Mark Hancey Painting

He was great and very nice to work with. He showed up on time, he did what he said he would do, and checked back to make sure everything was right.

Mark and his team were great in all respects. He completed the work as promised. We requested to have the garage done first, then the rest of the house two weeks later, and he totally accommodated us.  Was very prompt in delivering paint samples on two occasions.  His team was clean - nothing was ruined or splattered.  I had 6 colors throughout, and every wall was painted the correct color. I could not have been more pleased.

Mark was prompt in coming out to give the estimate and we were able to schedule the job fairly quickly. Mark's team arrived every day on time and did a good job of cleaning up. Our satisfaction pretty much ended there. Like another reviewer, Mark was very quick to demand payment, and we paid him before we noticed that there were problems (lesson learned!).
After the team packed up their ladders and brushes, we noticed that they didn't paint one of the chimneys and missed the trim around a window on the second floor, both of which were included in the original bid. Also, in the original bid we asked to have the paint stripped and sanded off the west side of the house before they painted. They stripped, but didn't sand before applying the paint -- of course it looks awful. Mark came out and agreed that it need to be sanded down and repainted and that he would have his team come back and take care this and the other missed areas. Never happened. We've called Mark so many times we've lost count. Each time Mark says, "call me back at such-and-such time and we'll get you scheduled." This has been going on for over 2 years... ad nauseum.

Mark over-charged us and then bullied us into immediate payment.  When we later questioned his invoice, he became verbally abusive and extremely unpleasant.  Do not hire him.

My overall experience was great and I would recommend them again.

Very satisfied with every step of the process

Mark was on-time for the first meeting, provided a timely and fair quote, and gave good feedback regarding what did & didn't need to be done. He was incredibly patient with us, while we struggled choosing the right color, this did take us days and probably messed up his scheduling. His crew was good, though I thought we would see Mark everyday and didn't. It's his business and he's there periodically but he does not actually do the work. My only complaint is that it turns out they were cleaning their brushes inside my fenced back yard. This is an issue because we have dogs, and the safety of the dogs with regarding to the chemicals was the only thing I stressed as important to me, in our initial discussions. They covered up the spot where they cleaned the brushes with a loose piece of sod in a corner, and I discovered it after the job was done. But the price was fair, the prep work they did was thorough and extensive, and the house looks great.

Terrible.  While the quality of work was good--Mark's employee Alex was nice and did great work--Mark was unprofessional, insulting, and bullied me to be paid.  After the work was completed, Mark came to my home when I was there alone with my son, and presented a bill of over $500 more than we had expected, and refused to leave the house until I paid him, even though I disputed the amount.  When I asked him for an accounting of the hours his team worked on the painting project, he became hostile, increased his voice volume and became aggressive.  I was home alone with my one year old son and he made me feel very uncomfortable.  I paid him, for the sole reason that I wanted him out of our home immediately. 

When my husband called him later and asked him for a detailed accounting of the hours worked, Mark again became hostile and insulting, including making personal comments and insults about my husband and our marriage.  He made these comments over the phone and via email.  He did not provide an accounting of the hours worked until we told him we were filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and even when he did provide the accounting, he continuted to be insulting and aggressive. 

We asked him for a $250 refund and he never responded.  We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

We will NEVER recommend Mark Hancey Painting to anyone.  He has an extremely unprofessional, bullying method of customer service and while the quality may be fine, it is not worth dealing with someone who over-charges and then bullies the customer just to get paid.  There are too many other good painters in the Salt Lake Valley who also are ethical and provide quality service. 

Overall I am very pleased, Mark and his crew went above and beyond to help out my handicapped mother get the exterior of her house cleaned up and painted.  Their estimate for the job was half the price of the other bids I got.

Great - Mark came immediately to look at the job and be sure he knew what we wanted done.  He communicated very we, made good suggestions, and was great to work with.

This was a great experience. Mark and his painting crew were punctual, efficient, clean, and very polite. The paint job looks fantastic - no drips or drops anywhere, crisp edges, nice detail around doors and window frames. I was at home most of the days, and the crew was professional and fast. They introduced themselves to me in the morning and checked in when they were leaving.  They were careful around all the plants, they cleaned up every day. We couldn't be happier with the service and the quality of the job. For a mid-range price, we got a top-end result!

The experience was excellent -- Mark and his team were responsive and professional. The job was finished per our pre- established time line. The price he quoted was the price he charged! The quality of the work was excellent!

The job went very well. I got a bid for only part of the house and then we decided to paint the entire exterior of the house. This changed the cost of the job. They were very patient as I considered various paint colors and they helped me choose ones that would look best.

The work was very good, so I actually recommended them to somebody else. They were professional, which is important. They were clean and cleaned up after themselves very well. They did what they said they were going to do, which was good. They were very responsive. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

I got three bids from different painters I found on Angie's List.  Mark's bid was the lowest and he was quick to respond when I called him.  I never met him in person until after the job was completed, but I felt like I knew him because we talked a few times a week trying to figure out when it would stop raining so he could start the job.  Eventually it stopped raining and we got my one-car detached garage on the schedule for painting.  Unfortunately, he had a funeral come up, so I got pushed back a day but when I told him I had an outdoor party scheduled for the upcoming weekend, he was able to get an employee out quickly. 

Alex (the employee) was great and very friendly and willing to go the extra mile with whatever I needed.  He was great with my dogs and careful not to let them escape out the gate while he was working.  He kept his area neat and was good about hauling out all the old paint that he had to scrape off the walls of the garage.  He pretty much finished the job in one day, but came back the next morning to touch up some areas and be sure I was happy with the work.

I met Mark after the fact when he came by to inspect the work and collect payment.  We talked about having him come back and paint my house at a later date.  He got the job done when he said he would for the price he said he would so I give him a thumbs up!

It was incredible. They do a good, thorough job. There were spots that needed going over but I didn't need to point them out.

He was extremely good. He gave us a quote, which we took. We have a very big house and it needed a lot of work done on it. The quote was around $4,000 and when they were stripping it we discovered a problem with the window frames and we had to get that fixed too. It ended up being more than the quote. He was very reliable and his workmen were good. His son who is going to take the business over eventually led the team. He wasn’t onsite every day but he dropped by every couple of days and did a walk around himself before they signed off on the job. We would use them again and we have some interior work that we want him to do. He is good enough that we want to have them back. Our house was built in the 1960’s and it hadn’t been dealt with properly. He came exactly when he said he would to look and give us a quote. They started work within days of when he said they would. They were here about three weeks. They turned up when they said they were going to. They were very punctual and always here when they said they would be. They were very good. He used a subcontractor to do the carpentry work and they were very good.

Slight delay in starting project, though within reason (a few days). Mark's son and another painter did the work and were very professional and thorough. Several neighbors have made very positive comments about the results of their work. Work was done about a year ago and has held up well.

They were very good at keeping me informed of the progress, and also did an excellent job on cleaning up their messes. They missed a couple of spots and came back and touched them up right away.
