in the beginning of June and do a site survey to relocate the tanks to make it easier for their delivery guys to bring me Propane, which is a nightmare on its own.
Back Story:
My dirt/gravel driveway is a 350 long and I have a small street that crosses it about half way. The street is 6 feet wide and max 4" at the crossing. 30 feet up to the stream, the driveway may have standing water if the stream gets a lot of water from runoff. Regardless, there is very little mud and the driveway is very solid, I've never gotten stuck in 13 years and never will.  The Propane delivery quys won't come down the driveway if there is standing water or if there is the slightest bit of snow or ice as they are afraid of getting stuck even though I have assured them that would never get stuck and if they did my neighbor will pull them out with his tractor. I was promptly ignored.  So on numerous occasions through the winter months I have to lower my heat to uncomfortable levels to prevent from running out of propane just in case these whiners don't want to come down my driveway. Despite that, I have had to replace my water pump 3 times because my house froze after running out of propane.  No reparations from Suburban.
So back to my description. Suburban guy shows up, when I'm not there, to do the site survey and he attempts to call me. Although their office knows I do not get cellular service at my home or in the driveway for that matter, their delivery and service guys don't know this. So this survey guy tries to call me anyway from my driveway.  Finally after the calls drop several times I called their office and asked them to radio their tech and tell him to move away from the driveway because there is no signal there. 20 minutes later he calls me from a better location (I had to call to tell him to do this? Really?). He proceeds to tell me of all the obstacles of moving the tanks and what the difficulty would be and why do i have to move them and .... whining.  Finally, he said he would give me an estimate of how much it would cost for the pipe and the moving of the tanks.
I'm still waiting for that estimate AND they didn't remove the two tanks like I requested.  Thanks guys.
Now to be fair, the people in the office are very nice, very helpful and they go out of there way to assist and enact whatever needs doing. Their field guys..... I don't know, just seems like they don't want to work.
If the propane wasn't so expensive, I really wouldn't care. But for the price that I am paying for fuel I would expect nothing short of stellar service.  But I don't get that.
I don't care for their billing, or how they call when you don't send them the amount they want (Oh, $200 a month is not enough?).
I do not have electric service (I'm off grid) but I would gladly heat my home with electric if I could.
Seek another fuel method or source.

Suburban gave estimates for under and above ground tanks, installed the tanks and connected to the generator and has maintained a supply of propane for the tanks.

We called to obtain a price for service. First, it took forever to get through to someone (a few calls, over a few days, and some wait time). When we did get through, the person we spoke to couldn't give us (the rather basic) information we needed about pricing. The person we spoke to indicated someone else would call us back (this never occurred). When we finally did reach someone, after calling multiple times, the prices were much higher than their competitors.

I came back to find a note from Ferrellgas that they couldn't fill my tank because they suspected a gas leak and they had shut off my gas at the tank.  When I called Ferrellgas they told me they couldn't come for 21 days.  I had to find someone and found Suburban Propane in the yellow pages and they were located in Greenwich - 518 793 2868.  They have 24 hour emergency service and were willing to sign me up as a member.  Your first fill is a good rate and then after that you have choice, all very competitive, as to how you want to go.  The tech came on 10/4 not only fixed the leak, but made sure that my stove, furnace, and hot water heater were all working before he left.  Great service.

I have never ran out so I guess they are here when they need to be. I never have to call them because they just do it when it needs it.

There was a lot of snow on the gound and I was surprised they wanted to come that day to install the tank. When they did the back fill they left somewhat of a mess behind. That wasn't quite noticable until the snow melted and I have since contacted them to come and clean that up. I'm waiting on a return call from them about that. (Stay tuned, I'll update this report as needed. As of now, I'll assume it to be somewhat positive.) Other than that, the installation seems to have been provided problem free.

Their bid was three times as much as another company. He said I had to have a five hundred gallon tank. Which is not what the other company said. Part of what he told me wasn't accurate. He told me he would have to put the line in by my neighbors driveway. They didn't even measure for the 100ft hose to see if it would reach. He was trying to make it convient for him, but it was ugly for me. What he said was true was too strict and not the case. They were telling me I would have to put this huge tank out in the open. Which is not what the two other companies said. It took a week for him to come out to do the estimate. Although he was nice and helpful when he was there. I would never hire this company.
