Gas Furnace / Forced Air Heating System - Repair
My thermostat froze and would not turn on my heater just as the weather turned cold at night. I called Barlow and begged them to send someone out as soon as possible. When I explained that we have a 74 year old (myself) and two young grandchildren plus their parents living with me. They made me a priority because of the ages of the people living here. They sent out a technician named SPENCER. He went out of his way to replace my thermostat. He was totally professional and more than helpful. Because of SPENCER I am spending a cozy warm night in my home. I am so grateful for Barlow squeezing in an appointment for us and as an additional perk SPENCER was even able to arrive early. He literally went the extra mile to take care of us. Thank you SPENCER and Barlow. Joanne

They are the worst!! They took advantage of a old man. Trying to get the 10 years service plan cancelled after his passing was a nightmare. He would have paid 16,800$ over 10 years that’s 2 brand new AC units and still would have owed 25% if the initial price of 8,400$. IF I COULD GIVE NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD

We have just had the most horrendous experience at Barlow Heating, Air and Plumbing. Before writing a review, we went into the office to work out our negative experience only to be met with Brad, the manager and was treated with such distain, superiority, and defiance. We had read that it would be good to contact the customer service department for satisfaction so, that is what we did. We had a main water regulator in our home that needed to be repaired. My husband went to a major plumbing supply store and found the regulator to be between $80 - $120. Not being a plumber, my husband decided to call a local plumber thinking we could afford the regulator and labor of about an hour. We called Barlow's to set up the appointment. The technician came 45 mins past the two hour service window, went down and directly replaced the regulator. He also spent another hour to replace the expansion tank over the water heater. The technician complained that he was supposed to be at a play. and was late. it being after 5:30 p.m.. He promptly gave us a bill of over $1300.00 ($950 for the regulator that cost less than $120 and took less than 30 minutes to install). We didn't get an explanation for the bill until they left and then it was an email with no explanation. We paid it reluctantly and went into the office the next day to talk to someone thinking this must be a mistake. To our surprise, my husband met by the manage, Brad. My husband was treated with so much pompousness, curtness, and arrogance that words cannot express the shock we felt. We hope that anyone needing a plumber would use Barlow's cautiously.

We have an older water heater and the pilot system went out at the height of Covid, so it did take about a week to get the parts ordered and installed. I can have grace because of Covid, and understand the time frame might not have been their fault. They kept trying to talk us into a brand new water heater and furnace, both prior to this service and at this service. We declined, ordered pilot system which was installed and water heater worked fine after that. On Nov 16,2020 they came to do a gemeral maintenance service on our furnace and he tells me while he was at it he flushed the water heater. By Nov 18 my water was ice cold, so we called to have them come check it out. Before the tech had a chance to arrive, I went into the water heater room and see water all over the floor. Of course when the tech arrives, he gave me a "told ya so" kind of response. He gives me a quote for a new one and leaves. After a few phone calls we found another service provider with a quote of $1000 less for the same exact unit. Needless to say we went with them and are cancelling our service agreement with Barlow. Everytime they set foot in this house they try to sell us some very expensive furnace or water heater, literally everytime they come here. This constant need to try to sell us something makes me very suspicious of the whole ordeal.

It was terrible. I have yet to hear from the company. I've sent them several emails. As long as you don't actually have a real plumbing problem, they might be OK. However, if you actually need help with a difficult leak -- go with someone else. Here is the email I sent Barlow. They have yet to respond: I think that we all recognize that depending on who does the service call, the quality of the experience may change dramatically. Harold, was my technician. Here's some things that you guys need to know: I suggested (very politely, I doubt Harold realizes how disappointed I am with his visit), that the water seemed like it's coming up from the basement floor. I even pointed out the culprit pipe, which had residual water marks flow from it (in the utility room) to the floor drain. In my head, I can picture all sorts of reasons for this: roots in the secondary pipes, this is an older neighborhood, and I wonder as to the quality of our main-line pipes. This problem also seems to be happening in the evening more than the morning. Eventually after removing a bunch of sheetrock (which I was fine with -- I can fix that. I even did most of the cutting, myself) -- we found a leak from the upstairs shower through the subfloor. At that point, Harold, quickly recommended a different company ("Mint"). It seemed to me that he wanted to wash his hands of my problems as quickly as possible, and after barely being able to fill out the digital paper-work, he charged $250 and was on his way. I understand the need for a trip fee. I also understand paying someone for their time, he was here for a few hours. Nobody fixes a stranger's plumbing out of the goodness of their heart. I recognize that Harold is probably a very nice person. Having said all this, I feel very strongly that my money has been cheated from me. Your plumber never even looked in the pipe that I considered the most suspect, and later that day -- when my family used the upstairs toilet (not in the bathroom with the newly discover leaky shower), we found the same puddle on the floor. I wonder if neighborhood main lines get crowded in the evening. Again, though -- -this is not my profession. That's why I hired you guys. The "Mint" employee who followed Harold, did more testing than he did, and seemed much more willing to investigate the problem. He helped me start an insurance claim, however, he told me that he is not a plumber, and did not have a solution to any of the leaks. As a small business owner myself, I take pride in my work. I'm hoping you do as well. I'm hoping that my experience troubles you. I'm hoping that you are willing to make this right. Is there a possibility of having a competent plumber who enjoys his work visit my home to look at my situation? I am willing to pay for his time, though (to be frank), if you feel you can't send someone at no cost, then I will simply take my business elsewhere, and pay someone who cares. Thank you.

Water heater is still going strong! My parents had been using a local handyman, but the results were typically short lived. I wanted to find a group that could get things done right, and it appears this group fits. I'm very pleased.

Continued to have problems with the compressor. Tried to sell me a new A/C and furnace combo as well as new air ducts which I didn't need. Called MB Mechanical which was far superior. They told me I didn't need new air ducts, and that I had a good 3-5 years left on my current system. They cleaned up the compressor and furnace, and told me that it should work fine, but if it quit working again, it had to be the circuit breaker. It did quit again. Replaced the circuit breaker, no more problems.

They came two hours earlier than scheduled which was great.  The repair was fairly easy since the igniter was clearly broken.  The service person explained their service plan for $79/year to get a maintenance visit and reductions on service visits.  My furnace is 13 years old and felt that the possibility of a replacement or more service visits was high.  He discounted today's visit that paid for most of this years service agreement so I purchased the service plan for $6.50/month and plan to schedule my first maintenance visit soon which will be covered.  I felt good with the final deal.

I would never call them , nor would i recomend that company

Response from Barlow Service Experts
"Thank you for the feedback. In reviewing the technician notes there may be a misunderstanding. The piece of paper stuck on the blower wheel was throwing it off balance. After removing the paper the technician advised the blower wheel was still out of balance and that failure to replace the blower wheel could negatively impact time life of the motor and effect overall performance of the furnace."

Barlow sold and installed Lennox furnace and air conditioner. There price was reasonable compared to others we contacted. They were able to quickly assess whether we could repair our old one, or needed to replace the 12 year old contractor grade unit we had. They were able to schedule the install very quickly. I have mixed reviews about the service and product installed. The initial install was poor to say the least. I would have rated them much higher, however the initial instalation fell way short of my expectations. We had to call them back at least 3 times to correct issues. The 4th time they came back was because my Gas bill Increased substantially, even through we bought an extremely energy efficient unit. Barlow then sent the "experts" and head manager out after we filed a report with Lennox directly. They have worked inordinately hard to correct the issues we had. Their expert team came out and did a phenomenal job. They completed changed the duct work, which was not corrected during initial installation. and basically reinstalled the same unit. So far, everything is working good. Won't know for another month or so if our gas bill did go down as a result of the changes they made. If not, we'll be dealing with them and Lennox again. In part, maybe it was the unit. Barlow doesn't think so though. They performed the work for the price they quoted, but can't rate them very high for the initial install. Again, the followup seems to finally have corrected the issue. I understand they also changed management between install and followup, so maybe that was the problem. I have used them since for service and would recommend them, but with the caveat of ensuring they use a qualified, experienced, and certified crew to do the work properly the first time. Their final followup team and management corrected issues we had, and I expect we will see our gas bill go down this year. If not, I won't hesitate to call them again. They seem to be a very good team to work wtih.
