Brick work is done well, joints pointed up, and after a day of curing, steps were acid washed to clean off excess mortar. Original bricks and mortar were used where ever possible. A couple of new bricks had to be used, which don't quite match the original, but they were used in the corners where they aren't that noticeable. In a year or two, they should be indistinguishable from the rest.
I'm happy with the quality, and it was done much cheaper than three previous estimates I had gotten.
- both preliminary planning, work and adjustments on the fly went very well
His team did all the demolition of the existing work on day one. From there they started the framing. The flagstone was of good quality and the craftsmanship was top notch. Meno has a signature finish of bull nosing the edges of the flagstone stairs, and we continue to get compliments on it. Later, when we were getting bids from iron companies to put in the new railing, they all commented on the quality of the flagstone work.
If you're looking for a quality mason, call Meno Gennarione. Just be patient. He's not much of a paper guy, so you might think he's a bit scattered when he's giving you a bid. But he knows what he's doing and he comes through as promised on project dates. He is also very prompt at returning calls. Oh, and his crew is exceptionally tidy - cleaned up everyday on the job. The entire project took about 10 days total.
We will definitely contact Meno for our future brick work needs. We contacted this company as one of our last ditch efforts at finding a reasonable estimate for cost and timeliness. Most of the companies we contacted shook their heads at the DIY job and didn't seem to want to bother with what looked to be a small, yet tedious job. Meno was able to meet our needs (we needed the steps repaired within a month) and exceeded our expectations. Though he will respond to email, he seems more comfortable discussing your needs via telephone and is quick to answer and respond to inquiries.
The responed quickly with an estimate, They started soon after signing the contract. they finished and cleaned up. No issues were encountered. Other contractors contacted were slow to non responsive, hence the slightly lower price rating.
The estimate quality of the others lead to the choice so I was not able to a adequately evaluate the price. They did a great job! Great crew; they cleaned up everything at the end of each work day. They even power washed driveway oil spills from their truck.
Very responsive to changes and requests for further information on design options for patio steps from the house and also from back of patio to the yard.True craftsmen who took pride in their work and attention to detail.
Very pleased with all aspects of the process.
The owner however continued to mention how the current patio (which is beautiful and we love) was below par in stones and workmanship. These comments were not necessary or appreciated, but he continued to bring this up wherever he could in the conversation. When they completed the work, two of the flagstones were terribly wobbly. I was instructed to wet the patio daily and stand on the stones to encourage them to stablize. I called two days later to request they come out and adjust the wobbly stones, but the owner argued with me saying the only way to fix it was to use cement (The stones in our patio are not cemented, they are arranged on stone dust). He asked me to wait a couple of weeks and if it hadn't fixed itself he did offer to come out and try to fix it using cement which I did not want. After waiting a few weeks, the problem was the same. I finally fixed the stones myself by lifting them and rearranging the dust until they were stable which took about an hour to get it the way I wanted. In the end the new area blends in perfectly and is exactly what we wanted, but I will not use Flagstone & Brickworks again nor recommend them.
