Master Electrician, Dan Chishom (Utah Lic. #295205-5502) and son Joe began rewiring our 1700 square foot bungalow in late September, arriving mornings before 8 AM and working till it got too hot in the attic. Midway, I decided to remove the old rock wool insulation to make the job easier for them and for others scheduled to work in the attic. Most of the work was done by mid-October, when I hired a plasterer/painter to repair plaster around fixture boxes and switches where my old plaster had crumbled during electrical repairs. After that, Dan and son returned to install light fixtures. Dan is an artisan of the old school, who takes pride in his work and charges enough to make a living, but is not interested in charging all the market will bear. He did not mark up the materials he bought for the job, but charged me what they cost him. Dan enjoys sharing his political opinions and philosophical musings with the homeowner and bragging on his two sons who are both accomplished jazz musicians.

Overall work was excellent and at very competitive rates. Before work was started I met with the electrician to discuss the work and get an estimate of the cost and an idea of how long it would take. The actual work took a few days longer than first estimated, probably because of the volume and difficulty accessing some of the old knob and tube wiring that needed replacing. However, all the performed work was done at an exceptionally expert level. We also had extra outlets installed with minimal damage to existing walls which was not easy to do owing to their being constructed of old plaster and lattice. We also had new ground wiring installed to essential outlets and GFI outlets installed in bathrooms and the kitchen. The electrician was very communicative, explaining the work in detail especially when some services required extra work or time due to difficulty regarding working space or problems figuring out the original electrical circuits. The electrician was also thoughtful by installing posts so that we can find junction boxes under insulation. He also tidied wiring in the basement and removed non-working switches and outlets to generally improve the look and function of the house. The entire work cost came in under the estimated budget but we were so pleased with the work that we paid the original cost. We plan to use the contractor for any additional electrical needs and highly recommend his expertise to anyone who is in need of electrical work.
