Jeff Shaw was the general contractor for a major remodeling job on my house. We took the house down to the shell and put in new wiring, plumbing, hardwood floors, new kitchen, new bathrooms, new paint, new roof etc. We also added about 600 square feet above ground and about 900 square feet of basement. There were many problems during the construction process not the least of which was them taking out my neighbors sprinkling system and tearing up their side yard in order to get the backhoe into my backyard. They didn't have permission do this and my neighbor thought I had told them to do it while he was out of town. If this were the only problem I could live with it but it is not below are some others. The stucco was way behind schedule and of course Jeff blamed the stucco guy for not getting back with him. The weather was getting cold and I didn't want to have them stuccoing in the middle of the winter so I called the stucco company and was able to have a conference call with the stucco company and the stucco guy to get him to coordinate with Jeff to get the stucco put on. Why Jeff couldn't do this is a mystery but again if this were the only problem I could live with that. The biggest problem with the remodel was the courtyard with basement under it. After about a year I noticed that the insulation in the basement was wet and when I pulled it out a ton of water came down. The waterproof membrane wasn't working. Jeff said he installed it right and that they never work while the architect said he had them installed in Deer Valley and that they did work. Jeff didn't want to tear out the stamped concrete and fix the problem but instead just cut out about four square feet and left it at that so I was stuck with a leaky courtyard with basement under it unless I took him to court. I never did and have been living with this problem since 1997 when Jeff did the remodel. Each winter I put down tarp and plywood over the courtyard to keep the water out but this isn't the only problem see below. The roof also was not put on correctly and water is able to get on and behind the stucco. I have had a Aspen Roofing come and look at my roof to determine that it was put on incorrectly. So not only do I need to replace the waterproof membrane for the courtyard but I also need to replace my roof because neither one of these were done correctly. There were other problems as well but all I can say is buyer beware. Having Jeff do the remodel was a horrible experience.
