Joe and his crew are nothing but courteous and professional. My husband was at the house supervising carpet installation, and I was at the apartment supervising the move and keeping our cat out of the way. Joe and his men engaged me in conversation and interacted with the cat, which I really appreciated. They always treat your furniture very carefully, wrapping all pieces in cloth and plastic wrap to keep it from scratching or getting damaged.
One note I would keep in mind is that they only accept cash - so make sure you go to an ATM before hand.
We are definitely planning to use Brown Moving in the future for our next move. Thank you Joe!
experience. I dealt with the owner (Joe Brown) and he was very responsive by phone and email. The company offers a flat rate move which was amazing for me since most bigger companies charge by the pound. I found the price to be very fair.
Joe called the day before to confirm the move again, then called the morning of the move letting me know he was on the way. Him and his crew showed up about 15 minutes early which gave me assurance this was going to be a good day. They packed carefully and thoroughly taking care with my furniture and my house. I was moving from the DC area to Philadelphia and this was
the most stress free move ever. This was the perfect move until we go to Philly and the elevator in my building was not working. Joe and his guys were not happy, but you'd never know it! They brought my stuff up 4 floors via the steps until the elevator was fixed without a word of complaint. I thought for sure Joe would say that there would have to be an extra charge. Alas, he said nothing of the sort.
I am a pretty critical person and all I can do is rave about Brown Moving! I cannot think of one negative thing to say. If all moves could go this smooth, everyone would be so happy. This was the BEST find on craigslist I have ever made and I am VERY grateful to Joe Brown and the crew for such a fine job!
His colleague was Casper Moving, who showed up with an unprepared crew (no ladder trucks, or tools) and they ended up severely damaging a wooden bureau (Thomas Casper's quote when he saw the photo of the damage, "It looked like a dog chewed the furniture"). Needless to say, Casper Moving is unreliable and has yet to fully pay for the agreed upon damage to the furniture (months of phone calls and promises from him to pay it). Brown Moving is good, but make sure it is Brown Moving, and not one of the people he passes you off to.
"Hello Member, Sorry that happened to you. We get booked pretty quick and I didn't know that Casper movers damaged your belongings. I will make sure that I will not pass along any more work to them. Again, sorry that this happened to you and that we couldn't move you ."
I've used Brown Moving twice. My first move went relatively smoothly, but this recent move was a mess. His team left a number of items at my old apartment which forced me to make seven trips back and forth from my old apartment to my new one. While he claimed they were miscellaneous items, they were in fact, substantial (a large vacuum cleaner, lamps, several boxes). His team damaged a valuable piece of furniture by placing a mirror on top of it and scratching it. When I asked him to come and hang the mirror in order to avoid further damage (and did not ask him to fix the damaged furniture because it would be so expensive to do so) he said he was going to ask his movers as to whether they had indeed damaged the dresser. He clearly didn't understand the configuration of the dresser and the mirror (they are two separate pieces and he both spoke and wrote that he would have to assemble it to the dresser) and I told him that I didn't think there was real incentive for his staff to admit to damaging the furniture -- no one would reasonably do that in a "he said, she said" scenario where the financial consequences are significant. He assured me that his guys would tell him the truth and that he would get back to me. He then wrote me a condescending and nasty email and did nothing to follow up or accommodate me eventhough I simply asked him to hang the mirror rather than fix the scratches that had been left there.
He never offered me a contract to sign (we put the amount in writing by email) and claimed that I needed to assess and alert him to damage within 24 hours of my move and that he was not responsible for "incidental effects" left in the apartment; I was never put on notice about either assertions. While his team was punctual, his prices were far lower than others I had encountered, and they did a reasonably good job of avoiding the walls in my new apartment while moving sizeable pieces, my correspondence and interactions with him subsequent to the move were very frustrating and disturbing. He simply did not complete the move, and he did not do anything to accommodate the difficulties I encountered as a result of his work. I would not recommend this company to others.
"In response to the ( one and only ) false review on Angies List. The member is sadly mistaken. She asked my guys to put the mirror face down on a dresser and my guys replied, it would be better to lay it face down on the bed until the painters finish their work. She then said it will be fine so my guys complied. NOTHING WAS DAMAGED! The job was completed so we left. She then sent me an email 2 days later saying that we scratched the top of the dresser. What really happened is the painters bumped up against the mirror and she blamed it on us. Now she said instead of fixing the scratch on the dresser she would like for me to hang some wall pictures for free. How does that sound?? Lets see, get some pictures hung for free or get my so called expensive dresser fixed?? I would rather get my dresser fixed if it were true. Shehad a lot going on that day. We charge one fixed rate for an accurate list of items. She added to her list and she didn't want to pay for it. That is not how we work. I am fair with my price and ALWAYS professional. Just take a look at other reviews on Angies, google, craigslist, yelp ect.. You will see that we are highly recommended all over. In closing, she said something to me that I thought was offensive. She told me that she didn't know why I chose the moving industry for a profession. Clearly she is immature and not very professional. I don't see how she became an attorney with that attitude and I feel sorry for her. I have NEVER had a customer like her. People understand that moving is a hard job and someone has to do it. I have mastered it and I love!! Thank you, Mr. Brown"
