He has cleaned our Persian rugs, which we would not trust to anybody but Bryan. Not only does Brysn do a fantastic job cleaning carpets, but he also does repair to carpets. Some of our carpet edges had been coming loose, and the carpet in several of the rooms of our house had to be cut and restretched and refitted, which Bryan did a fantastic job on. So repairing carpets is another one of the many things that he can do in addition to cleaning. Bryan also cleaned our tile floors and did a fabulous job. He has the highest quality of carpet cleaning equipment and is efficient, professional, friendly, knowledgeable, reliable, and very familiar with all types of rugs, carpets, and tile Thank you Bryan for doing such a great job all the time!"

"They are so responsive, personable, and very communicative. I loved my experience with Potter & Sonâ s. The quality of workmanship and attention to detail was like no other. I loved that I could take my time in deciding what to do, and with all of them to answer every single question I had. Once I ordered the materials they communicated with me throughout the process. Then when the project started they made sure to check my concerns and would not leave the project till it was completed. They do more than just your basic floors. Going to their showroom is a must as you will get to work through their creative mind. This is the nicest family you will meet. Easiest to work with. Plus the quality for the price is unmatched. I highly recommend working with Kade and the team. Glad I found such a great small business I could work with! I look forward to a long lasting relationship with this business."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Deciding whether to clean or replace your carpet depends on its condition and age. If cleaning no longer resolves issues, it's time to consider a replacement. Key signs that you need to replace your carpet include:

  • Stains that are impossible to remove.

  • A persistent smell that lingers even after cleaning.

  • An increase in allergy symptoms.

  • The age of the carpet. Most manufacturers state that carpets should last about 10 years with proper care.

When cleaning is no longer effective, you should replace the carpet with a new one or consider other flooring options like vinyl or laminate.

The difference between a 40-oz. and 60-oz. carpet is the carpet face weight, meaning the 60-oz. carpet weighs 20 ounces more per square yard. When looking at two similar carpets of the same material and type, the 60-oz. carpet face weight likely indicates higher quality and more durability due to heavier carpet fibers.

Yes. When installed properly, the strong adhesive on carpet tiles keeps them in place while also allowing homeowners the flexibility to peel up an individual tile and replace it if they need to. It’s important to keep in mind that the adhesive on your carpet tiles may take some time to cure, so it’s best to leave them alone for a couple of days after you first install them.

While it is possible to install carpet yourself, it is a challenging DIY project that requires precise measurement, proper cutting skills, and knowledge of correct installation techniques. The process involves multiple steps, including removing old flooring, installing underlayment and tack strips, and stretching the carpet to prevent wrinkles, which can take several days to complete.

Before starting, consider these factors:

  • Warranty: Many manufacturers' warranties are voided if the carpet is not installed by a professional.

  • Tools: You will need to buy or rent specialized equipment like a knee kicker, carpet stretcher, and seam roller.

  • Complexity: DIY installation is most suitable for simple, straightforward rooms. Projects involving stairs or floor vents are significantly more difficult.

  • Cost: While you can save on labor, the cost of tools plus the risk of expensive mistakes—which may require re-installation—can make hiring a professional more cost-effective in the long run.

Given the potential for errors, voided warranties, and the need for special tools, hiring a local carpet installer is often recommended to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

Carpet density refers to how closely together the fibers of a carpet are stitched into the carpet backing, with values ranging from 1,000 to 7,000. A carpet density value of 3,000 or higher is considered best for most homes, especially in high-traffic areas, such as a living room or dining room. If you’re comparing two carpets made of the same material, a higher carpet density can indicate better durability and longevity. However, carpet density is only one of many factors that can help you determine a carpet’s quality.
