Very good pricing attracted me. They quoted Trex decking, and we asked for Trex-wrapped support columns, which were put into the quote. After a short delay, the deck materials were deposited in our cul-de-sac, which was a minor inconvenience. After another moderate delay, the deck was installed. We were mostly happy with the deck, except that the steps are not supported with concrete or even blocks (just dirt). They took over a week to clean up their mess in front of the house, and left a pile of cement where a bag broke (I cleaned it up). They also left material to wrap the supports with, and told me they'd be back when we decided on railings, which they quoted ~$800 to install (wood with aluminum ballusters). They also said they'd remove the temp. supports at that time. We made the decision to upgrade to Trex instead of wood, and their quoted price went up to $1600! This was over the phone, so they measured, and the price went to $1900. I told them to "sharpen their pencils" and reduce some costs; the next bid was $2200! When I questioned the validity of that bid versus the $1600 bid, they stated that the first bid was materials only...which was not true; all the quotes were materials & labor. I then priced out Trex railings at Home Depot for about $900 total, called them and told them to just finish what we'd paid for (wrapping the supports and removing the temporary supports), and they told me that would be $80/post EXTRA! They told me that I did not pay for wrapping the supports, when my wife and I were very clear that that was included.
