Alta Restoration & Remodeling

Alta Restoration was very prompt in doing the work and cleaned up after their jobs. We saved some money by buying the range hood and the fans ourselves. Alta recommended a painting contractor whom we paid directly to paint our new doors. In general, everything went well. My husband and I are busy people and weren't always easy to contact. John was patient in working around our schedule and helping us decide on what we wanted to do. A couple of items weren't completed to our satisfaction and Alta came right out and fixed those items. I wasn't as happy with the cabinet subcontractor, but John gave us two choices for the cabinets and that was the one we chose.
John was patient with us when our budget wouldn't cover everything we wanted to do. Yes, I would recommend Alta Restoration especially if you want personalized service.

It is with John. He is a businessman and I really like that. He came in and displayed his plans to us very professionally. We had our dream of course of what we wanted to do and it was out of our price range. We told him that it was out of our price range and so he really worked with us on what we could do in order to make the cost less. We are still very happy with what we came up with. I like that you have your dream, but he also mixes your dream with what is in your budget. I like that he is very thorough in his renovations. He makes sure that everything is up to code. He talks to you about the progress of it. He is just really good. I am a stay-at-home mom and I had one baby at the time. I felt really safe with him and his son in my house and that was really important to me. I felt safe with them in our home because they were in our home for three or four months. It was a really good experience. With their help we redid our electrical and he redid our plumbing. That is what I like. We are very happy with our home. Everything is working great. We updated everything up-to-code and I felt comfortable with him in our home. He is a very trustworthy man. The pricing was really good for what we did. It was of course something that we were not expecting, but it all needed to be done because we have an older home so there were a lot of things that needed to be upgraded. I think it was very fair with what was done on the home. The quality is exceptional. We are very happy with the quality of their work.

John helped us think through a possible remodel on a home purchase, drawing up potential plans and talking over our options with us. Even though we will wait to do the remodel (until we can afford it), we were happy to talk with an expert and get ideas for what could be done.

I will use Alta again and again. They take the time to bid the job right, and do it for the cost they say they will. They manage change well and act like a partner in the entire process.

I called several contractors who wanted to give me a "shoot from the hip" estimate and draw hand-puppets about what work they would perform. John worked with us closely and met with us 3 different times and gave us the professional drawings we needed. Considering the amount of work that went in to it, the drawings were very reasonably priced.

We found the Alta employees and the sub-contractors they hired to be honest and easy to work with. Alta worked very hard to stay on schedule. Sometimes specific sub-contractors were late with their part but the overall projects were finished as planned. We had some discoverable items going into two of the projects for which we did not have a cost quote. Once Alta was able to evaluate these items, Alta provided detailed cost quotes to complete the work in a change order format and received our approval before starting the work. We did not have many complaints about the quality of work and the few times we did Alta immediately fixed it.

Our Good Remodeling Experience
Our project got underway close to the time projected and was completed just a little outside the anticipated completion date. Every day of our project the contractor (John Farrell) showed up in the morning, told us what work would be done that day and who would be coming. If any issues came up during the day, we could call John's cell phone and he'd often answer; if he couldn't answer at the time, he got back to us as quickly as possible--and he didn't quit until the problem was resolved. John's people and the subs who worked on our home were a delight to work with. They were diligent and well-mannered at all times.

During our project, we had two sub-contractors that we wanted to do our work because of their craftsmanship, and John was willing to rework our budget, taking his subs out of the project, so that we could have the people we wanted and pay them independently. We felt this was a generous accommodation.

We were completely satisfied with the work on our home and recommend John Farrell (Alta Restoration and Remodeling whenever we have an opportunity to do so.

First time ever that we did a project of this scale before and never knew or worked with John Farrell previously. He and his team were patient and helpful throughout the process. Between email and phone calls, we were able to coordinate change orders during the project that resulted from a variety of issues that popped up. Of the total project cost, 6% ended up being due to the change orders and 94% from original plan. 

Other than one sub-contractor who had minimally satisfactory work, each of the other sub's were established, worked well and did quality workmanship. The result of hiring John was a project that met our needs, expectations and budget and we had no issues with dealing with unknown sub-contractors on our property with my wife home during the day.

We are pleased with the results and would strongly recommend John, his son Daniel and their co-worker Eric and the sub-contractors. In fact, we used two of them to do additional work (build a new brick mailbox and tile work not part of the original project) because of the quality of their work and John's recommendations.

Everything went well in a general sense. There was one delay that was a manufacturing error. But otherwise things went smooth. We turned to Alta because of how excellent our last project with them turned out. This project was more complex and we felt their professionalism during the estimating phase was what we were looking for. I did have to stay on top of the communication thereafter, just to make sure things were happening correctly. The homeowner always should. But I would have appreciated a little more communication from Alta without having to request it. There were two flaws that came from that. One was incidental, the other we had to modify our plans to accommodate. I would still turn to Alta again in the future. I would just request intermittent on-site walk-throughs with the project manager to be certain we were being heard and having our questions answered at every stage of the remodel, even if it was to understand what the next day's plan was. Since we had to live here during the remodel. They anticipated everything, so there were no wild surprises. We always felt safe with them in the home, or leaving the home for them to access as needed. They took every precaution to leave our home in a good condition during construction. Very good natured owner; not just "salt-of-the-earth" but also quite professional in a completely accessible manner.
