1. If you are replacing windows and at the same time you are ordering shutters...Do not measure for shutters until AFTER your windows are installed. We had a close call...I ordered the shutters at the same time as the windows and thought all the spacing would work out. We talked with the window installers and the person who measures for the wondows and thought everything would work out. The shutters barely fit. I didn't realize this was a big risk. It is much better to order coverings after the windows are installed. The big drawback to this is having uncovered windows for 2 months. 2. If you have a special circumstance with a particular set of windows....write down what you agreed to do with that situation so you both understand what the agreement was. Two months is a long time to remember what you verbally agreed. We had a situation where the window sill in 4 windows had a ledge. He ordered the shutters to accomodate that ledge. We called the day or two before installation to ask if we needed to cut off the ledge because we couldn't remember. We understood that the ledges were to be cut off. When he installed the shutters without the ledge, it didn't look right. It took 2 months to order parts to make the shutter look right again. That was a problem for both of us. He did everything possible to fix the shutter to our satisfaction. This situation could have been avoided had we written down the agreement whether to keep the ledge or not.
