My house sits in the middle of a sloping street and, as a result, I have always had rain water from heavy storms collecting in my driveway and my basement.
I've hired two other companies to fix the problem in the past but neither effort has been successful.
After finding the small Landis ad in the newspaper, I decided to give him a try and could not be more pleased.
He arrived when he said he would (miracle!), designed the plan to tackle and resolve the drainage problem with a price that was fair and showed up to work as scheduled.
He even took the time to call me when he was enroute so I could make certain that my dogs were not in the yard.
The job was finished on the promised date and within budget and I could not be happier.
Mike Landis is a man of honesty, integrity and hard HARD work. He has respect for the property owner and for the environment.
I would hire him again if needed and recommend him without hesitation.
In short, I am very impressed. As he said to me, for him "this is not a job - it is a passion".

We use them pretty regularly. I am pretty happy with them. He doesn't just cut grass and he is more professional than that. He puts new plants for me. He just does general garden maintenance. I like working with him and he is very nice. His prices are a little high.

I use him all the time, and I have an ongoing contract with him for $100 a month. I was really looking for a gardener who could do gardening work to help me because I have a physical disability, but they don’t really do that kind of thing. However, I have arranged a special agreement for him to come in and do the work. He does a good job. It is hard to do very much in an hour a month, but I cannot afford more than $100 a month, so I think he is a little over priced. I would use him again in the future.

SCHEDULES APPOINTMENTS AND DOESN'T SHOW UP OR EVEN CALL WITH AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY HE CANNOT MAKE THE APPOINTMENT!!! This individual made an appointment with me over two weeks ago upon my calling to request him to come out and give me an estimate for landscaping services; i.e. a low stacked garden wall, removal of dead shrubs, addition of soil, planting, etc.  At the time, he seemed eager to get the work.  Having been cognizant of our appointment and looking forward to receiving services, I rushed home to be there for his arrival.  Five p.m. came and went.  After almost 20 minutes, I decided to call the guy.  Upon calling, the conversation went much like the following: Homeowner: "This is <homeowner name>. Is this Mike of Landis Scapes?"  Proprietor: "Yes." Homeowner: "Did you know you had a 5:00 P.M. appointment with me this afternoon?" Proprietor: "Yes." Homeowner: "So.... where are you?" Proprietor: "Sitting on my sofa relaxing after a long day." Homeowner: "Okay, thanks."  <end of call>

He came the first month on time and worked diligently for 2 hours and my husband and I were very pleased with the progress Mike made on my overgrown gardens. He pulled weeds so my husband could put down mulch. I only wish we had him more than two hours a month, but this would be too costly. There is still a lot that really needs attention. Our garden is so neglected because of my arthritis that it's going to take some concentrated work to get in under control. Then, two hours a month would work well for maintenance. We hired LandisScapes (Mike Landis) because he is a trained horticulturist, and can tell the difference between a weed and a perennial and can advise us on pruning and trimming trees and shrubs. I could hire a neighborhood kid for $10 an hour, but I would have to stand over him constantly to point out what should be pulled and what shouldn't; and he would be no help in advising proper pruning, trimming, and planting.

Saw newspaper ad and called for estimate. First meeting was lengthy and thorough, and Mr. Landis had several ideas on how to fix my drainage problems. Because of budget issues, I asked him to break it down in parts, and I would prioritize what I needed and what I could afford. It was a while (2 wks?) before he got back to me, by phone (he said I could get something written once we had decided on the work), with ideas and prices. In the meantime, I was also getting competing bids. His initial quote on a french drain system was very good, however, did not resolve the issue of getting the water out of the front yard after it was removed from the back. In subsequent conversations over the course of Feb/March, he did have some other ideas, but they involved options I didn't like - like installing a sump pump underground, which would need electrical wiring, etc. At one point in the process I asked him to send me a detailed written quote on the french drains, so that I could give a fair comparison to another company that had quoted me. He did, but seemed peeved by the request. I had a total of about 6 interactions with him over the course of 2 months, and it was mixed; there were times he seemed to be annoyed and barely holding himself back from being snippy with me. Other times he was normal. On a positive note, he did seem knowledgeable about landscaping and gardens in general, and had some good ideas and services (like a yearly maintenance plan for plants/trees). However, based on the interactions we had, I could foresee difficulties in working together. In the end I went with a company that was a bit more money, but would guarantee to get the water out by using a different approach and angle with the drains. In our final conversation when I told him this, he was pushing me to explain how, which, as I am not the expert, I could not! It almost bordered on rude. It left me feeling glad I went with the other company.

Mr. Landis was very good, he took what others considered a horrible drainage problem and solved it very simply and inexpensively and I really appreciated it. I had 3 other contractors who gave me an estimate of $1500 plus but Mr. Landis fixed it for me in $600. He fixed the problem with a greater simplicity than what the other contractors had predicted, it seemed like the others wanted to build an expensive French drain. Mr. Landis just dug a dry well, filled it with rock and did something else that seems to have fixed the problem. He is very knowledgeable and very personable. He was on time. He returned our phone calls. He showed up and finished up the work on time just as he said he would. He did the work quickly and efficiently. It couldn?t have been better.
