My fiancé & I contacted Zack at DMV Home Design to redo the floors & base boards on the first floor of our home. He was very prompt at providing us with an estimate, friendly and professional. We’re extremely pleased with the renovations. Our home looks amazing! Would definitely recommend and use again in the future. Thanks again Zack!

This was a complicated project. There were 8 units that needed fully remodeled simultaneously. This project also included carpeting multiple common area corridors. DMV Home Design handled all aspects of the project including demo, design, drywall, flooring, painting, kitchen layout and design, framing and all types of finishes. They are priced competitively and stand behind their work. They are very dependable, and I would use them again for sure. They also handled parquet floors for me on another project and did beautiful work.

Zack was our project manager. He was superb. Zack was always on time, for every single meeting . He was knowledgeable about every question I had and always so easy to work with. Every phone call was returned immediately. Every single problem I had with my condo I was selling was fixed and the work was beautiful ! I was so thrilled with the results ! My condo was placed on the market and sold the first day it was shown ! I truly believe it was because of the exquisite renovations done by Zack and DMV !!! I am about to start a new project with Zack at my house in the Palisades . I am very excited !

While the wood refinishing was fine, the shoe molding was not fine--gap between the floor and door frame and incorrect placement of room diving molding--the latter looked fine but was in the wrong place because I was not consulted first because the crew was in a hurry. Communication with me by the project manager was inadequate--in was in the dark most of the time about the plans and also resulted in me having to cancel overnight hotel reservations (to avoid the toxicity of the polyuretane) twice.

Chose specific sound insulating underlay for floor but realized only after that they did not install the ordered underlay. They ran short of floor boards and tried to change the pattern mid way to complete the project - had to stop them mid way to complain! They chopped off a huge chuck of a door bottom to put in the wood leaving a 3/4 inch gap. Prevented them to repeat the same on other doors! The tile layer did not know what he was doing. Dominion must have picked him off the street. The tiles were laid unevenly and now I am stuck with them as they are. Grout is think and got dirty overnight. The labor for the tile lay was waived after I complained and another tiler came to confirmed the shoddy job.

We have commented on this previously. This contractor did not do a proper job on laying an artificial tile kitchen floor. Now we have cracks and pops and will have to re-do the entire floor in the near future. I have not pursued them for repairs because I am sure they are not competent to make the floor right.

Sam was excellent at "selling" his services - but that's where the excellence stopped. The lower level floor scratched almost immediately after the job, and repeatedly thereafter. The floors were much more fragile than prior to Old Dominion's work. Secondly, they did not repair the stairs at all. Upstairs, they did a poor job repairing the original pine floors. The replaced the pine with oak in the upstairs hallway and used some of that flooring to repair the bedrooms. However, they left large gaps that were so big, even the baseboard and shoe molding could not cover it - gaps as large as nearly an inch. There was plenty of the original, undamaged pine left, but the workers did not use it. We questioned it prior to staining but the workers insisted that the gaps would be covered by baseboards. Since we had to leave the house during the staining and polyurethane process, we did not see the floors again until the job was done. Despite my many attempts to reach Sam, he suddenly because unavailable. He promised to remedy the issue, but that day never came. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

The salesman came out and told me to refund the deal with Angie's List and he would give me the same deal directly. Little did I know that I would loose my protection from Angie's List since I was not using the deal. Initially it went well. They laid the new flooring at a 45 degree angle and it looked great. It was installed in December and I was very happy with the install. I went on vacation and when I came back in June the floor was a mess. The veneer was peeling off of the planks and they did not want to help me even though the work was under warranty. Now they will not return my calls.

I saw Dominion carpet being very highly rated on Angie's list, and that's why I had them come in and give me a quote. Joey Garzon was great, he came in, and gave me the best quote, and seemed very professional and enthusiastic. The work was performed promptly and we moved into the townhome in July 2015. We only use the upper two levels of our townhome so everything was okay till one day in December, I noticed in my basement that the laminate flooring was not properly installed at the corners (I wish I could attach some pictures with this review). So I texted Joey around January to ask him to come fix the flooring. On his directions, I called the main office and some guy named Sam answered. He asked me what the issue was, and I explained it to him. He said, he would get back to me in 2 days. He never called me back for 7 days. Then I texted him to ask what was going on. He replied, "has there ever been a flood in your basement". I told him I have a walkout basement that can't ever be flooded. And I have only lived there 7 months, and if there was flood, you would also see other damages. Then he disappeared again. I contacted him again today, after about a month of that text exchange. I asked him what was going on. He said that "his guys" saw the pictures I had sent and they believe it is not a natural damage and I had somehow damaged the floor. He was basically calling me a liar, and saying he won't do any repairs on the floor (even though his company has a so called 1 year guarantee). When I told him that I am very disappointed in his service and I will take him to the BBB, he turned extremely rude. He said "go to whoever the F***" you want.. Well, I will Mr. Sam. But I wanted to let the world know of the shady business you are running here. I regret having referred you to a couple of my friends. I wish I could somehow attach the pictures of the bad flooring work that you have done along with my receipt and stuff. These guys may be able to provide a very good deal on flooring, but the quality of their work sucks, and of course their customer relationship is just non-existent. They are extremely unprofessional and unreliable. I would never recommend this business to anyone!

The price was pretty good. There was a mixup with the grout, they put the wrong color grout and then when they came back, they tried to just replace the grout without replacing the tile, which has held up fairly well, and it was a brand new product, but I wouldn't use the product. It wasn't their fault. They installed the wrong color because they didn't realize it. They are fine, and I used them again, but they weren't great.

I had a great experience with Dominion Carpet.  I worked directly with Sam on the estimate; he was super friendly and responsive, showed a clear commitment to customer satisfaction.  Sam was very accommodating about scheduling, too.  My great experience continued once work got underway and was completed.  All of the work is and looks terrific.  When I noticed one tiny issue -- some small marks on a wall along the staircase, presumably from moving the sander upstairs (a tricky task with a narrow staircase) -- and brought it to Sam's and Sophea's attention, they immediately addressed the issue to my satisfaction.  No haggling, no request for photos or other proof, just trust and a clear commitment to making sure I was satisfied.  I would happily use Dominion Carpet again.

If we could give Dominion Carpet more than 5 stars we would. Had the opportunity to work with Joey Garzon and his crew, Juan, Roman and Kevin. These guys know what the word service is. Joey came to assess the work, provided us with an estimate (the same day) on refinishing (sand, stain, and finish) our floors, baseboards and shoe moulding. We were able to schedule the start date within a week (could had done it earlier but we had delays with our General contractor). We had to rescheduled our appointment due to more delays on our contractor, but Joey was very accommodating and understanding. Joey diligently addressed all our concerns and patiently awaited on us to make decisions (shoe moulding or no shoe moulding).
Overall, we are very pleased with the job done  and professionalism of Joey and his crew. Our floors look brand new and the guys did exactly what he had asked. Thank you, Dominion Carpet for the outstanding customer service!

As a now retired contractor (with an "A" rating on Angieslist!), I know how hard it is for projects to progress smoothly from conception to completion.  While I am satisfied with most of the installation, there were HUGE mis-steps along the way.

Joey (sales guy) was extremely quick to respond for estimate request.  I know what my personal tastes are but I really know nothing about what is popular and stylish in the marketplace now and as I explained to Joey ,since I am getting my house ready to sell,  I wanted to appeal to the broadest audience of potential home buyers.   This was a mistake on my part trusting that he would give honest advice as a flooring professional.  There was no problem with the recommendations for the hardwood and carpet in the upstairs area.  I was a little skeptical about his recommendation for the laminate in the downstairs hallway and kitchen for the in-law suite, but as he put it, "THIS IS WHAT WE CALL PART OF OUR GET IT SOLD NOW PRODUCTS THAT ALL THE REALTORS, HOME BUYERS AND FLIPPERS ARE LOOKING FOR IN A HOME".  Based on this statement, I agreed to it.

After installation, I went to the manufacturers website (Anderson Wood) to register the product for warranty administration in case there was ever a problem only to find out that the specific laminate that had been installed was DISCONTINUED last year.  As a former sales person myself, I know there is a fine line between extolling the virtues of your product and simply lying to get rid the product.   I firmly believe that line was clearly crossed in this situation.

Other areas of concern with the installation was scheduling.   As planned, Juan the crew leader that was going to do the installation delivered the materials in advance on Wednesday to familiarize himself with the site and see if I had any particular concerns.  Dominion Carpets "normal"  plan is take the trim plate off the bottom front of the dishwasher, run the hardwood as close as possible to the dishwasher (and oven), then re-install the trim plate.  Unless you install one board under the adjustable front legs of the appliance, you will never be able to remove and replace that appliance without ripping up 2-3 floor boards. The installer agreed to do it so I felt much better knowing the same guys were coming back on Friday and probably complete the entire job in one day, but if needed would come back Saturday to finish.  Friday rolls around, Juan calls and postpones until Saturday but promises to come back Sunday if needed.

Saturday comes, Ruben and his crew (not Juan and crew) show up so I had to review the entire project with him including the board under the dishwasher drill.  They got maybe halfway done, and at about 4PM packed up and said "See you Monday".   My head about exploded, contacted Joey and he said he would get the crew to return on Sunday.  Sunday morning Juan and his crew arrive to pickup where Ruben and his crew left off.  By 2PM they ran out of materials and packed up and left saying they would be back Monday to finish.  Monday rolls around and here comes Ruben and his crew with additional materials to finish up.

I really can't say enough about how well the crews worked and what an outstanding job they did.  They did break a ceramic tile putting in the threshold to the bathroom but I am not overly concerned because I am replacing the tile in that room anyway, but it would have been nice for someone to fess up and bring it to my attention instead of just leaving it for me to find.  Otherwise it was a good group of workers that generally did great work but I feel bad for them that they don't have better leadership.  I sincerely believe trust and integrity start at the top and filters down through the ranks.  If the workers see the boss "stretching the truth", cutting corners underestimating material needs, not following through on promises, etc it can really impact the performance of the group.

Bottom line is if you choose to do business with Dominion Carpet, Alexandria, VA, be careful.  There are a lot.... and I mean ALOT... of choices for flooring providers out there from which to choose.  I simply really resent the misrepresentation of the product as being "what customers really want" as opposed to "well actually, the manufacturer sold so little or there were so many problems with it we quit making the stuff!" When you invite people into your house for extended periods, trust is everything and if the trust is broken, it doesn't matter how good were the prices, how great was the rest of the products, and how great the crew performed.

We were very pleased with Dominion Carpets. Joey came to our house several times to help determine what needed to be done and he provided fair and detailed cost estimates. Due to personal reasons we had to reschedule the week-long job; Dominion made this happen with little effort. Three separate teams came out to do the work; each did a fantastic job.  The hardwood floors in the house look great.

I was assured before work began that boards would be taken up near a removed L shaped wall and moved so that there was no noticeable lines of demarcation between the two previously separate rooms (which were not exactly parallel) and that all new boards would be located under the new island that would be located in the middle (exact drawings were available) to make sure that all visible wood grain would match.

This was where most of my problems took place. There was rarely a senior person on site while the work was taking place only two men who didn't speak any English. At least they pretended not to speak any English because when I spoke Spanish to them which I could tell they were surprised about they just ignored most of what I said or me entirely. They began by not wanting to pull up the boards at all and just trying to place them in the L shaped gap that was left by the L shaped wall. When I said no, they ignored me, but then told me the existing boards would break. However my electrician was around and after I was done showing them the first time how to pull up the boards efficiently without breaking them I had to go attend to something else and he said they immediately when my back was turned just started haphazardly breaking them. So I got down on my hands and knees and for a couple of hours I pulled up the boards quite easily(I weigh 120 btw) without breaking any. They were very rude and clearly did not like to be told how anything should be done by a woman.

My other problem was with the staining and the lack of desire to apply the stain according to the directions. After the first part was done I had to go back over the room to deal with spots where they clearly had not applied enough stain. Unfortunately I could not be there when the other half was done because there was an emergency elsewhere, so this is where the continued problems occurred which I will try and include photos of. The discoloration between the 2 halves of the floor is quite noticeable also in an area where they didn't seem to level the floor properly it still looks very rough.

I had to call them and email them a number of times after completion without any response. I had to have my father call eventually and they listened to him and said they would fix it in the future when I wanted. I waited over a year because I was so upset about how I had been treated by the workmen and in the hopes that they would no longer work there when I finally had the repairs done. However when I did go back and ask for the original issues to be fixed they responded but refused to do anything about the issues.

Sale manager explained the process and options for refinishing the floors. Within days his crew came out and proceeded to make sure that the rooms and closets that were not done, sealed from the dust created from sanding. When done they cleaned up and left the rooms spotless. These floors have not been touched in over 50 years and now they look beautiful.

Both were extremely large and time consuming jobs.  I felt that the price was very competitive and they were very professional about the services performed.  Joey was available to answer any of my (many) questions, and he was very honest and upfront about the price and what would be done.  Two things that I was especially impressed with were that when we initially had our carpet stair runner replaced we didn't realize that a few months down the road we would then decide to change the color of the floor, which meant that we needed to remove the stair runner and stain the stairs.  Instead of charging me again for the installation, he removed that from the price of the job.  Additionally, there were a few areas on the hardwoods that I requested that they come back to adjust, and they promptly did so in order to ensure that everything was perfect.  I knew that having things 100% to my liking was their ultimate goal, and that type of relationship with a contractor is exactly what you need, especially when you are spending this kind of money.  Speaking of the price, I thought it was well worth it - it was a HUGE space and the banister itself must have taken forever to do because it is very large and had to all be sanded by hand.  Thank you Dominion Carpet for the wonderful job you did.  We absolutely love our "new" floors.
