Lawn Irrigation
Great. They called in advance to verify the time when they would arrive and then showed up on time.

Lawn Irrigation
They spent 3.5 hours evaluating existing system. Turns out the stop and waste had a leak, the galvanized pipes feeding a valve box had numerous leaks, and the timer unit had a discrepancy (?) Therefore, a completely new system was needed. I am living in Boston, so my correspondence with Geramie was done by phone. I felt he was being honest and reasonable, so we pressed on ahead for the re-install. He was not comfortable replacing the stop and waste, given the leaky galvanized pipes, so he recommended I hire a plumber (done by Trinton plumbing). I asked Geramie for the layout plan about a week prior to work. He sent me a hand-drawn diagram a couple days prior to start. The plan was reasonable for this property, which is a corner lot. I pointed out that a corner of back yard was not included in plan. I also asked about how the sprinkler was to routed under the 30 foot wide driveway. His plan was to cut the driveway with a saw and patch with concrete. At the time, I didn't know of another method and this discussion was literally a day prior to start. My niece's husband (Jason) happen to stop by just after the driveway was cut. He reported some concerns he had: 1) The cut was made next to curb, which is the highest stress point in driveway. Would have been better to cut near garage. 2) The driveway should not have been cut at all - I later heard about a service that drills under driveway. 3) A worker had picked up 8-12 bags of mortar mix - Geramie caught this error and sent him back. He later returned with Quickcrete and Geramie told Jason that he could drive over this in 6-8 hours. 3) This quickcrete patch-job was to be hand-mixed in the afternoon of a 100+ degree day; this driveway faces west, so gets direct afternoon sun. Jason was able to convince them not to do concrete on such a hot afternoon, since concrete will dry unevenly. Since I was coming into town, I told Geramie to hold off on concrete patch until I arrived. Geramie knows sprinklers and the job he was hired for was done well. However, he does not know concrete and my concern was this patch job would crack apart after a few years and require removal and replacement. I decided to hire a concrete repair person (Chuck Williams), who recommended a high load concrete since it was a 4-6" opening, an expansion joint, and rebar to hold this strip intact. I sucked up the $600 charge, figuring this was cheaper than repairing a patch-job years later. Ironically, this is about the same money as drilling under the driveway. So I'm satisfied with my new sprinkler system, but felt the driveway could have been done much better.
