We love having him, we have him back whenever we have plumbing issues. He's always prompt and his work is good. I've referred him to my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. We've referred him to family members because we trust him and he does good work.

I originally called this guy's brother, Louis, who was referred to me by my real estate agent.  Louis passed me off to Merlin, his brother, who didn't show up until after 9PM (!).  I had an emergency repair, my shower body needed replacing, and the water to my house had to be shut off until the repair could take place.  With a baby in the house, I needed the work done immediately, so I didn't really have time to shop around or question.  
Merlin did the repair, despite my misgivings when he handed me a card that read "Merlin Jacobsen, plumbing and astrology."
The tile in my shower had to be broken to complete the repair, and he replaced the shower body, using (and charging me for) two shut-off valves that were going to be tiled over, and therefore unaccessible.  He defended his work, saying that "building code required it."  The repair took between 60 and 90 minutes to complete.
The next day, Merlin showed up with a bill for service for OVER $500.  I was too shocked to say anything!  I paid to get him out of the house, and then got angrier and angrier.
After the tile had been repaired (a couple of months later), I attempted to put on the trim myself and couldn't.  It appeared that Merlin had installed the shower body incorrectly, not using the plastic trim guide it comes with, and the water supply pipe needed shortening.  Despite my ill-will, I called him to complete the job.  After calling him again and again (trying to get a time scheduled for over 2 weeks), I eventually gave up and called his brother Lou.  He arrived the next day and finished the job, not charging me anything for the work.
I would say DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!  If his brother Lou tries to pawn Merlin off on you, REFUSE!!!
