Mel came over to the house and looked the chair over. In its original condition, it had tucks and buttons on both the seat and back.  I had chosen a striped fabric, which at first Mel didn't think would work with the deep tucks.  So he upholstered it and added the buttons on top without the tucks. It looks great.
Mel is highly knowledgeable of his raft; they did a great job on time. It was a little higher than the estimate because the chair only had two supportive sides instead of four, so they had to do some extra work on the seat.

Owner Mel Stokols is absolutely wonderful to work with and the craftsmanship is exceptional. I enjoyed my experience with them so much that I am actually looking for more things to recover or upholster.

The owner of Style-Rite, Mel Stokols, came to my home, complete with a wide array of fabrics to choose from. He also thoroughly checked my sofa to determine whether it was worth the expense of re-upholstery as opposed to just buying a new one. He also helped me narrow down my choices (I believe he saved me from an unfortunate choice). My shabby sofa remained in my home until the new fabric was in Mel's shop (this was delayed because his supplier sent fabric from two dye lots and it had to be returned). Mel then picked up my sofa and two weeks later delivered my beautiful new sofa.
Mel added a bit of stuffing to the cushions to plump them up a bit. He did a wonderful job; my sofa not only looks like new - it looks BETTER than it did when it was new. In fact, a friend was so impressed he's calling Style-Rite to arrange for the re-upholstery of a sofa and matching side chair!

Prompt, reliable. Obviously an upholstery expert. Would use him again, absolutely.

Mel, the owner, was very friendly and responsive from the start. I didn't already have a fabric, so he came to our house to show us samples and to measure the loveseat. After choosing the fabric and agreeing on price, I paid for a third of the order and he ordered the fabric. Once the fabric arrived (about 3 wks later), Mel and one of his cutters/sewers came back to our house to get detailed measurements and more info from me about the style I wanted for the slipcover. About two weeks later it was ready and Mel came byin the evening to place it on our loveseat.
They did an excellent job. The slipcover fits perfect and has transformed the loveseat. The sewing is very well done, and they did a great job with the skirt and the welting.
It was kind of expensive, but it's worth it for the custom fit of the slipcover -- it stays in place perfectly. (The type of fabric you choose also affects the price, of course.) In addition, getting a slipcover was less expensive (and and quot;greenerand quot;) than buying a new loveseat. Plus, Style Rite's price was better than some other local upholsterers. I would definitely use them again.

Style Rite did a fantastic job. The job took a relatively long time but we did say that we weren't in a rush. From start to finish it took about two months. They came to the house with fabric books and gave us an estimate that was very reasonable, especially compared to other quotes we recieved. Once the fabric came in, they came back and picked up the couch. The pick up time coordinated with our schedule which was very helpful. When the couch was completed, the delivered it, again on our schedule. Although it did take some time, Style Rite was very responsive to our calls. The owner returned our calls within hours of us leaving a message. It was a pleasure dealing with them. I would recommend this company.

I contacted Mel Stokols... I actually didn't reach him when I first called - I did not leave a message, but he called me back with Caller ID. Mel was prompt to call me right before our scheduled meeting times. When it turned out that my schedule couldn't accomodate me driving the materials out to his shop in Alexandria, he worked a personal pickup and delivery into his schedule. Mel delivered the finished product sooner than I expected. I don't have a lot of upholstery needs, but I would certainly contact Style-Rite again if those needs do arise again.

I thought the process went smoothly. I had a cushion that I wanted to match the fabric and he brought sample books to the house. We found a good match and he took the chairs away. I got the chairs a month later (they had been ready earlier) but I had been on vacation and I wasn't in a hurry. I thought the price seemed pretty reasonable. Chairs look much better!

They had tons of fabric to choose from. We got the chairs back within a week.
