When I picked up the car it generally looked good. However, upon close inspection the aftermarket replacement bumper had an injecting mold seem that was painted over instead of quickly being sanded down. Additionally, I was charged a fair amount more for the additional work to replace the starter.
The shop, reluctantly, buffed the seems in the aftermarket bumper to make it satisfactory. It is a 15 year old car so I was ok with just an ok job. I would not have been ok with a new higher end car. The shop also negotiated a slightly lower charge for the starter, but still more than the quote.
Overall, the shop did an ok job on the work, not great attention to detail. The lady I dealt with on the phone who kept me informed on the process was excellent. I did feel a little taken by the extra work costing a fair amount more than quoted. I left satisfied, but will not be returning. With so many body shops in Salt Lake that are not franchises of a national chain I will opt for an independent shop that gets good reviews.
On 12/26 Brian Johnson gave me a ride across town to drop me at my other car and took my Escape back to the shop. He said they were busy, thanks to recent heavy snowstorm and my car should be done the first of next week.
He called me several times to let me know how things were going (including letting me know that they found an additional small problem but that it's cost could probably be offset in another area.)
I got a pleasant surprise when Brian called to let me my car would be ready to 12/28. He could pick it up around 5:00. That time wouldn't work for me. He said he'd see what could do. He called right back to say he could get my car by 3:00. That worked just fine.
I picked up my car and the repair is completely invisible. The car was washed and an cleaner that when I left it.
Best of all: The cost was less than the original bid.
