Alex Kim was very easy to work with, gave me excellent advice on rebuilding the pieces, and on which fabrics and leathers to choose. In the end I decided to get the fabric for the wing-back chair from a design center and supply it to Alex, but I used him to get the leather hides required to refurbish the chair. The work took about 4 weeks, pick up and delivery were no problem at all, Alex always supplied a one-hour window and showed up promptly, with help, so I didn't need to lift a finger.
The pieces look fantastic, much stronger, beautiful in fact. He did excellent work and I will be using him again. Excellent communicator, he even gave me photos of my chair as it was and quot;rebuiltand quot; in his shop. Do not hesitate.
I did find his selection of fabrics a bit limiting, as noted above, so don't be shy about getting your fabric elsewhere if you want, no pressure from Alex, he's all about the craftsmanship and bringing old furniture back to life!!

We couldn't be more pleased with the results. They performed necessary repairs and the pieces look fantastic. And now they are also sturdy again! And it only took about three weeks once they received the upholstery materials from the store where we purchased the material.

These folks are friendly, professional, and clearly know what they are doing We will use them again and highly recommend them to anyone with nice pieces they need reupholstered.

BTW, these folks also do the upholstery work for Random Harvest in Arlington, so you can swing by that shop and see their workmanship prior to using them. You will not be disappointed.

I had previously used Mt. Vernon upholstery with satisfactory results on both occasions, so I contacted them as I was gathering estimates for the reupholstery of two armchairs with my own fabric. I spoke at length with the proprietor, providing the dimenstions, condition and the precise kind of upholstery I wanted (i.e., a "waterfall" skirt"). The quoted price ($420/chair) was slightly less than other companies I'd contacted, and the transportation charges were quite a bit less, so I decided to go with Mt. Vernon. They arrived on time, but announced that the price would be $695/chair rather than the price originally quoted. The man who came to pick up the chairs indicated that he had spoken with me on the phone, but insisted that I had not told him that I wanted waterfall skirts (skirts that go to the floor, covering the chair leg). Because I'd realized from discussions with other upholsterers that this feature added considerably to the price, I was certain to mention this detail in every request for an estimate. All of the other companies had provided written estimates by fax or email, after I sent a photo and dimensions of the chairs to avoid confusion. Mt. Vernon offered only the verbal estimate. The proprietor was very rude when I insisted that I had specified the type of skirt I wanted, and refused to budge on the inflated price. I sent him on his way, knowing that all of the other companies had provided written estimates for $475/chair or less. I regretted having taken the day off work for this aggravation.

They did an excellent job. They did the work within the estimated time frame. I would highly recommend them and would use them again in the future.
