What a shock it was when they charged us $4,492.58 to move our things to Salt Lake City and put them in their storage facility. Mind you we had already packed nearly everything in the house and most of it was stacked in the garage in boxes.
I asked them to send me a copy of the original bid as I couldn't find it in our files. They sent what ;was clearly an altered bid of $3,973.13 to truck our things to Salt Lake. After a more thorough search, my husband found the true original bid of $2,212.04.
The above was the cost (just under $4500 )to get our things to Salt Lake and into their storage facility. There have been additional charges ($2800) to get things out of their storage and into our recently completed new home. (Our family members and friends, all pitched in to get the truck unloaded at the new house and were able to avoid more exorbitant fees).
After five nights of my husband and I sleeping on the mattress on the floor they were able to replace, some screws and parts one of their workers lost, and which were necessary to put the master bed together. Over all, we did not have a good experience and would not be able to recommend them to anyone else. We have moved across country with more furniture and effects for much less.
On move in day at our new house the truck was an hour and a half late (something about them having the wrong phone number or whatever, which again, they'd been given at least 3 numbers so...) but the unloading went quickly. Because of the screw up with the truck size, the movers had taken apart various pieces of furniture and exercise equipment (that originally were going to be moved intact) and most of it we had to reassemble ourselves. One mover, who basically refused to carry anything heavy (I heard him myself and also heard his coworkers complaining about him) was given the task of putting our treadmill back together and he quite literally just placed each part in the area that it needed to go and then put the covers over top, leaving everything unbolted/screwed and the entire thing in pieces. Because of the placement in the house, the treadmill-in-pieces ended up blocking off most of our basement, and we didn't have the tools (or the time) to put it back together. After numerous phone calls to the office, Two Man Movers did send someone out to reassemble the treadmill and to fix the stripped bolts that were a result of either disassembling it or the ridiculous pretense of reassembling it.
All in all, what started off as a very promising experience turned out to be a bit of a nightmare. Two Man Movers did address each problem as they happened, more or less, but the effort it took to make sure we weren't overcharged, to make sure the damage done to our old house wasn't left for the new home owners, to get our own belongings put back together, not to mention the dents and scratches that we're still finding... I would not hire Two Man again, nor would I feel comfortable recommending them to a friend.
The worst part of this experience was that they broke several items of furniture during the move. And wherever they had the stuff stored was damp or the stuff got wet. This was during October and November and in Utah it snows during those months. Most of the stuff that was damaged wasn't of great value, so I chalked it up to a bad choice on my part of a moving/storage company. But one or two pieces were new and one was broken in pieces when I got it back, and the other had a leg broken off and a shelf busted out. This piece of furniture was a book/storage cabinet and was new and was well made. When they moved in the furniture to my new home, they also scratched a brand new piece of furniture that I had bought the week before. There was no reason for them to even be near that piece of furniture while moving stuff in.
They had me submit a claim form for the damage to the new piece of furniture and for the cabinet that was broken. They didn't say anything about the broken to pieces item, I found it after they left.
When I received the reimbursement for the broken and damaged furniture it was pathetically undervalued. There was a form type letter with the check that said my furniture was made of "particle board' and therefore wasn't valuable and so they paid cents on the dollar for what I estimated as cost. Some of my furniture was of that kind of quality and I didn't even bother to report the damage to those pieces, but the ones I did submit were of good quality and are now garbage thanks to the indifference in how this company handles furniture and the poor storage conditions.
I would NOT recommend this company to any one. They are not professional and they will give poor service.
The claim process is not going well with Stevens Van Lines who is the partner carrier of Two Man Movers. We had some damaged items, a 22" scratch in the top of a leather couch, a mangled stainless steel freezer door on the fridge, dented chest freezer, dented clothes dryer, broken antique desk. Their claims adjustor letter just arrived and in essence says if you don't report damage on move in day they don't claim it "We respectfully deny liability". So you have 6 months to file a claim, but are supposed to inspect all 400 items on move in day, before they leave? Seriously? What a shock, their allowance of liability comes in at less than half of what the deductible is, so in their eyes, they owe us ... nothing. So unhappy.
I will provide full details on our nightmare when issues are resolved. Suffice to say, I would NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. They misrepresented details of the move in order to get our business, then vanished. The issues reared their heads on moving day which went on for 15 hours (driver left my home at 11:55pm). We are now trying to do claim forms and they emailed us the wrong forms. I put 90% of the blame for the problems on Two Man Movers who is the agent for Stevens Van Lines. They even "forgot" to tell the driver he needed mattress boxes (because they forgot them the day prior when they packed) and when he drove over to get them, they didn't tell him they MOVED locations a month prior so he drove to the wrong place. I am so disappointed as they had fabulous Angie's List reviews. But to be blunt, they sucked. They may be okay for an around town move, but our inter-state move experience was bad.
