Remember
when you rent and RV, you're not jest renting a vehicle. You're renting
a small cabin that you'll be stuck with for a few days to a few weeks.
-The
contract send we had a full gas tank, the gauge said 3/4. We had to
browbeat the staff to come out and take a look to correct the contract.
(On an RV, that's a lot of gallons.)
-The connection between the drain and sewage hose always leaked. (Disgusting, embarrassing and possibly illegal.
The
first night we discovered the water draining from the bathroom sink
bubbled up from the shower drain. We had to drive back to the lot for
them to correct the problem. We lost and entire day of our vacation.
This fault should have been found and corrected before the unit ever
left the lot. In the high season with quick turnaround, possibly it
could be excused. In November when we were one of the few customers,
there were not excuses.
Last of all, only reserve for the minimum
number of days you know you will need the RV. In our case the weather
turned bad and we returned the unit 3 days early. (We gave the company
plenty of warning.) Did they credit any of the unused days? No chance.
But we were told that if we had returned 3 days late, there would have
been no penalty, we would have only been charged for the extra days.
In
the company's favor: They did credit us for the lost day and miles due
to the plumbing problem and they did note a crack windshield when we
left the lot at the beginning of the trip. (I know a lot of car rental
companies which would not have played as fairly.)
