I From the beginning-Charlie never showed up when he said he would We are 3 weeks into the job and nothing has been completed.
2.When he did show up he would stay an hour then leave- sometimes leaving his 2 workers -who a lot of the time were unclear what to do. I would text Charlie and ask him what is going on and when was he coming back and he would either not answer me back or make some excuse .This behavior went on for weeks. The more I tried to ask him about the "time line" the more he disappeared and became even more evasive. Because I was so dependent on him I was a bit apprehensive to make too much of a fuss!
3. He rarely answered my texts in a timely manner and as of today has not returned my texts or telephone messages with regard to him finishing the job today as promised in his last text message.
4. Charlie did a less than average job of replacing screens on my back porch, used discarded wood to replace the molding and trim , stapled the wood in an uneven fashion cut the sreeen unevenly ,and replaced my screen door with storm door (not the appropriate door for a screen porch) - he sliced off the bottom of the screen door to try and accommodate the "slope of the porch" but because he put the door in backwards it just didn't fit-so he sawed off the bottom....and now I have a huge gap under the door! It appears he has no standards with regard to his craft.
5. i have 2 closets unfinished and no where to put my clothes. In all fairness the "sub" who drywalled the closets did a good job but they are unfinished!
6. I am only writing this out of frustration with the whole experience as he will not answer my calls or texts. I would warn other people to think twice before hiring this guy.

Response from Housecalls
"I have taken some time to respond to the complaint levied against me by [member name removed] because I just needed to catch my breath. I have been in business here in Alexandria City for over 5 years. Each year renewing my license, my insurance and bond in accordance with the rules of operating as a general contractor. Very little is said about what contractors have to endure at times when customers that prove to be difficult to work with and that interfere with the progress of the work agreed to. I did leave the job site unexpectedly. I certainly had not planned the move nor was I happy to make the move. I had to make a decision. I felt that it was a hostile environment and that my best decision was to order my employees to clean up and leave the job site at once. I have included some examples of the work place environment. After denying that she, [member name removed], had agreed to the more expensive railing, she bulked at the suggestion that it costs more than she agreed to. I could work that out. However, she continued to address work-in-progress items as ‘not perfect’ and ‘unexceptable’. In addition, in my absence while retrieving additional materials for the tasks at hand, [member name removed] began ordering my workers to tasks. This is not a safe idea and she placed my employees in uncomfortable situations. In addition. [member name removed] herself chose the storm door at question for the screen porch as she refused my suggestion to get a more suitable door. I did the work as understand and agreed to and yet she stepped over the line when she began directing my employees to tasks that were unsafe done alone, climbing a ladder outside the house!! it is company policy that no one climbs a ladder without proper assistance at the base of the ladder. I did over $1,700 of work in complete most of the tasks. She paid $0. Sincerely, Charles Yowell HouseCalls"

He was punctual, professional and courteous. He came back the next day to take a look at what I thought was a broken dishwasher but was actually just a pacifier wedged in the door! I couldn't ask for a more positive experience and will definitely use his services again.
