We are so excited to have additional living space for entertaining, enjoying our yard, and relaxing under the trees.

The craftsmanship in the staircase built was very good and the timeframe in which the work was completed was great.

Josh's quote for the job was significantly less (over 50% less in some cases) than other quotes we received for our job.  Even after some material cost growth during the job, the total was far less than other contractor estimates.   Josh's work was excellent, and a year later, we are still very pleased with our new deck.  Our city has some tough code requirements due to high winds, and Josh worked through the Engineering, permit, and inspection steps for us.  This was not part of his plan or initial estimate and delayed our job some, which I'm sure impacted other jobs to his inconvenience.  Nevertheless, he patiently accommodated the unplanned changes, and kept our job moving as quickly as possible without complaint.  Josh kept in touch with us during the job, and let us know ahead of time if things came up that would prevent him from being on-site as planned.  The finished work is well done, very solid, and looks great.  We have since recommended Josh to some friends for similar work.

I was very pleased with the outcome.  The price may have been a little higher than I was expecting, but the quality was very good and there were no major delays.  I loved the contractor's responsiveness.  He was also very good with the dogs and left the work site in good condition.

It is a beautiful room. It cost way more than we expected. Issues/concerns have since come up and when we contacted him to fix them he put us off. We contacted him and set four or five times to meet. He never made it . He had a variety of excuses. I would not use him again or recommend him.

He came on time and was professional.  The bid for my remodel was way more than I wanted to spend and eventually, I found another contractor.

Let me start by saying I now own the most Awesome new deck. It's built rock solid and is totally beautiful. It turned out better than I ever imagined. The builder Josh goes all out to ensure he does everything flawlessly. I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting a perfect deck built! When complete, all of the building materials were cleaned up and the build area looks like it did before the demo and reconstruction. I couldn't be more satisfied with every dollar spent. I will definitely use Josh in the future for any building or construction needs I may have.

I do need to point out that I scheduled my deck construction at a horrible time for Josh's schedule. He had many conflicts occur during construction that delayed completion quite a bit. Daughter's graduation out of town, onsite TV audition, other projects etc. but, all in all, even with the delays, I would still hire Josh again!

We had windows were installed without the proper flashing, which was causing water damage to the drywall on the inside of the house.  We received quotes from several stucco repairers, as well as from Josh.  Pricewise, he was as good or better than the stucco only businesses, and he also quoted fixing the interior drywall and repainting - which the stucco only businesses would not quote.
Josh was very responsive to every concern and question I had, responding to texts typically within a few minutes.  He actually took $500 off the final price as he didn't have to do as much drywall repair as he anticipated.  The only negative was he told us the work would take two weeks, when it ended up taking three.  However, he and his workers caused minimal disruption to our house and it was easy to go about our daily routine as they were working.
I would recommend Josh and plan on using him for future work.

Mr. Johnston was friendly and did extremely high quality work. His attention to detail was impeccable and he met every challenge our older home presented. He and his assistant became like part of the family over the course of the month they worked on our home. Additionally, Mr. Johnston was always willing to answer our home improvement questions as they arose in our own projects on the home. They will truly be missed. We will think of them every time we climb up to our new rooftop deck! And, we would definitely hire again in the future!

Josh did a great job with nearly all aspects of the project.  He and his team were polite and we felt comfortable with them throughout the build.  We always felt that Josh had our best interest in mind.  He did more complete work on a couple aspects of the project than I expected, which is always fantastic.  I would hire him again.
The only issue we had was that the project was a little slow and cleanup was a bit below par.  That being said, overall Josh was one of the best contractors I've worked with.

Josh and his crew came in and quickly tore down all that needed to be removed.  They removed the piles of rubbish in a timely manner.  Putting it all back together was trickier as things had to be done in a certain order.  We wanted it done quicker, but in retrospect, it was a big job and now it is beautiful.  It took about 2 months to complete!

Josh had done a few projects on my house in the Univeristy area of SLC. My home was built in 1908 and had been remodeled a few times. Josh installed a beautiful cedar fence and pergola at the house and when it came time for a bigger project he was lthe first person I called because of the great job he did on the fence. The project at hand was to build a mudroom off my kitchen, build a porch w/ a hot tub above the mudroom that came off of the master bathroom,build a wine rack in the kitchen, and remodel the pantry. Josh was excited about the project, as were we, and after a timely, open and honest negotiation, we were set to go. Josh was fair and honest with his bid and was spot on as far as the final cost. He worked tirelessly to get the project completed in the timeframe he originally committed to and never cut corners. Josh is committed to building things the "right" way and does not cut corners. The subs he used were professional and did excellent work as well. Josh completed all parts of the job and did a fantastic job. The house is GREATLY improved thanks to Josh. Josh is not the cheapest or the most expensive, but you get what you pay for and with Johnston Construction, that means you get Josh on site all day, everyday. As most people know, contractors have a reputation of being flakey, dishonest, and downright difficult to work with for legitimate reason. Josh is none of these things and is doing his best to personally remove that stereotype from the industry. I think he is doing a d*** good job of it and hope that more people get to experience what I did. I would whole heartedly recommend him to anyone considering a remodel, addition, etc. Josh is the real deal.

I liked him a lot.  He setup times to come back to help me.  He never finished the work completely.  The work he finished was great.  His price is on the higher end.  His quality of the work was excellent.  In terms of responsiveness, he was a little bit slow.  I would use him again in the future.

Josh was upfront about his level of expertise in the various tasks. He sub-contracted plumbing, installation of tile in bathroom, electrical, carpet, cabinets, countertop, and siding.  All of the work was top quality by the sub-contractors and by Josh and his company.  I am very satisfied with the end result given the extensive amount of work completed and the fair price.

My only complaint was the time it took to complete the project.  I was worried at times that the project had stalled.  Based on hearing other experiences with family & friends whom had worked with other contractors, I think this can be expected if the scope of the project is vast like this one.  Josh was always re-assuring and never avoided my calls which I appreciated.  Hiring a contractor can be an anxiety provoking experience and I was pleased with Josh's professionalism and friendliness. 

I would definitely recommend Josh without question to other members of this site.

He showed up on time as promised and finished the wall in our bedroom upon the agreed upon completion date. He also helped us fix some things that weren't finished from out previous contractor. He's extremely reliable, experienced, and does good quality work.

We were very happy with Josh's work. We have a fairly old house that will need some more work, and plan to hire him again for future projects.

Josh is very professional, knowledgeable, reliable, and turns out an amazing finished product. His licensed subcontractors all have the same level of competency and quality he is committed to. Because Josh is so well connected and respected he has been able to get the best quality subcontractors into my house to fix things at the last minute and even in emergencies. His attention to detail is incredible, and his integrity is something unfamiliar to me when dealing with contractors of the past. When Josh gives you a work order and pricing schedule he sticks to it, to the budget and finishes on time. Fortunately, I have my house to a level now that I'm going to sell it. Guaranteed I'll be calling Josh at Johnston Construction when I build or remodel my next house.

I learned a lot working with Josh and his subcontractors. I am very pleased with the end result and will likely work with Josh more in the future. If you have a project and want it done RIGHT, I would highly recommend Johnston Construction.
