This installation started out okay. The estimator was pleasant and helpful and I felt like I was getting a good quality window. The window was highly rated by Consumer Reports. When it was time for the installation, a bunch of guys showed up who seemed very polite but who had no English. One guy seemed to be the spokesman for the group and he and I could sort of communicate with sign language. It became apparent right away that there was some problem because they were replacing a casement window with a slider.  They ended up rebuilding the inside of my window with trim and wood putty and left my window looking kind of like I had done it myself - a little bit messy.  I didn't know then and I still don't know now if the guys did me a big favor by making it work or if I settled for something less than normal.  
I realized shortly after the guys left that I couldn't latch the window but since it was still warm outside I didn't worry about it right away. However, the first time the wind blew against that window I realized that I still had a draft coming through, UNDER the window. I was so disappointed. I called HD back and they sent a guy out to fix the latch. While he was there I asked him about the draft. He told me that they don't do any sort of insulation around the window. They just install the window and that if I wanted improved insulation, I could drill holes in the wood trim that the guys had just put up and spray it in myself. It would have been so much easier to do that while the window was being replaced.  I didn't know enough to ask them to let me do it while the window was out and my assumption was that they would do what needed to be done.
Anyway, to make a long story short, next time I will work with a contractor that I can communciate with and who will take the time to do the job correctly in the first place.  With Home Depot, you just take whoever they send you and they limit themselves to the minimum service.

They were very nice. It was a special ordered door, so they called us to setup installation. They even came on the same day. They did good work.

I will never use this company again. It was a custom door. They took the wrong measurements. They brought the door dirty.
