This is our second major project with Trans National. We were very happy with our previous project in 2011. For us, having a company that you trust will do a great job is the top priority. There wasn?t any doubt that Trans National was the best company for this new project. Just to be sure I checked up on them on Angie's List and was happy to see many other customers with very good reviews.
In 2011 they replaced four windows, a storm door on the back of the house, several transom windows, and a very large French door. The project was a big expense and relatively complex. This was a complex project that we were 100% happy with the outcome. We had one minor issue (with the door, not the installation) and they were happy to come out and for free and fix it. The windows that they installed at that time are called Simonton. We have been pretty pleased with the Simonton windows. More on this later.
We've been on their call list ever since - they are really good about not bugging you. Usually when they call, we'd say "not yet, call us in 6 months". We knew that someday we'd be ready to spend money to replace more of our windows. When they called in early November we were finally ready. We were pleased that Stephan, the same person who worked with us last time, came over to work up the estimate.
We had original wood windows in our house. Over time we'd replaced some windows downstairs (including four Simonton windows installed by Trans National). We still had 20 of the original wood windows. Many of those windows were fogged and rotting. During the cold and windy days of previous winters we could almost feel a breeze coming in. Our windows are all various sizes, some really large that don't open, a few floor to ceiling windows, etc. We worked up the pricing with Stephan and it came in pretty reasonable in our opinion. I think that we got a previous customer discount, although I'm not really sure that we got their best possible price. Because we were so happy with their work last time and the price was actually less than we expected we just signed up on the spot.
One issue that we had right away is that our house was wood wrapped by another company in 2001. Trans National didn?t have a good match of our wrap color. The samples that they showed us were not going to work for us. To their credit they worked really hard to find a nearly perfect match! Even the president of the company came over to show the samples to us and ensure that it was going to work. They went above and beyond and it made a huge difference in the result!
Our second nice surprise was that Jay came over measure. Jay ran the project in 2011 and we still remembered his incredible attention to detail. He was going to be the foreman for our window project too.
The windows arrived the day before the job and we stored them in our garage overnight. Jay and the crew came early on Saturday morning. They worked all day. The great thing about the window installation was that they put the windows in really quickly ? it was a cold day and we felt bad for them outside working all day. The hard part of the job was the wrapping and caulking around the windows. They worked all day and didn?t quite finish up. So they came back on Monday for another few hours to finish. In addition to the windows, they also put in a new storm door which is also great.
The windows that we had installed are Alside vinyl windows. They are functionally similar to the Simonton windows that Trans National installed in 2011. I am no expert on windows, but if I had to guess I?d say that the Simonton windows are better ?they seemed to be sturdier and higher quality. I asked Jay about Alside vs Simonton, remembering that Jay IS an expert. He said that the Alside windows are better. From what I?ve read online my conclusion is that the most important thing about a window is how it is installed ? on that note I think that we were wise to have had Tran National installing ours.
"Thank you for the review! We appreciate your business and please feel free to call us with any questions!"
I know how important online reviews and recommendations are. I use them religiously before considering any company or product so I am providing this review in the most unbiased way I can.
The TransNational crew and services were first class. The project manager Jay, a master mechanic and installer himself was on the job actually working the installation as well as managing a four man crew. His knowledge and experienced showed. Loved the responsiveness, professionalism and over all project outcome. The team went above and beyond and I will be contracting with TransNational again soon to continue the update work on our home.
I have to say, the support went far beyond expectation including, the communications from the in house team members, the finance team and first and foremost the work of the teams representative in our area Jeff Seidel who worked with us to put a package together that worked perfectly for us.
Would recommend the TransNational team without reservation.
"Thank you for the review! Looking forward in taking care of the other half of the project next year!"
