Have now done 4 chairs with Alvin. He does exceptional work. Chairs are all back to near new condition and work great. Alvin was very prompt and did a professional job. Highly recommend Also very reasonable price

A corner of an antique dresser drawer had gotten broken off, the drawer guides (that enable it to slide in and out) had broken, and generally the drawer was falling apart. Mr. Wheaton fixed it all, quickly and very well. I'm preparing to take another item for him to repair.

It went very well. The owner works out of his garage in the back yard, which is something of a mess. But he does very good work, is quick, reasonably priced, and nice!

Mr Wheaton made new cushions for a 40-year-old sofa -- all new insides and new upholstery. The result was so good, we hired him immediately to put new padding and upholstery on our dining room chairs. Another excellent job (and the chairs took less than a week). Would definitely hire again.

Perfect. I highly recommend Alvin for jobs that others claim can't be fixed and needs to be replaced

Alvin Wheaton works out of his garage in Annandale. I took him a teak dining room chair made out of  teak that my wife had made in Thailand.  One of the legs had split off.  He took the job and glued the chair with his special epoxy glue-- claims it is the strongest glue around. He fixed the chair in just one week and when I picked it up, my wife couldn't tell which leg had been repaired. The fixed leg was identical to the other three. Very fine workmanship for a reasonable price. I'm very pleased. Friendly guy too. Grows organic tomatoes in his back yard and gives some away to his customers, if they are  ripe. Nice to find a top professional that is a nice guy too. My advice: use him.

Mr. Wheaton, the owner of Renew It Shop, is a true old-world craftsman who repaired my furniture beautifully.  He did a superb job for a reasonable price.  He was courteous and professional and completed the job in less two weeks.   All of the furniture looks great.  I wish I had known about the Renew It Shop years ago.  I would have used Mr. Wheaton for my upholstery needs.

When I first saw Alvin's workshop in the garage behind his house I knew I had found what I was looking for.  He's a grandfather that runs his own furniture restoration workshop, and you know right away you are paying for his labor and not a bunch of overhead.  My wife and I didn't want to pay a bunch of money to restore these chairs to their original condition.  But we like them and we wanted to have relatively inexpensive repairs done so that we could use them.  When I brought them to Alvin's shop he explained several options to me and he recommended the least expensive option when I told him what our objective was.  I thought it might take him a couple of weeks to get the job done because he was restoring some other chairs at the same time and I had told him we were in no hurry, but a couple of days later he called me and said they were ready.  We had agreed to the price in advance ($140 to fix both chairs), and everything was done according to his recommendations.  Don't rush in and out of his workshop.  Go when you have some extra time in your schedule so that you have time to chat.  It's part of the positive experience.  In this world where we throw old stuff like these chairs away and then buy new stuff which is not nearly as nice, it's good to know there is someone like Alvin left who can fix things at a reasonable cost.  He has an answering machine that answers his telephone when he isn't there.  If that happens, leave a message because he will call you back as soon as he is free.  Both of the times we left voice messages he called back within a couple of hours.  I'm really glad we had Alvin fix these old chairs and that we didn't send them to the landfill.

Absolutely superb service.  The repair is great.  And, he is far below the price of most repair companies.  I would definitely use him again!

He's the only person I allow to do any work on my antiques. The sofa requires tufting, which is done by hand. He is an artist. He got the work done in about two and a half weeks, and the price was very reasonable for the work done. I was delighted when I got the couch back, I am so pleased. He is a very, very nice man and his work is extraordinary. He's the best I've ever seen.

A couple of years ago he worked on a custom piece for me that was made in 1847. This one of a kind love seat needed new springs. He was able to repair the springs without harming the $450 a yard french silk.

He's done numerous other jobs for me and he's always been incredible.

He has repaired 2 antique sofas. One of which is very unique. It was a custom piece. He has done chairs, sofas, and love seats. His prices were very reasonable. He is pleasant to work with and just a one of a kind worker. He doesn't get much business, but its only because people do not know him. He does magnificent work, and deserves a lot of business.
