My only reservation about Moore & Wright was they were not able to tell me approximately what time the work would be done on the scheduled date... not even morning or afternoon... so I had to be available all day. Fortunately, the guys showed up around 10:00 AM or so and finished in about an hour and a half.
That being said, the workers were courteous, friendly, and did an excellent job. I liked that they checked back with me before putting all of their equipment away to make sure I was satisfied with their work. I am very happy with the results of their work and their clean-up, and would not hesitate to use them again.
These are the first few terms that come to mind: Price, attitude, experience and quality equipment. I had observed the work underway at my neighbor's home and been impressed with smooth flow of progress as huge trees were felled and removed. Then a wide variety of less demanding services were performed. One quality of true professionals is that they make the most demanding jobs seem nearly effortless. Following my exchange with Mr. Wright, some of his crew arrived and took care of my requests in short order. Everything was cleaned up and taken away (as it was at my neighbor's house) afterwards.
I should add that, on the same day, Mr. Wright accompanied me to another location to provide an estimate for tree removal work. As expected, he was thoroughly professional and I have contracted Moore & Wright to perform this work as well.
It was a genuine pleasure to do business with this company. My telephone conversations with their office staff were likewise pleasant.

Based on previous tree removal work costing around $2000 for a single tree, we were expecting the estimate to come in at $10,000 or more. We therefor expected to select only portions of the work in order to keep the cost below $10,000. We were pleasantly surprised when the estimate came in at roughly $8500, and decided to have all the work done at once. We approved all the work and were placed on the schedule for about a week and a half later. Due to the extent of the work we were having done, we expected it to take several days. It just goes to show that experienced workers with the proper tools make all the difference. On a Thursday morning, they brought in a small crane, a portable wood chipper, and stump grinder. By Thursday evening the five trees had been removed, ground up, and hauled away. The stumps and roots had been ground, and the ivy partially ground. On Friday they came and finished grinding the ivy and did a thorough clean-up. We were very impressed with how well they cleaned up after removing the trees. Our neighbors even commented that they were impressed to see the workers rake and sweep up the small amount of debris on their side of the fence
Moore and Wright did an outstanding job, and we are able to recommend them highly.
The crew was punctual and professional, and the office staff kept me informed of everything as the job date got closer. The only minor hiccup was that the crew had to come twice -- the first time, they thought they could remove the tree without shutting the power off, but that turned out not to be the case. So they rescheduled, coordinated with Dominion Power to get the power line de-energized, and came back -- all without charging me a dime more than originally estimated.
Moore & Wright is a professional, classy operation that will definitely be my first call for future tree work.
In the back of the house is a large, overgrown wooded area that went wild over the last 20+ years. Two huge trees were leaning over the house and blocking all sun and needed to be removed, there was a dead tree to remove, and just a lot of clearing up of smaller trees and brush, old stone, a rotting decorative fence, etc.
Although we started the estimate process in February, the snows kept impeding the work. In March they came out to do the silver maple. There were four guys in the tree plus a guy on a cherry-picker and another couple guys clearing the cuttings. Big crew. I was amazed at the amount they cut back. They installed three of the supporting cables between the main branches but couldn't install the fourth as they were missing on connector. They finished that job when the came later to do the back. Tree looks great.
On 11 April they came to do the back. Started about 8:30 am with a crew of 3-4 guys, and many more came later. It needed a small Cat tractor, stump grinder, and they filled up two trucks with debris. Worked straight through until almost 5:00 pm. Quite a job.
Impressed with the results and will use them again.
For this visit we wanted at a minimum to remove the large and unstable pine tree that had the potential to block two of the neighboring driveways if it fell. We identified other trees for removal. The response to our initial call for an estimate was quick and we scheduled the estimate for 3 April. The office staff is excellent. This time we worked with Maggie but everyone we've talked to is great (Tina). Ed Moore provided the estimate. Ed arrived on time for the estimate. The pine tree was a definite removal. The other two trees needed removal as one was completely dead. He asked if the one tree had been hit by lighting due to the "exit wound" on the tree. The other tree was so overshadowed by other trees it was growing like the whomping willow.
There was also a fourth tree that we wanted removed which he did for no charge as it was an "easy" removal. I also asked if the crew could remove four small trees (saplings) and take away two piles of fallen branches we had stockpiled to take to the dump. They removed those at no extra charge. The best part is that Mr. Moore provided a verbal estimate but he came back about two hours later and asked if we had any problem with the crew doing the job the same afternoon. We also had an email with the estimate and their insurance information. We agreed and the crew started arriving about two in the afternoon. My husband and I were thinking they would just get the trees down and come back the next day to finish up. Wrong! These professionals had everything done, chipped, chopped and cleaned up in about 2.5 hours.
As for price, we think it is a good deal although we did not go with other estimates since we found Moore and Wright on Angie's List initially. What I do believe is that this company does not take advantage of people who are not tree experts by pushing for unnecessary removals of trees of branches. I asked specifically about removing lower branches from another tree. He explained why it was not a good idea and did not recommend removing the branches. Overall it is great dealing with people who know their business, enjoy sharing their knowledge and provide great service.
