We have been so pleased with the overall experience that we have contracted with them to perform additional home improvement needs including installing a larger capacity breaker box and central air conditioning.

Very satisfied with the Ransom Company and the quality of work Robert's team delivered. We had a large and challenging (painting, electrical/lighting, and flooring), and a very tight timeline, but we couldn't have been happier with the standard of service and the quality of the final product. Robert was very thorough and very patient with us. We had used him before for our bathroom, but he methodically explained everything that needed to be done and how it would be done. He spent quite a bit of time going over our plans and helping us think of placement of cabinets and other improvements in ways we wouldn't have thought. It was very helpful to have someone who was not only a builder but a consultant and advisor for a pretty big job for a condo.

The ransom company provided an outstanding service. Robert and his team recently took on the complete renovation of a row house I purchased on Capitol Hill ||Robert was involved at every step along the way including design, selection of materials and fixtures. His team are fully knowledgeable and compliant with the various res and regulations within DC. His advice and suggestions were excellent and helped shape the entire project through to completion. ||He finished on time and in budget and had sufficient flexibility to take on additional work within the overall project as we went along. ||The standard of work was excellent. His team are courteous and professional and they left the property in immaculate condition||It was a challenging project with a tight time line. The ransom company delivered in all areas. They are a high quality family operation. I would unreservedly recommend them and will be sure to use them again in the future.

We had a fantastic experience working with The Ransom Company. The bathroom renovation was very well done (I am in love with the finished product), the workmen were incredibly professional, and the Ransom Company owners were thoughtful, responsive and knowledgeable. I would absolutely recommend them for anyone in the area doing a bathroom re-design (or for any work for that matther!)

Robert Ransom promptly returned my call and scheduled a time to look at the work and provide me with an estimate. I live in a condo and several contractors I'd contacted did not work in condos. After reviewing the estimate and making some changes to the scope and for budget, the work was scheduled. Both the estimate and the scheduling were the most time consuming parts of the process. The work took a longer than I expected, some of it having to do with additional area that was discovered when knocking down an existing wall and some of it had to do with the complexity of the tile work. Roberto's employee was punctual and pleasant. He also worked hard to keep our house as tidy as possible from the construction mess. I relied on Robert several times throughout the process to help me pick out appropriate fixtures and paint colors. He made good suggestions each time. The work was excellent.

From the first day we started, The owners were present and on top of every aspect of my studio remodel. They were punctual and delivered on time. Subcontractors were experienced and professional. Over all, I feel Robert went above and beyond not only completing and executing our contractual agreement, he spent additional time researching any questions I had with unforeseen obstacles in my old, dated building. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this family run and operated business is and the people who work for and with them. I would absolutely work with them again.

We hired the Ransom Company to do a substantial list of things to our new home in very short period of time - in addition to the complication of timing over the holidays. We closed on our home December 20 and The Ransom Company began work the next day. We moved in December 28 with a majority of the major work complete (amazing) and the additional finishing up work only took another couple weeks. I was very impressed with the amount of work and quality of the work in such a short period of time - at a very competitive price. Robert and all his subs were very professional. We certainly had a few hiccups along the way (as with any renovation and all the decisions) and Robert was helpful to explain the process -- what needed to be corrected/was done wrong before us etc. The only improvement could have probably been on my side -- I should have spent more time making decisions before we started and would have made the Ransom Companies job easier and made for a few less last minute change orders. We truly love our new home and are thankful for The Ransom Company - so much so - we are starting to make list again of additional renovations/changes we would like to take on this spring.

we hired The Ransom Company to demolish, rebuild, design and re-finish a kitchen, dining, and 2 bathrooms upon purchase of a home in DC. The Ransom Company was professional, efficient, responsive and came with great re-design ideas when it came to the structure in buying us more space. We have ended up with bigger space in our kitchen and our 2 bathrooms - which is great for a DC home. We expect our value has jumped over 150K or more. Robert was able to complete a major overhaul with plumbing and electricity updates in less than 2 months. Amazing! Thank you Robert!

Simply put, Ransom Company designed and built my dream bathroom. They walked into a poorly remodeled room full of 1980s vintage equipment, helped me figure out how best to make the changes I wanted, and took charge of the process, beginning to end. I felt comfortable with their professionalism and their expertise throughout, and they discussed every major decision with me before moving forward. When the project was done, they promised that they would be available to fix any problems that arose afterwards, large or small; even more impressively, when something did come up a week later, they followed through. This isn't a low-cost, fly-by-night, design-build firm -- the maxim "you get what you pay for" certainly applies -- but if you want the best in terms of customer service, responsiveness, and results, I'd recommend hiring Robert Ransom for your next project.

We are extremely pleased with the work that The Ransom Company did. As I said, this was a truly massive project. They took a space that was essentially a large pile of dirt and turned it into a beautiful space. We now have a gorgeous full bath, many spacious closets and a wonderful rec room/guest room. The workmanship that The Ransom Company did was impeccable. Everything is finished gorgeously. One of the things that we were most impressed about when working with this company was all of the small things they thought of. This was our first home remodel so we really had no idea what we were getting into. Robert thought of so many small things that we just would never have thought of (lights in the closets; creative ideas to deal with the HVAC ducts; creative space solutions like using the under stair area for our w/d and storage). Having someone who is an expert and can help maximize your space is really invaluable. Additionally, we found all of Robert's subcontractors to be excellent to work with. They were friendly, conscientious, and clean with their work. Robert was also willing to have his subcontractors help us out with a few other little projects we had while they were working (hooking up our ice maker etc.), which was something we greatly appreciated. When the work was finished they also did great clean up work, including having a maid come through and thoroughly cleaning any outside areas where they had done work. Our only downsides within this project came with getting the permits and timeline. Getting the permits took a lot longer than we all thought it would, which set our timeline back a lot. Also, as with all construction, it took a bit longer to complete the project than originally anticipated. Overall we could not be more pleased with the work that was done, and will definitely be using The Ransom Company again.

Everything with Ransom company takes time and is complicated. A simple estimate takes can take weeks. Setting up a meeting requires the clients to jump over hoops and accomodate Mr. Ransom, still when they come they do a great job.I called Ransom company for an estimate for a wall fixing and electrical work. For the electrical work, the electricians came on time and solved my problem. For the wall fixing, the process was unnecessary tedious. First, Mr. Ransom stated that his crew can come only on a Saturday (my very busy day) as he assumed it was a small job. I agreed but then his crew did not show up, and we had to reschedule. When they finally showed up, they found out that the wall was badly damaged and needed work because the roof was still leaking. So, they removed the drywall and stated that they will provide me the estimate for the work after I get the roof fixed. Because of a miss-understanding between Mr. Ransom and I, of when he should come to fix it, and it was an emergency, I decided to get someone else to come finish the work. Still Mr. Ransom took the time to apologies for the miss-understanding, and he also offered me free handyman work, which I appreciate.

They were professional and on time. They got their work done on time. They delivered when they were supposed to.

I e-mailed the company through Angie's list and received a phone call w/in about 30 minutes. I was told that they now focused on larger remodeling projects and that my small plumbing project was no longer something they did. It would have been better if that was made clear on their AL company information. perhaps they should be removed from the "handyman" category.

Overall Experience: AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! ? I’m a relatively new condo owner, I bought my place in 2009 and this the first time I have ever hired anyone to fix anything. I haven’t fixed anything on my own and don’t have a lot of self confidence in my ability to do things ? Robert was extremely patient, responsive and friendly. He took the time to answer all my questions. For example, the previous owner had left paint. However, I had no idea if it was still good. I was nervous about going somewhere and having them sell me paint that I didn’t need. Robert took the time to recommend a place that would check the paint. ? Robert was also really patient and understanding with me in regard to scheduling. This was the first time I had any work done in my condo. I’m on the third floor and wanted to make sure that there weren’t any rules about noise and that I wouldn’t be disturbing any of my neighbors ************************************************************************************************************************************ Why I mentioned to IKEA Furniture: I know there are assembly services but I was tired of waiting. I thought that Robert might be able to have some people assemble the unit for me after the wall was painted. I sent him an picture and asked him about it. He said that it would probably be easier and less expensive to use an assembly service. I really appreciated the frank honesty. While I’m sure he had people with the skills to do it he didn’t try to sell me something I didn’t need. *********************************************************************************************************************************** ? When the day came both workers arrived early. They were both extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They took the time to explain things and to answer any questions that I had. ? I was extremely impressed that Robert came by to check on things. We talked a little bit and he took the time to answer a few general home improvement questions. In addition, I asked if he could recommend a good hardware store. I explained that I was nervous about someone selling me things I didn’t need. He understood my concern and took the time to recommend a place. ? I thought I had the correct paint to do the wall where the holes were patched. Unfortunately, I didn’t. The person that patched the holes and that was going to paint noticed this before starting and told me about it. He took the time to explain the different types of paint to me. I was extremely grateful. He also answered my questions about the different types of paint in my place (the outside door, the ceiling, etc). ? After everything was completed Robert took the time to call and ask me how everything went which I really appreciated. Overall: While I want to become a more knowledgeable and self sufficient condo owner I would have absolutely no problem hiring the Ransom Company again to do a job even it was really small.

He fit me in to his schedule to get the work done before I had to start on another part of the project and offered to come back an extra time to hook everything up once I was done with my project. He was very understanding of me wanting to do some of the work myself and even suggested that some things would make more sense for me to do than hire it out. His crew showed up on time and performed the work in one day and left the area clean. Very professional. Also Robert is very responsive with bids and follow up and making sure you're satisfied. Some contractors you have to chase down to get bids or work done - not the case here.

Robert was a complete professional and the work was perfect and completed on time. I was very impressed and have already recommended him to friends. I would use him again without hesitation. His is the best company I have ever worked with for home repairs.

This was the 2nd time I hired The Ransom Company. The owner Robert is a pleasure to deal with. He is very knowledgeable and is able to provide detailed explanations of the problem and solutions. Currently I live across the country and a small problem occurred in my rental unit. Since I couldn't see the before and after, he emailed me pictures at several stages of the project. He worked with my tenants to find agreeable times to conduct the work and the problem was solved in a matter of days. Couldn't ask for better service. His work is very thorough and high quality.
