Damon Buchmoyer

Description of Work: This man came to my house with my neighbor, whom I have know for some time. He said that he had gone to high school with Damon (now in his 40s) and he had done some good work for him, and I could trust him as he did remodeling. I am newer to the area, and he came in and gave me an estimate to do some tile work, and opening a doorway in my bathroom. He was ready to start right away, but I said that I needed to still pick out the tile, and I asked him for some pictures of work he had done in the past as well of references for work he had done on baths. (The work he did on my neighbor's house was a fence.) This was on a Saturday and he said he would get them to me the first of the week, and to go ahead and pick out the tile. I asked him where to go for the tile as some contractors prefer to work with different dealers and he said he would get back to me. He asked me for a good faith check of $1000 to retain his services....dumb me. Bottom line, he was always "going to get back to me" - and he never provided any of the above. We were supposed to meet the next Friday morning at the dealer he said, and 15 minutes before we were to meet, he called and said that he had to pick up his kids at school and would not be able to meet me and to go ahead and go to the tile store, which I did - only to find out that you needed to be there with your contractor, and they did not deal with walk-ins. Could not find out any info, pricing, etc. I work full-time and I had taken special time to get this done. Since I had not gotten any of the info I had requested, and he did not show for the first appointment, I called him and said that this was not satisfactory, and while I realized how tough it was to be a single parent, if you were going to have a business, you needed to make sure that you kept your appointments, and also, since he lived in Maryland, and I in Alexandria, the traffic and being able to keep on schedule may be problematic. I said I would like him to return my money. He started screaming at me on the phone and threatened to sue me for everything that I had if I said one bad thing about him. I told him to just return the money. He said he would when he was good and ready. That was April 8, 2011 and as of today, June 10, I have yet to see a dime. He has had one excuse after another, saying the first of May, the end of May -etc. I have written him several times to request, and he accuses me of harrassing him.....give me back the money and I will quit calling. Interestingly enough - after I went back to my neighbor to tell him what happened, he admitted that he had not seen Damon for 20 years, and all of the sudden one day he just called him and asked for work.
