My husband called the phone number on the sign he saw on 2300 East.  The owner answered.  My husband was delighted because he was able to take a picture of our stump with his phone and text it to him to get a bid.  He told us it would be $100 and that he could do it today.  I gave him a "B" for punctuality because I never really knew what time today he would be over but that was partly because I never communicated directly with him, it was through my husband.  But the fact that we could call in the morning and have the stump gone by dinner was really great, especially for the price.  When the owner arrived we went to the stump together and he asked me how deep the hole needed to be.  We were not planting another tree so we just needed it flush with the ground.  He had the stump removed in 10 minutes and the wood chips raked up in 5 minutes.  I gave him a "B" for professionalism because he didn't give me a receipt.  I thought a receipt would definitely be more business-like.  But the whole process was just very fast and straight-forward and I liked that.  At the end, after I had handed him my check he looked me in the eye and said, "Thank you for the work."  I liked that.  We have removed 5 different stumps in our backyard just using shovels, pick axes and our own sweat and grit and I am never going back.  It is definitely worth the $100 we paid him to come with his specialized equipment to remove that stump.
