WICK'S REPAIR

Don't know what happened to this shop. Chester usually gets my riding lawn mower in shape every other year or so and I've been happy with the service except for the past two years. I've asked them to raise the mowing deck because I have to mow on level 6 and I only have an inch or so after mowing. They never raised it last year and this year I went back to complain and Chester said it couldn't be raised and blamed it on the mower (weed eater).

$50 to even look at our pressure washer. $60 more and they said they fixed the carburetor. Got it home and don't you know its having the same problem. Of course it started about 5 minutes after running it, just long enough to get all of the carpets from our house soaped up in the driveway with no way to rinse them now. Awesome. And naturally Wick's has the most inconvenient business hours on earth (9-5 during the week and only open on Saturday until 1pm, and it takes them a few weeks to even get to your repair so finding out that your repair actually wasn't repaired at all isn't just a minor blimp, its another month of trying to figure out what to do.

Always great. Reliable and within their price and time-to-repair estimate.

Didn't call me to let me know part was on back order, and I had to call to find out what the status was, but they did get the the part, they got it done within a few days.

It went well.  The blade was ready when the provider said it would be.  The provider was very courteous and friendly

I brought my John Deere lawn mower in for service early in April, which certainly is the peak time. Service was completed in a week's time.
This is the second time I have had it serviced at Wicks. Before that, I had been sending it back to the John Deere dealer. After servicing at Wicks, the mower works much better than it ever did after the dealer servicing.

I found Wicks on Yelp, and figuring it was an easy repair I would not do much research - plus, I like to support small, local businesses. First impression - it looks like someone bought a house and turned the back into a junkyard for lawnmowers.
The guys inside seemed friendly enough at first, until the approx $40 non-refundable deposit came up. When I asked for a ballpark price or timeline or for someone to at least take a look at the unit before I gave them my money and property they just stared blankly. When I asked what happened if their final estimate was well over what I wished to pay, like $500 or $600 (far more than the mower is worth), they claimed it had never happened, but I would still be out $40.
After much discussion I finally got one of them to take a look at the mower and got a verbal estimate of 10 days and about under $100.
28 days later (Mid Nov, a slow season for lawnmower repairs) they finally called. And they charged me $120. No explanation or apology. I realize this is only $20, but it also a 20% increase, after taking three times as long as it should have taken.
All this AND terrible business hours. I won't be going back.

MOWER RUNS AND PERFORMS LIKE A NEW ONE. THEY RECOMMENDED 2 CYCLE FUEL/OIL MIX TO PREVENT CARBON BUILDUP ON VALVES. EXCELLENT RESULTS WITH THE FUEL. GREAT PLACE, NO NONSENSE OPERATION.

They were a little pricier than I thought. They are convenient, and I pushed the mower to them because I could.

Estimate was 20.00. When we picked up the lawn mower the cost was 16.00.

When I dropped the mower off, they discovered immediately that it required a new cable which they asked me to order directly from the supplier.
I expected to wait a couple of weeks for the service to be completed, but they called me back a few days later. They had thoroughly checked over the mower and discovered several other problems which they were able to fix with parts on hand.
The mower now runs much better than it ever did when it had been serviced by the John Deere dealer.

Wick's took a couple of weeks to complete the repair and perform the tune up (spring is the busy season). I was satisfied with the work and would use them again.

It was ok, not great. No call a week after I dropped it off. When I called them, they said they would look at it in the next couple of days, which they did and called me. They said it would take $200-$250 for the repair, and it did cost about that much. Not sure it was worth it, but that was my decision.
