They have been wonderful and everyone who is there is very friendly, efficient, and explains things to me. They are very caring and compassionate and if there is an illness that needs to be addressed, they are always willing to get you in quickly. I have confidence in the vet and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I have been going to them for the care of my cats for about 30 years.

Since the one veterinarian at VCA who had a special interest in dog behavior issues retired, we haven't had a specific practitioner that we see - but everyone who has treated our dog has been excellent. They sometimes get behind, though that's improved with the last few visits. They aren't the least expensive practice, but I think they earn what they charge. The emergency clinic services are much more costly, but also very good in our experience. We have a dog and at one point had a guinea pig. The dog has been treated at the regular clinic and in the emergency service, The guinea pig went in for night time emergency service twice, and both times the treatment was appropriate. We and the guinea pig would have been referred to an exotic-animal clinic if it had needed more treatment, but the emergency vet on duty was able to provide outpatient care for the issues we took it in for. This was some years ago, don't know what their current policy for emergency treatment of exotics is, but the staff took good care of the guinea pig at the time.

The clinic hasn't got the lowest prices around, but we've never been disappointed in the care we got there. Since the one veterinarian with a specialized interest in treating dog behavioral issues retired, we don't have a regular vet there, but we've liked everyone who has seen our dog. The emergency clinic is very expensive, not surprisingly. Though the clinic only treats dogs and cats, we've taken a guinea pig to the emergency clinic twice, and both times the vet that we saw knew how to treat the guinea pig.
Description of Work: We have used them for both emergency and routine care for our pets.

They are amazing!!! The previous owner took Jitters to this veterinarian and so I continued this. They are very friendly, knowledgeable, they remember your pet and give special attention. They also mail you out tick and flea medicine so you don't forget, and they can do this on a monthly basis by charging your card and mailing it out. I would highly recommend them to others. They also have reasonable rates as well.

I had had her in previously for dental work and this place on her leg was where they had put the IV in. When they removed the IV, the dog kept favoring it and so it wasn't really healing properly.

They did not charge me that day because I had to put my cat down. The veterinarian is wonderful and I have been going there for years. I have three cats and two of them are gone but I like the care. They did everything to take care of them even one of the cats is dying. They are just wonderful to me. They are very expensive.

They are excellent. They are open 24/7 and their emergency staff is there 24/7 so they give our cat very good hours so it is easy to get the cat checked in for appointments or cancel it if it is not working. Their vets are very professional and they are very good about corresponding with emails or be it simple questions, we just email the vet and they get back to us without us having to go in and make a whole appointment about it. They have just been very wonderful. We had 2 cats now and we had an older cat that we had to put down a year and half ago and they were just very supportive about the process and very thoughtful. They treated us very well and treated our cat very well.

They took and x ray and said everything looked fine and sent us home. we returned the next day, unable to walk. Again, sent us home. The next day, I took the dog to Southpaws. They looked at the same x ray and took him into surgery for a compressed disk. His condition worsened and he died. Alexandria did refund my money, after a letter I sent, but I would never take a dog there for diagnostics of any kind.

VCA staff could not have been more professional or nicer under very trying circumstances. Our nine-year-old tabby was fine in the morning, when suddenly his back legs gave out and he was in tremendous pain. Our regular vet wasn't available, so we went to VCA. Kitty was immediately taken for triage and after about 20 minutes the vet sat down to explain what was going on and what our options were. Diagnosis was Saddle Thrombus, where a blood clot blocks the veins to the legs causing instant paralysis and severe pain. This condition is usually a result of an enlarged heart or heart disease - often unknown until the clot happens. Vet said that while medications could help for a while, our kitty's temperature was already dropping rapidly, indicating other major problems. At that point, cats often throw off other clots...causing more pain or instant death. She kindly recommended putting kitty down for its own sake as any treatment at that point would only delay the suffering and inevitable outcome.. While that decision was extremely difficult, espeically making it for a cat who appeared fine just an hour before, we were grateful that she didn't give us false hope and lots of charges for unnecessary procedures for what, as later research showed, would have been a rather nebulous effort to save kitty's life. They waited patiently while I could round up family members, then let us have a private room to say goodbye for as long as we wanted before the procedure. Afterwards, we were again told we could have time to just sit with kitty. There was no rushing us and when we were ready to leave, taking kitty with us for interment at home, they thoughtfully wrapped him and placed him in a nice sturdy white box. Everyone from front desk staff to vet made us feel like this was the most important kitty in the world....and he was to us.

It was pretty much the total vet costs of the year since there are annual exam, labs, shots and prescription. The staff are extremely friendly and very good with our dog, they vets are super knowledgeable and it seems like they take some extra time to really try to get to know the dog and understand kind of what our concerns are. Things that we maybe stress out over that might not be that important, but they still listen and take their time to explain any concerns that we have or anything that we should be looking for based on the time of the year and other things that they have seen other dogs coming in with. They have 24 hour staff so you can bring your dog anytime.

Our dog has suffered from seizures since we got him 7 years ago. We have moved all over the country with him due to my job. This has allowed us to visit a number of different vets as we have tried to control his seizures without much improvement. Dr. Lewis excellent listening and smarts have helped us go from seizures every month to six months. Our dog lost 12 pounds and has a lot more energy since we started seeing VCA. There are other good stories but this one helped our dog get his quality of life back.

Have been seeing Dr. Jacqueline Suarez for over two years. From the basic shots to the stick injury to a bad cut on my German Shepherd's paw. I can not say enough good things about Dr. Suarez. She is knowledgeable, caring, takes the time to explain everything, and has a genuine interest in the health of my baby. Last but very important, my German Shepherd likes Dr. Suarez so I like Dr. Suarez.

Dr. Donna Krochak is by far the best vet we have ever met. She is not only very professional and knowledgeable, but she "radiates calm" during the appointments. Our cat "Scar", is not the best patient, but she completely relaxes around Dr. Krochak. We moved back to VA this year, after being gone for 5 years, and were delighted to see Dr. Krochak was still in town - she was Scar's vet back when we lived here before for 4 years. Scar has "slowed down" and become more "anxious" this last year, so we took her in to see Dr. Krochak for a check up. She was very calm and relaxed with Dr. Krochak during the exam and tests, and we were able to get the help that she needed. Yes, the clinic is expensive, but worth every dime - we have never had a bad experience with our cats going there. My only advice would be to ask for Dr Krochak. She is wonderful.
Description of Work: Intensive check-up - found that our cat has high blood pressure and a little arthritis, but at 16.5 years old, she is in remarkable shape and is otherwise very healthy.

As I walked in the door to check in, I was greeted with the usual happy hello and how are you from several employees. Dr. Seth Cohen, my regular vet, came out at the appointment time and greeted me as well. Before the exam, Dr. Cohen always asks how my dog is doing and if any problems or changes have occurred. Then, do I have any questions. During the exam, he informed me during every step, including giving me a follow up call with the lab results and a cost for surgery to have them removed. For both dogs, I make the appointment with Dr. Cohen because all the animals I've taken there over the years have been calm during the exams as he has a soothing manner. Even my handicapped pets didn't panic. Although the prices are higher than most of the surrounding vets, I continue to be a client because of convenience (within walking distance), the emergency vet, the service, and especially, the staff. It's been my vet since 1966.
Description of Work: One of my 9 year old dogs, who was recently adopted from a shelter, has cysts and a few fatty pockets. Dr. Cohen checked them because I was concerned about 2 cysts in particular. He took samples to be sent to the lab for analysis.
