Working with Chimera Construction was hands down the best contractor experience we have ever had. We had both our kitchen and upstairs bathroom remodeled at the same time. Because of the major changes of moving walls and new plumbing, electrical, and cabinetry we made the decision to move out. Chimera promised they would have us back into our home as soon as possible, and they were true to their word; we moved back in 7 weeks later. Chimera had someone on site every work day, and most of the time there were three or four of the Chimera crew here. The owners, Travis and Tyler, communicated so well with us throughout the project - making sure they understood what we wanted and getting designs to us, setting a start date (they met it!), asking about details as they came up, and making sure we were happy with the results of each phase. They have an eye for detail, and are great at communicating ideas and options. There was never a call or text that we made that went unanswered. Chimera also builds their own cabinetry instead of using a cabinet shop, and we are so pleased with them. In the bathroom, they needed to match some existing hallway cabinetry, and the color came out perfect. I'd also like to say that Travis and Tyler don't cut corners like so many contractors do. They go above and beyond to make sure construction is sound and every detail is finished.
When people see the photos of our finished kitchen and bathroom, the usual response is "It looks like it's from a magazine." When friends and family come by for the first time since the remodel, they are astounded when they walk in. Seriously beautiful work from an awesome company. Thank you Travis, Tyler and the Chimera crew. We will be a long-term customer.
They promptly, gave me a detailed bid. arrived with good quality materials, when they said they would and completed each faze of work in a timely manner.
Travis communicates well, stays in touch, and talks-over ideas and possibilities with me to help me make decisions. They worked around and with plumber, tiler, and floor refinisher, that I had hired separately.
Tyler recognized that one wall of original framing, was out-of-plumb, and therefore, wouldn't sheet-rock nicely. Travis informed me, let me decide what to do, and replaced the wall with little additional cost..
I hope to use them to do the other side of my house.
Travis and Tyler and all those that work with them are tops. We have finally found the "Dream Team" with Chimera Construction LLC. We have had multiple projects they have done, all of which has turned out great. We have enjoyed the process as all of them are hard working, detail oriented, efficient, clean, polite, conscientious and cordial. All jobs have been completed when we agreed. They can take care of any large home construction or any size job needs you may have. One call to Travis and he says, "Yes we can take care of that." And he does. Thank you.
We hired Chimera to finish our attached garage. This included sheet rocking, door replacement and some concrete work. Their sheet rocker did a quick and beautiful job. In order to install our new steel door, the cement steps into the garage had to be redone. This was done before we even got home from work, and looks great. They were able to tie the new cement into our 50 year old existing steps seamlessly.
We have used these guys numerous times for all kinds of projects, from a complete kitchen remodel, to installing a water heater. They are always responsive, knowledgeable and very trust-worthy. We never hesitate to give them our house keys. We have what seems to be an endless list of projects for this old house, and will use Chimera again without a worry.
"As the owner of Chimera Construction. I'd like to say we had in no way participated in any part of this project this is either a fraudulent review or a mistake."
"Chimera construction was not involved in this project . We do not have a Gary"
During the demolition phase, we discovered that the main structural beam, holding up the house, had major termite damage and would have to be replaced. This would be the first snag in the project! Travis Grob, Co-Owner of Chimera Construction, consulted with a structual engineer and within a week, we had a technical design to replace the rotten beam with a steel I-Beam. This allowed us to open up the tiny space even more than we had planned in the original layout. Every square inch of space counted in this project and nothing was wasted or overlooked.
The project had to be permitted through Salt Lake City, and this was no simple task. It took three reviews to get the city to sign-off on the design and issue the permits. Chimera Construction was adimant about having the permits in-hand before we started the project. How many contractors do you know who play by the rules of the local city planning commssion?
Each phase of the construction process was plagued with set backs that had to be resolved ASAP to keep the project moving forward. Chimera Construction kept us informed and would give us the options we had to work with, and they made sure we stayed on budget. There was no surprises, or hidden cost overrides throughout the 95 day project.
All of the subcontractors that Chimera Construction has partnered with excel at their trade and they take pride in their work. Not to mention, they are all family-orientated young men who work hard for their paycheck. If you are considering a renovation, remodel or a new construction project, get a bid from them, they're not cheap, but they do outstanding work!
it was a big project and we continued to add more things to it.
pros:
- travis was always professional and was always receptive to feedback on the work
- with some exceptions, the work was completed at a reasonable level of quality. some exceptional, some poor, but primarily good quality.
- travis was always accommodating to change orders
- travis was sincerely interested making sure we were happy with the results and was always open to fix things to
- the price of the work seemed reasonable
cons:
- travis sometimes had a difficult time managing his sub-contractors
- travis was often over aggressive on his estimates to complete work, and frequently missed deadlines
- during the year long project there were long stretches (weeks) of time when little or no work was done
- the administrative management of the project turned out okay, but was not one of chimera's strong points
the biggest positive was that we were generally happy with travis and the work completed.
the biggest negative was that it took significantly longer than estimated and deadlines were frequently not met.
We are pleased with the final product but found the drawn out process of getting things finished to be frustrating. Chimera appears to be a popular company and they were busy with other projects.
