They brought a crew of incompetent movers. We had more damage in this move than any military, corporate or across town.
They dropped one dresser twice, put gashes in the walls, scraped up 6 or 7 other items. One of their guys fell out of the truck on some of the furniture doing more damage. They were supposed to assemble the 4 beds but only assembled one and it fell apart in the middle of the first night. They tried to leave all the boxes in the garage instead of bringing them in saying they were out of time.
They did send out a furniture repair service that did a fairly good job on most items but it took 1 month to get it done.
They ripped up one of the mattress and box springs which was all that was all I was going to claim but after notarized letters and pictures I got a letter in the mail that they would reimburse only $60 after more notarization and signatures.
We had them scheduled to pack us on a Wednesday and move us the next day. They came hours late, two of the packers were good but the other two were absolutely ridiculous! My husband was at work and I couldn't watch all the packers at once so I didn't find out how terrible they were at their jobs until we got to Kansas and I started to unpack. Many boxes were packed full of random items and not wrapped in any way. Lampshades were on the bottom of boxes with books loaded on top of them. Of course the lampshades were ruined. Framed awards were stacked in big piles on top of each other with no wrapping. What did they think would happen?! Of course the glass was all broken! Everytime I'd go upstairs I'd find one of the packers on his cell phone.
There are so many more problems I could list but it would take pages. We had many, many things broken. Even I would know not to put handweights in with glass bowls! They knocked holes in the walls while moving furniture and didn't mention them so I found out when they were gone. They wrapped my paper covered picture boxes together with packing tape! Things were done that showed either lack of common sense or lack of caring.
In all, it took them from Wednesday - Sunday to pack and move us! I had to cancel all my plans for the weekend. It was very stressful because I had to drive to Kansas on Monday morning.
When the trucks (they packed two small trucks instead of one large one) arrived at our new home in Kansas they didn't have any other help. The company only sent two guys to move in two trucks of furniture and boxes. The guys were nice but of course it took forever! After 10 hours of them moving our stuff in, my husband and I started unloading the truck too. We just wanted it finished! It took almost 13 hours. Why didn't they send more workers?
Many boxes were not marked at all so as I open boxes now I often have to move them myself to different rooms. I've taken pictures of all the broken things, but they only reimburse 60 cents per pound! So for each framed certificate they broke we'll get 60 cents. For the broken crock pot we'd get $1.80. It's not even worth the paperwork.
My recommendation is DO NOT use this company! The only reason I didn't give them straight Fs is because some of the workers were nice.
I did use Kellogg's Movers in the past to move the same amount of furniture and to a much further distance and they charged half the amount of All My Sons.
When I called to get a bid on the move they said that they charged $149/hr to move. They also said they charge an hour travel time for Park City. Sounded reasonable to me. They also said they charge a fee for gas. No problem. I hired them. It never occurred to me that they would attempt to charge me an hour of travel time IN ADDITION to the total time (including the travel time) spent working from start to finish.
When they showed up, the man in charge (forgot his name), wanted to go over the paperwork. He went over the rates as fast as he could but I had to stop him several times and make him explain what I was signing. He tried to rush through it again and again I had to make him slow down so that I understood what I was signing. He tried to get me to sign on the contract stating that the furniture was delivered properly but I told him, no, I would sign that after the furniture was delivered and I could verify that all was good. He said OK
He said that he was estimating that the move would take a certain time and wanted my credit card info and me to sign to authorize payment right then. I said that I would not authorize any payment until the job was finished since I was paying by the hour. He said that was the way his boss wanted it. I said no. I said that didn't make sense and I would pay when the job was complete and we could add up the hours at that time. He said OK.
Then they started loading up the truck. When we got to my home in Park City the man in charge said that it would take an hour for them to unload and tried again to get me to authorize/finalize the bill so he could "call it in". Again I said no. I told him we would figure the bill when the work was done. Period. He said that was the way his boss wanted to do the charge. I told him that, just like I said at the home in SLC, I would settle and pay the bill when they were done. He said OK.
The truck was unloaded and he called me over for the final bill. He went over the bill very quickly and I stopped him several times to question him. He again tried to rush through it and called his business to attempt to process the card while I still had questions. I stopped him and made him hang up. He said they were charging me.
1. 34 for "materials". They never ever mentioned a material charge. 2. 78 for gas. A little high but whatever, no prob. 3. 5.5 hours of labor at 149. This was the total time from start to finish. 4. I hour of travel time.
I told him that I was being double charged during the travel time. He was charging me for the total time from start to finish and then adding in an hour of travel time. The only way it makes sense to pay for travel time is if they stopped the clock before and after the travel time which they didn't.
Long story short, they guy called his boss and the boss would not relent. He said I signed a contract that specified and hour travel time. I would not relent. Finally after much arguing with the boss I wasn't paying it and hung up. Now I know why the guy tried so hard, twice, to get me to authorize the charges beforehand. Unless their customer is a wimp or an idiot they must get this argument every time they do business. If I had already authorized the charges beforehand, like he wanted me to do, they would have run my credit card and by the time I figured out I was being double charged, it would have been almost impossible to get the charge rectified.
The guy talks with his boss again while I walk off. He comes back to me and agrees to take an hour off the bill.
I didn't even fight the materials charge. I authorized and they left.
As soon as they left I called the boss back and asked him if he was interested in feedback from a very unhappy customer. Bottom line on that phone call is that he wasn't interested.
This job ended on a VERY BAD note. It is obvious this is standard practice for them. I would NEVER use this company again or recommend them to anyone else.
but never once mentioned that I would be charged for the total time from start to finish.
