Eric and his crew refinished our oak floors in our home. The floors were beat as they had not been refinished in 10 plus years.
The color of the floor came out perfect and the wood looked brand new when they were doneWe were very pleased with the outcome.
They were on time and finished when they said they would. I have highly recommended Underfoot Floors to all our neighbors!
Thank you again!!
I am glad I got the floors refinished--I don't think they look too damaged, and I think the imperfect coloring gives them character. Eric, the owner at Underfoot, came to give me an estimate. He was very professional, knowledgable and friendly, and unlike Elegant Hardwood, he actually seemed to listen to what I want, which is an older floor with character, not a brand new floor. I don't know if Eric does any of the manual labor personally anymore, but I have a feeling if you got him to do the work he would do a really good job, but mine were actually done by two of his employees.
There are a few little patches where it looks like some dust wasn't cleaned off really well before they put on the finish, so those places are a little bit rough, not completely smooth. Also, the quarter round was a little bit sloppy in some places, and one wall they completely forgot to install the quarter round. They told me to fill the gaps with caulk, but I think they could have cut the quarter round more precisely to reduce the size of the gaps. After I pointed this out, they installed the missing quarter round promptly and fixed the most offensive gap to my liking, but they also applied caulk to some of the corners that were fine, and the caulk actually made it look worse because they got it on the floors. They also repositioned the intake vent for the furnace, but the grate didn't fit correctly when they were done, and they left a structurally unnecessary piece of wood under the grate so it blocks quite a bit of the airflow. They were good about fixing it so the grate fit well, but still left the offending piece of wood. Furthermore, they left some black streaks on my walls that I had just painted so I'll have to see if I can wash those off or just paint over them.
Maybe if I had made a big deal about all these little problems and complained more they might have fixed those things, but I didn't feel like taking the time to do that and overall I'm pretty happy with my floors--they still look %100 better than they did--they were in really terrible condition.
The office personnel and installers were knowledgeable and professional.
I will definitely recommend Underfoot Floors and use them again if needed.
It was hard to compare prices, since most places either did not include the prep work and/or installation costs, or wanted to charge for someone to come out, measure, and give an estimate (they called it a and quot;free estimateand quot; but then said the estimate was and quot;included in the purchase priceand quot;). From what I could estimate, these were not the cheapest bamboo floors, but I also think the cheaper floors were, well, cheaper and of lower quality. Even though it was more expensive than I had hoped, I think the price was actually pretty competitive for good-quality flooring.
One more thing: I did get three quotes. Underfoot was slightly higher, but still comparable to the others. Plus, it made me feel better that they had a store that I could go see the wood types/colors.
