It plays good.  After I practice and get my skill back it should sound great.

Repair cost was much less than anticipated, however a couple of minor things like re-cementing the rings on the clarinet weren't done.

I purchased a new alto saxophone 40 years ago and recently decided to start playing again. After many years of storage in the closet, the horn needed a tune-up or possibly an overhaul. Even an area as large as Salt Lake has very few instrument repair shops left. Since my sax was of professional quality I wanted someone who knew what they were doing. I called around and got results from "We don't repair those anymore to a quote of $400 to $500! I finally called Hyland Music and the owner told me the cost would be $18 per pad replacement and more for oiling and linkage repair. I took the sax in and it was repaired and played as good as new within the week. The staff was friendly and well versed in musical knowledge. They also had a large selection of new instruments, in particular, guitars. The owner was about my age, 60+, so I figured he had experience. He told me the old sax played very nicely now and only needed 3 pads and some linkage work and lubrication. The counter guys were far younger and had an excellent knowledge of more modern electronic instruments. The whole operation had a great "home-town" ambiance. This was a great example of a vanishing breed of full service music store!
