"It is always disappointing to hear a review from an unsatisfied customer. We recognize that we cannot please everyone, but we do try our best. Unfortunately it seems that there must have been some lack of communication or clarity when we dealt with [member name remove]. We were under the impression that, at the completion of work and payment, she was satisfied with our work and there were not any issues. We were surprised to see this review from her. That is why we felt it important to follow up this review with a few important additional comments. 1. The customer was informed that all employees, aside from Adam, were coincidentally taking vacations at the same time. Because this was such a small job, Adam did not deem it necessary to wait for them to return. Therefore, rather than postpone the job for another week, he did complete the job on his own, and it did take longer than the originally quoted 1 day. This did not seem to be a problem at the time the customer was informed of it. 2. The original quote was based on the customer having enough brick on hand to complete the repair. When it was found that there was not enough, another brick was offered and accepted by the customer at no additional cost. And, at the time, the customer did not seem to have any problem with the brick offered. 3. As to the ability of our company to handle jobs larger than a repair of three chimneys, we must set it straight that we are very capable of handling jobs ranging from small repairs to large residential projects. We are the primary brick mason for one of the larger home builders in Utah, and pride ourselves on our quality and performance. If additional help is needed on a job, we hire accordingly and add that cost into our bid. If we are doing small repairs, such as this one, we do not hire an entire crew because that would not be cost effective for our business. Again, we are sorry that we did not meet the satisfaction of [member name remove]. We had a great business experience dealing with her. She paid us promptly and was very easy to work with."
I called for 3 bids; AAR Masonry was the lowest, 33% lower than the highest bid, and 10% lower than the next highest. In the bid process the owner, Adam, thoroughly explained to me what he was planning to do. He took pictures of my house to ensure there was design compatibility since it would be right in front on my house. Neither of the other two bidders did that. I felt that Adam asked all the right questions, which made me feel that he was the right guy for the job. So I awarded the bid to Adam.
Glad I did. The first problem we ran into was that the brick on my house was no longer available, the company had gone out of business. Adam spent considerable time trying to find the next best brick. I really appreciated his thoroughness. He selected several, then brought them to my house for me to choose. I'm not sure either of the other two bidders would have done that.
Also, Adam's technical knowledge impressed me. He showed me that there is a front and a back to the brick, different sizes of brick, slight differences in patterns, and other details, that all make a difference and that should be taken into account when doing a professional masonry job.
Adam completed the work in two days; one day for laying the foundation and footing, and a second day to do the rest. He was quick, punctual, thorough, and friendly. I would definitely select Adam again to do any masonry job.
He started with a quick look at the remains of the old mailbox and gave us a professional written bid
He warned us the the company that made the old brick was out of business so getting an exact match would be impossible.
Next he came back with the closest brick matches he could find to let us choose.
On the day he came to do the work we (Adam and I) discovered that the bricks he brought were actually our second choice.
He insisted on going back to brickyard to exchange them with no pressuring at all to use the ones he had.
I would have insisted that he get the correct ones, but it's really nice that I didn't need to.....
