As in all projects there will be little hiccups. But nothing seemed to phase either Emre or Ike. No matter how small the issue was, they responded immediately and corrected the issue.
It has been over a year since the first phase of our kitchen remodel (to include a Powder Room remodel) and we were really impressed that Solid K&B took the time to perform minor touch ups from previous projects. This really showed us that a customer's relationship with Solid K&B is not over simply because the project is complete!
We are already compiling our list of future projects (Bath Room, Laundry Room, Stairs, etc..) and we can't wait to call upon Solid once again. Your integrity and professionalism will keep us coming back time and time again!
This company is a delight to work with. Ike, the owner, has assembled a close-knit team of experts. These people are colleagues and friends who work closely together and provide seamless service. If you email with a question, they are extremely responsive. If you call the office, anyone who answers can assist--everyone at Solid knows what is needed on your job.
fixturesTheir contract clearly outlined the scope of work and provided pictures of chosen products. Emke, the head of operations, took the measurements and supervised the demolition and construction. Sirin, who has a wealth of design experience, helped with tile and counter choices in their attractive showroom that carries top-of-the-line fixtures and vanities. She coordinated the order and ensured that every building material and fixture was on hand before the job began. All three came to check on the job progress.
The main bath was gutted, retaining only the porcelain tub. Solid tiled the tub enclosure to the ceiling, and tlled the other walls to a four-foot height; replaced the tile floor; replaced the toilet; installed two pairs of sconces; installed two shower heads; and added a quartz counter with undercount porcelain sink. Provided a custom-framed mirror to match the cabinet. Their carpenter customized a new vanity to fit a narrow depth--cut it down expertly, including the drawers, and created custom matching shelving to expand the width. They painted ceiling, remaining untiled wall spaces, linen closet and wood trim. They indicated the work would take about 15 workdays, but actually finished in 12.
We contracted for extra work while they were on site, replacing a toilet, repairing 4 cracked floor tiles, and replacing porcelain sinks and quartz counters in other baths.
There were no surprises--their contract covered everything.
Two months after the job, I called about a problem caulk area and a sticking door in the new bath and they came right away to correct the problems.
Dealing with Solid is effortless for people who live it Old Town--they are based here and you can make all your design choices without driving all over to tile and plumbing supply houses. I would definitely use Solid again and tell all my friends to do so, too.
Overall, very easy to work with, very good service, and outstanding end product.
From the first visit to their office / showroom to the last final inspection, they are a team of fantastic professionals!
What sold me initially was their use of software to provide to the customer 3D renderings of the design. When I was shopping around for companies to perform the work, this was the only company that offered such a service. The 3D renderings allowed me to actually visualize what they were suggesting. At the end of the day, it's amazing how close the finished product turned out just like the proposed rendering.
We are a family with 2 children under 2 and they went out of their way to accommodate us. It isn't always easy to get the four of us to their office and discuss design elements, so they brought their office to US (on more than one occasion)!
They also made sure that through the entire construction time frame, that we had easy access to our existing refrigerator. Perhaps that is the norm in the industry, but we certainly weren't expecting that level of courtesy and thoughtfulness.
They were very receptive to our ideas and questions. They acknowledged and appreciated our budget and worked magic to stay within our constraints but still deliver a superb product!
We also have two very small dogs. During the entire construction process, their team too extra steps to ensure a safe environment for our family and pets.
What I am thrilled with most is how accommodating they were when I would write and or call with random changes. They didn't sigh and shake their head at me, rather they smiled and said, "you got it"! But, they also understand the dynamics of our family and made sure that what I was asking for, was in fact the right way to go.
Being that this was the first project of this scope that we have ever stated, Solid really nailed a home run for us! Without me even asking, they went ahead and performed little patches and touch ups on the walls that weren't even a part of the project!
All in all, we couldn't be any happier with their work and service! They completed the project on time (actually early) and delivered at the cost that we agreed upon.
We look forward to hiring Solid again for our other 2 bathrooms!
We did a second walk through of my house with Ertan, who would over see the project. As I do not currently live in the house, I received photos every couple of days showing me the progess of the remodel. Thw whole thing took less than three weeks and now I have a beautiful kitchen and bath.
Having Solid Kitchen and Bath do the floors was an after thought, but I am so glad they did. Overall I am very pleased with the work done and am already thinking through the future projects.
I went to their showroom in Old Town, Alexandria the following Sunday, to pick out granite, cabinets, flooring and bathroom fixtures. It was wonderful that all of it was available there, in one place. Ertan, the designer, had completed some 3-D computer drawings for the renovations, which made the visualization so much easier! They also served me delicious Turkish coffee, of which I am very fond.
The work began as they promised right before Thanksgiving. My project manager was Emre K. and he has been wonderful through the whole project-always willing to do whatever is needed to help me out through the construction phase. He even moved some of the furniture I was getting rid of out to the garage and put together bar stools that I had ordered for the new counter. He and Ayk helped me to clear out the kitchen cabinets before the renovation started; a great help with a daunting task. I was so surprised and glad that throughout the renovations my emails and/or phone calls were ALWAYS responded to within the same day, often within the hour. That kind of reliability is outstanding and gratifying. Jose and his construction team were at the house everyday, even Saturdays, so the work continued smoothly and continuously. Again, I have never experienced such reliability from contractors.
I was so pleased with their work that I met with Ayk to set up new projects 2,3 and 4! This included renovating two more bathrooms, installing carpet in the family room, pulling up carpet in the rest of the house to refinish the underlying hardwood floors, painting most of the rooms and ceilings in the house, fixing an outdated and corroded circuit box, fixing plumbing that had been incorrectly or negligently installed in the first place, installing overhead lighting in 2 rooms and the upstairs hallway, and correcting various electrical issues that came up in the course of the work. We finished the projects at the end of January 2015-exactly when Ayk said they would.
I am so pleased with all the work and with the responsiveness of the whole team of people at SKB that I would whole heartedly recommended them to everyone. Once all the work was completed, Ayk came through with Emre and marked all the spots he felt needed some finishing touches-he found more than I did and as a write this, that work will be completed tomorrow.
I met most of the team at SKB throughout the projects, and they became like a family to me, particularly Aik (Ike), Ertan, Emre K and the lead construction manager, Jose. I always felt that they cared about me and my house, and were invested in getting it exactly the way I wanted it to be.
When the refinishing of the floors caused odors that would make it uncomfortable for me to sleep in the house, the company put me up in a local hotel for a few days. That type of courtesy, kindness and generosity makes me feel like family.
It has been a wonderful experience to work with SKB! I have nothing but good feelings about the past 2 months of renovation and the house is absolutely beautiful. I can't say too often how wonderful, considerate, talented, reliable and fair Solid Kitchen and Baths is as a team and as individuals. The price was very fair, the work impeccable and I am so pleased with the outcome.
Their work was very good, they were very responsive to any issues that came up and when there were issues, we didn't have to worry about them, as they took care of them.
We are planning on doing more work with them! They are great to work with, their pricing is fair and we recommend them. And if you live in Old Town Alexandria, it is nice to support local businesses that are good!
Fast forward next day Ike and Anton came to our house with a proposal. They had a reasonable financial figure but also a plan. They had an Microsoft Project timeline prepared telling us what will happen when. Everything looked very organised and all the paperwork, licenses, bonds and insurances were in place ( our buildin management requires the contractors to be licensed A Class) Anyhow we decided to sign the contract next day. When we were handing the check to them they gave us a written finish date for the project, I guess not many companies does that.
we scheduled the project to take place during the time when we were overseas to minimize the impact of project in our lives. A month later we left them the keys and went to my husbands home country to visit family. During the time we were gone their project manager EmK was sending us daily uodates of the project and pictures and every friday he was sending us a video of the house.
Needless to say it was quite good to be far away while the actual work took place,On our last week of the vacation a week before the promissed timeframe solid's project manager sent us an email video stating that the entire project has been finished and the house had a professional cleaning service. We just got back couple days ago back to US and we fell in love with our house. Thanks Solid Kitchen and Bath you guys were amazing.
The entire job was completed two days ahead of schedule and my husband and I are ecstatic about the results. It's amazing how remodeling the kitchen and two baths made the entire home feel more light and modern. They had opened up the kitchen to better flow into the living and dining room it changed the entire dynamic of the house. We love our newly remodeled home so much that we're now considering staying here a few more years until it becomes a sellers market again.
My father had maintained and kept everything as updated as possible over the years. Instead of just ripping out everything and starting from scratch Ayk managed to integrate the old and the new to create a seamless modern design for both the Kitchen and Baths. While staying within our tight budget and timeline.
Since the home was empty his crew was able to start work within a few days after the design was completed. I stopped by every few days and I could see that they were making solid progress every time I checked on them. They took great pains to cover and tape up anything that wasn't being upgraded and I was impressed with their craftsmanship. The work progressed on schedule with only a minor delay due to shipping and delivery issues. However, they were able to maintain their schedule by working late when the parts finally arrived.
The entire project was completed one week before my parents were to come back and my sisters and I couldn't be happier with the results. They also somehow managed to do the entire project ahead of schedule and under budget. My parents were blown away when they came back to see the results and I could hear my mom murmuring how she couldn't believe she was back in the same house they had left just two months earlier.
