Harol Silva was very professional and knowledgeable. His proposal was detailed and clear. His fee for work was as projected, with no hidden add ons. He was prompt and neat, and the people he hires to work for him are equally capable and efficient. They put in long hours and finished on deadline. We worked with a designer, and Harol worked well with a designer who was new to him. He and those in his company were able to see problems before they got far into the process (such as a toilet that was not the correct rough-in size) and were able to redirect us. Our project consisted of removal of old bathroom in its entirety, and install of new plumbing, tub, fixtures, cabinetry, and countertop. We also used this company for a very successful master bath project 1/2013 consisting of new tile flooring and new toilet. We would use them again and recommend them to others. Their pricing for our hall bath was $5,000 less than another estimate we received for equal work.
Silva Construction is a pleasure to work with! Harol Silva, the owner, came to my house on Wednesday, 2/11 to see the basement and to discuss the project. By the next day, there was an estimate waiting in my Inbox. Silva Construction's estimate was $1,000 - $2,000 cheaper than the other two estimates I received last summer. My wife and I felt comfort with Harol so we decided to sign the contract and schedule a start date.
Harol and his team started the project 4 days later on President's Day (Monday). Silva Construction was prompt, dedicated, and seemed to have a sense of urgency which I loved. A large snow storm hit the area on President's Day and dumped 6 inches of snow. I assumed the project would be delayed a day because of the inclement weather. At 8:30 am on Tuesday, two Silva Construction team members drove through my snow covered alley ready to lay some tile. I was truly impressed! The entire project was complete by Thursday at 3 pm!
I will certainly use Silva Construction for future projects (I have a Sun Room project coming up in the summer). These guys are professional, prompt, and very good at what they do.
Mr. Silva came out and spent a long time doing measurements, talking about details we hadn't considered, suggesting how the tiles might be laid - we wanted a diagonal pattern. Using the tile samples we had, he made recommendations for the tile size and grout width, even the grout color. (We originally wanted a bigger 18-inch tile, but he thought the 13-inch would be better and not raise the floor level too much.) We needed a new exterior door, but ours is an older house and the door size is not standard. To special-order a door would have been quite expensive. Mr. Silva recommended cutting down the concrete threshold, which is what we ended up doing, and it saved us money. In all, he spent about an hour at the house scoping out the job. We chose him because, even though his price was higher than the other company, he was very meticulous and we had a high degree of confidence that he would do the job right. Which he did.
His team was hardworking and he kept in touch with us about any issues. There were some - Home Depot provided the wrong door, for instance. When they removed the linoleum, it turned out that in one place the floor wasn't level. That cost hadn't been figured into the estimate but he let us know how much extra it would be and we OK'd it. We did sign a contract for the overall job; Mr. Silva's proposal was extremely detailed, down to the steps of the demolition process, primer, door height, thinset, shoe molding, grout thickness and color, paint, etc. There was never a time when we did not know what each step was costing. They did the whole job in about 2 weeks, and we were extremely pleased with the result. It was all we envisioned and more. The price was higher than the other company, but so was the quality. We would gladly use this company again, and hope to.
And did: In Aug-Sept 2014, for powerwashing and sealing the wood deck, balcony, fencing; outside waterproofing; removing our old brick front walkway and installing a brick and flagstone walkway. Mr. Silva made recommendations on the flagstone color, but it turned out that the supplier (Sisler's) no longer carried it, so I met him at Sisler's one morning and we picked out a different color, which ended up looking better than the one we originally chose. He also installed low-voltage landscape lighting --we already had some path lights around the side patio but they were old and not working well, plus we wanted to install more lights in a bigger area. Mr. Silva made recommmendations as to the placement -- I'd wanted to put them all around the patio but he persuaded me that would look like the runway at Reagan Airport. His placement was much better, and we couldn't be happier.
