As usual, Michael did excellent work. He worked on a chair that I have owned for several decades and is a favorite piece of furniture of our family. The wood had dried out over the years and was in poor condition. He knew exactly what to do to bring it back to good condition. We will now be able to enjoy it for many more years.

I had two old pieces of furniture and two old tool/file boxes. The furniture included an old wooden child's school desk that was painted blue and my mother's sewing cabinet. When they returned from Michael, they were both masterpieces. The desk, which for many years has been hidden away under a table cloth because it was so unsightly, is now a prominent piece in my living room. It has an exquisite wood finish - quite beautiful. The sewing cabinet had peeling veneer and many chips and scratches. Michael restored it to its original condition, with a wonderful finish and no evidence of its 50 years of constant use. The two boxes (1 old wooden tool box and 1 old wooden file box) were both completely black and both looked like throw-aways. When Michael was finished they were both wonderful pieces, restored to their natural wood. He has a talent for bringing out both the perfections and the character of the wood, so that while the pieces are wonderfully restored, they also maintain a look that reflects their history and usage. I was also quite pleased with Michael's pricing and timeliness. The pieces were finished much sooner than I expected and I felt his pricing was very good. I was so pleased that I sent an additional item (a table base) to be refinished and am equally as pleased with it. Upon seeing the original 4 items that Michael refinished, my husband commented that he had no idea they could look so spectacular. Michael Ensign is a true craftsman and I definitely recommend him!
Description of Work: Michael Ensign refinished five items for us, and also repaired two other pieces of furniture.

Mike came by to see the pieces of furniture ( a dresser and a cedar chest, both old family pieces) before giving us a bid. He emailed the bid so we could decide and then picked up the furniture when we agreed. He called us in when the sanding was done so we could pick the finish. The dresser and cedar chest were so much nicer. This is the second time we've used Ensign Fine Finishing and the second time we've been very pleased.

Michael did a great job, repairing the furniture to original quality. He was very fair with pricing, and gave me an Angie's list discount. He did the job in a timely manner. I was very happy with his services. The only thing that took a while was the invoice, but that may have been a miscommunication between me and our friend who's furniture it was.

Excellant! I'd highly recommend Ensign Fine Finishing for furniture repair. I had a dining room chair fall off the moving truck, which shattered the leg. Totally busted off. Michael looked at it and had a couple of ideas on how he might address the issue, and wound up going with the best one we agreed on. I am very satisfied -- this was not an heirloom piece by any means, but I didn't want to be down one chair from the set. He found a good, inexpensive solution that worked wonderfully. Very stable repair, and it looks very nice. Very good value. Thanks!

Michael did fantastic work. The desk was repaired and then restored to keep the old look intact. The desk had been in storage for nearly 10 years and was in bad repair. Michael made all the repairs, replaced all the locks, added a shelf bottom that was missing, and then refinished it just the way I had asked. I was totally pleased and highly recommend Michael to anyone looking for furniture repair and restoration. He goes the extra mile to ensure his customers are completely satisfied.

Mr. Ensign is extremely knowledgable and experienced. I was immediately comfortable with him and didn't even get bids by other businesses. The piano looks beautiful, and he came with the movers upon bringing it back to make sure everything we perfect. He only uses a high quality mover who did a great job both picking up and dropping off, very conscientious. I rated him overall an A, and the only B I gave was because of a misunderstanding about when he would start working on it. Part of this was because I didn't really care when I got it back. I believe that if I had requested by a certain date it would have been no problem.

I had refinished this dresser myself as a teenager--badly--. Mike took the horrible job I did and created a truly beautiful antique that I hope to share with my family. He is an artist, doing did all the extras, finding missing pulls, handle supports and fixing the horrible stain I had applied. WOW!

Our three elegant but less than robust chairs were broken by careless dinner guests. I had repaired one of the chairs by screwing the back side and the seat back together, defacing the chair with ugly screws. Mr. Ensign did miracles with the chairs. Whatever he did specifically to them (pegs, dowels, sanding, filling holes, refinishing) -- the results were superb. The workmanship was impeccable: There was no trace of any previous fractures and the wood surface was as smooth in the formerly broken areas as elsewhere on the chairs. The price was reasonable, as was the time spent on the repairs. We could not have been more satisfied with the whole experience. On a personal level, Mr. Ensign is extremely pleasant, accommodating, and professional. We will certainly use his services again in the future and recommend him to our friends.

We had a chair that needed to be recaned and it was hard to find someone to do that; not many people do that anymore. They did it and they did an excellent job. It was perfect and it was better than we thought. We believe we spoke to Michael Ensign and he was very knowledgeable and very friendly. He went out of his way to drop off the chair, when he was finished with it. We thought his price was very fair for the work that he had to do. He was great and we will definitely use him again.

The guy from Ensign Fine Finishing, Inc. that came out and met with me is fabulous. He's great and wonderful. I haven't had him do anything for me yet but he has helped me immensely. He's just quite a cut above and also he's a great resource for electricians and upholstering. He's just amazing and very, very helpful. Everytime I called him and I don't get him direct he calls me that so fast within like 30 minutes. When I get ready to do the project I would call him to do it for me.

He had to completely disassemble the tea cart and essentially rebuilt it. He replaced the rear caster wheels, which required some modifications to get it level. I was thrilled with the results! He is a real find, and spared no effort in restoring this old family piece of furniture to better than new!

We had recently purchased a used dining set that consisted of a large table with three leaves, ten chairs, buffet and china cabinet(s). The set was 40-50 years old and had some wear. It was good quality furniture and the wear was not enough to warrant extensive refinishing. I was able to take advantage of a Big-Deal offered through Angie's List. Michael was prompt, cordial and highly qualified. He helped up assemgle the cabinetry pieces and install a mirror in addition to the light touch up work on all pieces. We were very happy with the results. I plan to call Michael at Ensign again if I ever need furniture repair/refinishing work. It was a pleasure to deal with him.

Ensign deals with heirlooms everyday and some of them are obviously old and expensive. I wanted to have my mother's circa 1940's Lane waterfall cedar chest refinished. It's not an antique and not really expensive but it has so much sentimental value that I wanted it treated with respect. Ensign did that. I believe Michael understands that sentimentality is a consideration but he also loves beautiful furniture so he treats every piece with respect. They offered to drop it off and pick it up but I did that myself and I am glad I did because it was a real treat to see all the amazing pieces in progress. In the end, I thought the service was wonderful and my mother's cedar chest is beautiful after years of abuse. I thought the price was very reasonable, too but most importantly, my mother cried when she saw it and you can't really put a price on that, can you?
Description of Work: Last year, I had Michael refinish my mother's cedar chest. He finished sanding (I had begun the process, sorta), refinished the chest and put a new lock on it.
