Our home warranty company contacted EcoAir several weeks ago when we discovered our a/c had stopped working. I had to leave town for work but my wife was home to look after this issue. After waiting 6 days for a technician to show up, one finally did. His name was Dray (don’t know if that is the correct spelling) and he showed up with the owner, Eric. Dray was awesome, Eric was shady. Dray was helpful, Eric wanted to just get paid and be off to the next job. Dray, in spite of being allergic to bee stings, cleaned out several wasp nests (our unit is on the roof, BTW) and declared our a/c to be working. The next day, it stopped working again. Another call to the home warranty and to EcoAir and a new appointment was scheduled, for several days later. My wife waited around all day, until 9 p.m. and no one showed. After several unanswered calls that night and the next day, by both her and a representative from the home warranty company, there was still no response. Two days later, my wife left to run some errands and was about 30 minutes away from our house when the technician showed up and the company notified her by text he was there. There was no prior arrangement, no notice of being on the schedule, nothing. He just showed up. When my wife called him to explain she was on the way she was told by the technician he wouldn’t wait on her for more than a few minutes. He left but came back that night to look at the unit. He diagnosed it as a bad compressor but his boss, Eric, wasn’t satisfied with that and the technician came back the next day to confirm. They did and they left. Eric then called my wife to tell her if she wanted it fixed she would have to pay a $200 access fee for them to get on the roof, out of pocket. He said the fee was being charged by our home warranty company. They informed us they have no such fee, if it was being charged, it was EcoAir that was charging it. My wife confronted Eric with the information from the warranty company and he basically told her that if she wanted the a/c fixed she would have to pay him extra. I called Eric, from Japan, to discuss and he kept sending me to voicemail. I have had numerous people on my roof for numerous jobs, including servicing the a/c, which is in the normal spot on a normal roof, and not once has anyone ever even hinted at charging a fee to climb a ladder. If Eric wanted to charge a fee, why wasn’t the fee mentioned on day 1, before his technician ever climbed the ladder the first time? The warranty company contacted Eric and he told them he needed to bring in a crane for the job. I finally got in contact with Eric and he told me the charge was for a lift, not a crane, which he said he needed to get the unit off the roof so he could swap out the compressor. When all was said and done they showed up with no lift, no crane, and completed the job very quickly. Eric is a shyster. His techs are really nice, but he is a con-man. Do your due diligence and, if you decide to use EcoAir, get everything up front, in writing. Better yet, don’t use this company, the owner will try to shake you down. I had to cancel a fishing trip in Alaska and come home to deal with this. Once I was home, this was quickly finished. Judy, in the front office, was awesome. A bright light in an otherwise horrible experience. One bright note was Judy, in the office. She was incredible.
