I hired West to redo my small backyard. I was very clear about what I wanted in the space, which he agreed to during our consult. Before they began the actual work, he began arguing with me and claimed that what I'd requested wasn't possible (it's basically the same as my neighbor's and we have the exact same backyard dimensions and sun as we're in townhouses). I wanted a shade tree planted, the same shade trees that we have in our front yards, and he kept claiming my backyard wasn't large enough, despite it having had three trees originally. His "solution" was to put up an umbrella, which I don't need a landscaper to do. Basically he wanted over two thousand dollars to dump rocks in my backyard and call it a day. I paid for the cleanup they had already done and got another landscaper over for a quote the next day. The new landscaper was completely baffled about why West said what I wanted wasn't possible. Glad I went with another company.

Mr. West and his crews are extremely professional and very reliable. Their prices for landscaping and lawn clean ups were higher than others but they did a good overall job on all projects. It was easy to schedule and they always showed up on time!

I had no problems with them at all. They did everything they promised. Chris West, the owner, was very professional and helpful. I left it up to him to figure out what needed to be done and it came out beautifully.

The property was long overdue for a drastic upgrade and Chris was excellent in providing ideas and patient and open to suggestions. He was invaluable in dealing with problems from other on-going work, making changes to his schedule as needed. He made good suggestions on plants and trees to add. Chris treats his work with great care, returning to water newly laid sod and plants, and trimming. Chris was very good to work with and created a beautiful lawn while keeping the costs to a minimum for such a big job.

It was extremely difficult to get messages returned in a timely fashion. Once a date for the work to start was set the work was completed promptly. The work completed was of high quality. Following completion of the work damage was found in the area that the landscaping team had worked. When contacted the owner responsponded within an hour. After arriving at my home, he was defensive and disrespectful to my wife and sister. After some discussion, he agreed to repair the damage citing insurance and contractor friends. He subsequently called my wife and in an extremely condescending fashion told my wife that he would not repair the damage as previously promised.

"I am extremely disappointed to hear that you had such a bad experience with our company. This is the second time we have done work for you, so I am hopeful we met your needs the first time around. An unfortunate accident occurred that resulted in some miscommunication and harsh feelings. Specifically, there was an accident that resulted in a fire on the front porch. When I learned of the fire, I immediately went to the property to assess the damage. I know we were all upset by the damage and thankful that nobody got hurt. I did assure you that West Landscapes would take care of any repairs, if I found that we had anything to do with the fire and resulting damage. After conferring with the fire marshal and a licensed electrician, I was informed that the damage was caused by the use of an electrical cord for outdoor lighting and not the responsibility of West Landscapes, nor the result of anything we did. Even though it is not my responsibility, I did feel badly. I called in a favor with a contractor friend and provided your wife an estimate at a discounted rate to repair the damage. West Landscapes is a small business located in the community of Del Ray, Alexandria. As a resident of the community, I think of my clients as neighbors and friends. I am passionate about my work and love what I do and do my best to meet the unique requirements of each client. For example, to meet your needs, I rearranged my schedule to move your project up by 2 weeks to accommodate a visit from your relatives. I worked with you on the project price to meet your budget and allowed a flexible payment schedule. I feel badly that the accident happened and I apologize for saying anything that your sister or wife found disrespectful. Before the incident, your wife commented, “the place looks beautiful and you did a great job.” I hope the work speaks for itself and I am sorry again that we ended on a dissatisfying note."

I was getting ready to put my house on the market. So, they totally cleared the yard. They put in some new landscaping and sods. They redid some grass in the front yard and cleaned out the backyard. They trimmed some bushes. They also put down some mulch. Their estimate was a lot cheaper than the other estimates I had received. They were wonderful. The owner came out with the staff and did what needed to be done. He also checked on what the staff did. He was very involved. I continued to use him once a week for mowing and other things. I like them because they are very friendly and very quick. I spent about $1500 for the job. They did the work through several days. They did the work within the timeframe I had given them. It was quite a lot of work. I am still using them and will continue to do so in the future.
