I wish I had read other reviews before deciding to work with James. He has been the worst contractor I have ever worked with. We started a project in mid-November. I was promised it would be done before thanksgiving. He was physically here only a fraction of the time. His workers weren’t given proper leadership or direction. He was unresponsive and when he did respond there was always some catastrophe for an excuse. These photos show what he left behind as he went on a trip to Hawaii and then never returned to my house. He left equipment and tools in my house (even though we agreed the job would be done and everything cleaned up by thanksgiving so that I could decorate my house for Christmas) and a bucket of all the hardware to put the doors back up. He left broken and damaged items in the house. I paid him half up front (which is normal) but then he asked for more before the job was complete. I paid him an additional $2500 because he said he needed to make payroll and wanted to pay his guys before the thanksgiving holiday. I realize now he just wanted to fund his trip to Hawaii so that was a huge mistake on my part. He didn’t return to finish the job or retrieve his stuff until February. I gave him chance after chance after chance to do the right thing and complete the job (because I knew I would never get my money back from him and it would cost me so much to have someone else come in and fix the horrible quality and unfinished work). He came back in February and I was duped into believing he was sincere that he wanted to finish the job and fix the quality and broken things. He swore he was committed to doing better but it was immediately apparent that was not the case. He spent the better part of two days either gone or sitting in his car in my driveway looking at his phone - he got about an hours worth of work done in those two days. I finally told him it was time to part ways and he grabbed all his stuff and screeched out of my driveway- like a true professional. Now I have broken lights to fix, damaged wood from an attempt to clean up paint blops, damaged grout around decorative pebbles (his worker got paint into the grout and after it sat for so long it was so hard to get out that he just scraped off the grout and left it looking worse than before - now I need to have it regrouted), a couch to clean from his dirty furniture cover, need to hire an electrician to fix the undercounter lights (he was given permission to remove one of the lights but he just snipped the wires in such a way that all the lights don’t work now), and lots of areas to finish that were never painted and other areas that need to be redone because of problems or poor quality. Please, please beware before you hire him.

James and all his workers did a fantastic job painting our Tudor style 1920's brick house. The old wooden window frames needed considerable work and we appreciated the attention to detail provided by James on both the preparation and the painting. In addition, James was willing to help us with several smaller jobs in the yard. We highly recommend this company and they will be our first choice for all our future paining needs. Thank you

James and his team did another fantastic job. We had previously had them paint the interior of our home. That went so well that we also had them paint the exterior of our home. Our house is stucco and had not been painted in over 20 years. James and his team were able to take care of all the cracks and make the house look like it was brand new. They used as many coats as necessary to make it look perfect. Many thanks to this talented team. They are on time, trustworthy, and thorough. All lights and fixtures are removed for painting and then replaced. They also replaced any burnt out bulbs and spray painted the sconces so that they would look brand new. We are very pleased, and will now have James and his team refinish our deck as well.

James is a fantastic painter! I am so impressed by his professionalism and down-to-earth matter. James returned my call the same day I first reached out to him. He came out the next day to provide a bid. I wanted the entire interior of a 3200 square foot home painted, including the ceilings. We also had some damage to walls and wanted all of that repaired along with some float tape and nail pops. James gave great advice on potential colors while still leaving the final decision up to me. We agreed upon a start date. Because I was going to be out of town for part of the job, he provided a lock box on our door. James was able to do some prep work early and then his crew was at the house right on schedule the first day. What a great team he has. They are careful to label all light fixtures, draperies, blinds, etc as they take them down. They helped us move several items to the basement to clear the way for the painting. They put paper down on all the floors. The painting took several days because we have a huge house, but moved right along. Throughout the process, James was great at communicating progress and reaching out if he had any questions or if issues appeared. The house looks amazing! Even better, as the paint crew put everything back together, they made sure that I had working bulbs in every light and new batteries in every smoke detector. I highly recommend James and his team. James is on site every day with his team and is committed to high quality work. We have already hired him again for the entire exterior of our home as well and the refinishing of our deck.

James and his team did a great job which is always the primary concern. But they went beyond expected service. We were never unable to use our kitchen. They covered everything with plastic and would roll it up when they left. They swept, dusted and mopped every afternoon when they left. We have lots of large furniture and they carefully moved it and replaced it perfectly. Since he took down all lighting fixtures, he offered to replace new ones if we wanted any replaced (we replaced all of them). He even shoveled my driveway one morning before I left for work. I will call James again for any further painting done.

READ THIS REVIEW. I used to be a professional painter, starting out as a journeyman in California many years ago, then painted for many years with my own company, painting custom homes. So I am about as demanding and perfectionist a customer you’d ever meet. When i interviewed James for the job I got a sense that he knew what he was doing, and boy was I right. There were no surprises, no miscommunications, no errors. James was a great help in choosing colors, and knowledgeable about all things paint. Every member of the crew’s brushwork and finish work were excellent, including some wall repair and refinish. James and his entire crew were punctual, efficient, wonderfully helpful, and in every way professionals you want to trust with your home.

Arrived on time, job finished on time and on budget. Quality of work rocks! The crew didn't waste time, went right to work and finished 1/2 day ahead of plan. Touch-up work on other areas was also taken care of. This is the 3rd time I've hired James and I wouldn't consider anyone else to help me paint my home.

Excellent work. Clean, exceptional job. There were huge holes left in the walls from where the previous owner had hung heavy mirrors and mounted TV's to a wall. You can't see where the holes were. I'd definitely hire them again and would definitely refer them.

The painter was great, very prompt and courteous. He did a fantastic job. Will definitely hire again.

James told us what he was going to do, he did what he said he was going to do and then told us all that he had done. James also did some minor handyman work. The paint job was excellent. James was punctual and professional. His team was careful and cleaned up any paint that was on the baseboards. We plan on hiring Distinguished Painting stain the outside of our house next year.

Very fast, efficient, was very friendly and easy to contact. He used the highest quality paints. Very happy!

James and his team at Distinguished treated the project as if it was their own home, providing high quality work, while helping save money where we could. Projects were done well, quickly and managed my expectations. Patched several large holes in drywall as well as did baseboard work.

James was professional, courteous, and communicated clearly. He and his crew arrived at the time they said they would each day and they finished the job ahead of schedule. We are extremely pleased with their service.

James and his team at Distinguished Painting did an excellent job and I would recommend Distinguished Painting to anyone. We had a very difficult and involved job and they did a great job of making sure everything was done very well. James is very meticulous and ensures the final product looks great. Our house looks great thanks to the hard work they put in. James also went the extra mile in replacing our flood lights and doing a few other items in our home when he noticed them. He communicated well so we knew what to expect and provided us updates regularly which was very much appreciated. James and his team were also very proffessional and respectful to our family throughout the project.

When we initially contacted James for an estimate and chose to use his company to paint our house, he estimated we were 3-4 weeks out on the schedule. We were totally fine with that as our project was no rush. However, we lucked out because another customer of his wasn't ready to move forward on their project, so James contacted us and asked if we'd like to get started within that first week. They started on Friday and were finished by the following Wednesday (without working the weekend). The guys were on time or early every day, they were extremely courteous and fun to have around. They were respectful of our time, our space and making sure our dog never got let out of the house. At the end of each day, they cleaned up so nicely that we never felt displaced in any of our rooms. They answered all of our questions as they came up, and James was always available and was on top of all the details. James also offered tips and suggestions on some of our other upcoming projects and even offered to help with some of them. He also fixed the hinge on one door that wasn't hanging correctly, which was great. On the second to last day of work, they'd cleaned up the basement so well that we thought they were completely finished with it and when we found some spots that needed touching up, etc. we brought it to their attention the next morning, only to be reassured that they were not quite done and they knew exactly what still needed to be done. There was never any reason to worry! 

James and his crew were very pleasant to have in our home and it was a great experience. They went above and beyond what we could have expected, having never hired professional painters before. We've already spread the word to family and friends about how pleased we are with their work. We will most definitely be calling them again when we are ready to do our kitchen and upstairs bathroom (and any other projects that might come along in the future)! 

They were clean, responsive, and prompt.  James and his crew followed through on everything they agreed to and completed the job in the agreed upon time frame.  James was pleasant to work with.  He is detail oriented and has a high standard of excellence.  We would definitely have him do work for us again.

James and his crew were on-time and on-budget.  They cleaned up after themselves each and every day.  The left no mess for us to clean up.  The quality of their work is the best I've seen.  I watched (for a moment) while they "cut in" in the corners and it looks like they used a stencil.  I couldn't be more impressed.  They finished the job 2 days early and worked on Saturday to complete the job.  James previously painted our main floor with the same results.  I wish I needed more painting.  Whenever I need painting in the future, I'll call James.
